Austin closed the group chat and logged into Infinite Fantasy Online for the very first time. Green luminescent writing appeared before his eyes.
The world of Managaea is the birthplace and home to many different races. Some familiar, others not. Please read through the descriptions carefully and choose the right one for you. Note that difference of gender has no effect on ability scores.
Human
As an advanced race that dwells under the protection of Lilith the goddess and overseer of the region of Kristannia, they are the most progressive race in Managaea and thus have access to additional starting classes, but abilities are average.
Austin never did like playing humans in MMOs, always choosing to go with the more exotic choices.
Demihuman: Demi-Cat
Though Demi-Cats are a sub-race of Demihumans, they tend to spend most of their time in the region of Kristannia, preferring the company of humans over their brothers and sisters from the rest of the Demihumans. The Cat people live a life of curiosity and adventure, seeking out sensual experiences. They often dive into dungeons with little thought, throwing caution to the wind. Their abilities favour speed.

Name: Genki
The word Genki came from Japanese, which Austin had studied back when he was in school, the word had several different meanings, but he mainly chose it for the meaning ‘original spirit’, firmly believing no matter what body he was in, his true self was and always will be there. Though to everybody else, it just meant healthy.

He chose to start in Kristannia on his brother’s advice, telling him if he did so with the race he chose, he would start with an exclusive item. It was a level 1 item, that’s usefulness lasted until level 20. It apparently had DEF: 2, DEX+1 and CHR+1.
Humans had built her up brick by brick, and stone by stone, and now Elizabeth is the largest city in all of Ergastula, she lies in the centre of the nation Kristannia. The original two started their journey here and now their stories are etched in time, and their skills are still passed down- even today.
The hero Dragonheart, whom it is said slayed the great black dragon Hyrrendal single handed, passed down his way of the Dragoon. The hero Silverdagger, whom infiltrated the labyrinth of Gru’Da’Url, assassinating the Death Mage freeing the world from darkness, passed down her way of the Shadow Dancer.
The sun has set for them, but it rises for you. Young humans and Demi-Cats venture into the wilds, fighting back the Beastmen and monsters, finding their fortune and keeping the nation safe.
August, the Queen of Kristannia, calls on you, Genki, to join the ranks of her armies and thwart her enemies.
Fortune favours the bold, and the opportunity to carve your name in history begins…
Now
The VR screen went completely white, calm melodic medieval music played in the background, and the world slowly revealed itself as a white blur, he blinked it away to reveal his character…
It was clad in simple linen accented by leather armguards and kneepads, by its side hung a wooden wand with a carved circle at the end of it. The ground beneath his leather boots was polished concrete covering the enclosed square, the edges of the square ran upwards into numerous sharped edged arches and flying buttresses, grey and red curtains with various coats of arms draped down from the balconies.
An armoured knight stood on a stadium, he was equipped with platemail and had an emblem of a dumbbell within a shield pictured on his oversized shoulder guard, “Welcome Recruit to Elizabeth, capital of Kristannia, her majesty expects great things from you!”
Austin looked around the empty area, before pointing to his avatar, “Me?”
Another more ornately clad knight walked through the archway at the back of the stadium, he had a lance slaying a dragon on his shoulder piece, “Oh Gabaltar, easy on the recruit, it looks like she barely exited the womb.”
“Prince Zion!” Gabaltar knelt before the Prince, bringing his arm across his chest in a show of respect.
“No need to kneel for me Gabaltar, you’re like my big brother, well, a big brother that bothered to teach me the way of the Dragoon.” Prince Zion rubbed his brow, before glancing over to Austin, addressing his avatar as if it already asked a question, “Oh no, you are not ready to even think about being a Dragoon, no recruit, you’re going to have to start with the basics, and Gabaltar here will show you everything you need to get started.”
Gabaltar stood and cleared his throat, “Well, I am busy with the Tournament of Arms, but I do have a mission even a recruit could complete, there’s been talk of Beastmen pushing into the Fleugal Plains, go and see if there is any truth to this and bring back some evidence if there is. Wait not so fast, here take this Kristannia Bracelet, all citizen born recