Chapter 3: City of Arranaire

"Ah, good morning, Miss June. How are you today? You look so beautiful as always. I see that you are with your son. Hello Kyle! Have you come to greet your future 'father' hard at work? " The guardsman greets us when we are arriving in front of the city gate. He is smiling from ear to ear as he sees my mother from far away.

"Good morning, Mr. Guardsman. I am doing fine. I just going out on a date with my son today to buy some groceries" My mother replied innocently while ignoring the guardsman is somewhat hitting on her. "Oh, a date? What a lucky boy to have a date with his beautiful mother. Maybe I will get a chance as well, eh Miss June?" His flirting continues and my mother just keeps smiling while does not reply to his advances.

Ah, I am tired of someone who did not understand if their approach is not working or the other party is not interested. "My mother is not interested in anybody right now, Mr. Guardsman. She is busy raising me so maybe in 20 to 30 years, you might have a chance. But I do not think you are his type though. A type that does not know when to stop flirting or notice that a woman felt harassed by their advances and way of talking." My reply stunned him as I have not replied to anything from then but hearing the word 'father' came from his mouth, I felt a little bit angry. My mother's face blushed and she covers her face as she felt a bit embarrassed and relieved.

"Eh, w-what are y-you talking about? I-i just casually having a c-conversation with your mom and I am TOTALLY not flirting with her." Flustered and annoyed by me, the cat got his tongue and he just opens the gate and silently resume his job. "What are you doing, Kyle? It's so rude to say that to your elders." My mother nags me as she holds my hands and quickly walks into the city. "I just feel very annoyed hearing his flirtations. If he got the signal that the woman is not interested, he either changes his way or stops. I just hate idiots like that-" my mother's knuckle hit my head as I am trying to explain but then she pats me and whispers into my ear. "Thank you."

...

After getting the grocery and asking them to send them to our farm. I went to the library to look for the Elven language book with my mother. I walk into the library and meet with the front desk librarian. "How may I help you today?" the librarian ask me as she fixes her glasses. "I want to borrow an Elven language book and want to search for some magic books too." The librarian snickers as she heard my request. "What do you want to do with magic books, little boy? and also an Elven language book? Are you interesting in elves and their language?"

I sigh as I know, it must be a hilarious sight for a 12 years old boy to borrow an Elven book in addition to magic books but I just keep my innocent face and persuade the librarian to make the conversation quick. "I just interested in Elven language and culture because of this city: Arranaire. The words etched on the stoned walls; I want to know more about them. For magic books, I want to become the greatest magician someday in the future!" The librarian girl heard my little boy's curiosity and ambition. She nods at me while giggles. "Sure, it's nice to see such a young boy interested in magic and other language in this day and age. Most of the boys are more interested in swords and war games as you can see outside. Wait a minute, I will find the books that you are looking for."

The librarian goes to the back and uses her magic to find the books that I requested. Some of the books on the shelves at the back flying back and forth, some goes to her and she looks the the cover and the content inside to check. I turned around and see my mother standing in front of an alchemy shelf.

"Do you have experience in alchemy, mom?" I surprise her on her back, watching her reading the beginner alchemy book that she opened several minutes ago. "I do not have any experience but I am very interested in alchemy. The chemical reaction, what kind of potion that you can get by mixing ingredients and diseases that you can cure with alchemy." Her eyes look very melancholy as she talks to me. "And we also have unused alchemy station too in the farm. I do not know whether it still works or not. It was mine, a gift from your late father." Oh yeah, the alchemy station, I didn't know it was mother's. I always presumed it was father's because the station is covered by cloth and it is very dusty as if it has been years since it's been used.

"Why not try alchemy again? I want to learn some magic too so we could learn together in the farm after work?" I suggested for mother to learn alchemy again as I know she wanted to but something is holding her back. "Maybe someday later. If you want to learn alchemy, I think this book is good for beginner."

"Oh really? Then I will borrow this book then. My mother's recommendation." I laugh.

The librarian come back to her desk and call me. "I do not find any beginner level book for Elven Language but I found this master level book for it. I do not recommend but if you just want to try or look at the book, I will let you borrow it regardless. There's no one here in this city want to borrow it so here you go."

She puts the language book on the left side and several books come flying from her back to the front.

"Here are some beginner level magic books, they are very thick and comprised of all of the fundamentals." Nice, it will be great start to learn the basics on this world's magic. I try to take one of the books but stopped by the librarian.

"Now, before you bring home these books. I will tell you that borrowing books has a time limit. These books can only be borrowed for a week and you need to returned these by next week at this time too. Do you understand? If you do not return them on the day, you need to pay 5 silver coins for each book for each missing day."

A week huh? I think I can do that.

"Sure, but what are these books?"

"Herm, Beginner in Conjuration, How to get started in Elemental Magic and Enchanting: The Basics."

My mother looks at the books behind me and read the titles. Her boobs are on my head and pushing me down. "Mother! Get them off me!" I felt embarrassed in front of the librarian and she laughs.

"Well, my Kyle can finish these books in one day so we don't have to worry about paying 5 silver coins. But we must walk into this city again next week?"

Erm, I must go back and forth into the city each week. It would be a hassle as I must manage the farm and mastering my skills at the same time. I think that it would be much better if I can borrow as many books as I can at a time instead.

"Oh, you live outside of the city? We also provide books delivery as well if you are a frequent borrower of this library but you need to compensate the travel cost which is 10 coppers."

10 coppers are cheap enough and I do not need to worry about traveling in and out of the city. "Sure, I have 10 coppers."

After putting the books in my bag, I walk out the library and go home with my mother.

After two days, I have mastered all the books but it did not level up to the maximum. My conjuration, enchanting and my elemental magic are all at 20. For my core class skills, I already mastered all of them into level 100 which is the max level for each skill. I tried to level them beyond 100 but I failed. Core class skills are the hardest to master as I get started when I was 7. It took me 4 years as I do not have any master or books to guide me. My ultimate skill, Fallen Star, does not need to level up but it does require skill to execute. As for my farming skill, it gradually levelled up as I helped my mother out on our farm, it took me only 2 days to master farming. I do not know how I got my Stealth to 100 though. I did tip toed out from the house at night to practice my Templar skills on the monsters outside. Is it the reason for my Stealth? "If that is the case, I have become a ninja just because I silently go out without mother knowing."

The weird thing for me is the elemental magic, the skill should be divided into each category of each element like fire or frost but in my stats, it is being shown as one skill: Elemental Magic. Is it because of my class, I wonder?

"Yeah, it is your class perk as a Templar that group up various different yet similar skills under one name. Pretty cool and easy don't you think?" I got spooked by the sudden voice behind me. I was alone in my room and it was midnight. Nobody should have been with me and my mother already asleep. I look behind and saw a woman in similar fashion that I once met almost 10 years ago.

"Eternity? How did you get here?" The angel who sent me down to this world, is here standing behind me. Like before, I still cannot see her face but I can notice that she is somewhat smiling seeing me like this.

"How are you Shinichi? or should I say, Kyle?"

"Both is okay as both of the names are mine. What are you doing here? Are there any problems or bad news?"

The angel pokes my cheek and silently whisper to me, "No, I came here because I cannot miss you in your adolescent state." The angel laughs then she lifted me up like a small child. "Wow you really look like a kid. You face is the same as your previous world but your name in this world is different, isn't it, Shinichi?"

"Yeah, I was shocked when I first saw my face. It is so similar back when I was a child."

The angel put me down and she sit down beside me.

"So, tell me, what is your plan right now?" The angel asks.

"My plan is to master as much knowledge as I can while making money for me and my mother to live."

The angel listens attentively and suggest something truly radical, "What if you conjure up some monsters to help you farming?"

"I did think about making an autonomous system to help the farm but using monsters? Didn't I need to feed the monsters as well if I conjure them?"

"Hermm, then conjure some elemental magic constructs as magic constructs feed onto conjurer's magic pool."

Hearing Eternity's answer, I think I need to focus on leveling my conjuration and becoming a master conjurer.

"Thank you, Eternity." I thanked the angel who is facing me even though I still cannot see her face.

"You are welcome. Then I will get going. It is nice to see you in this little form." She giggles as she is poking fun at my child phase.

"Well, it only lasts for 5 years then I am becoming a teen."

"Aww, then I will visit you frequently to enjoy this phase then."

The angel disappears as the moonlight shines through my window.
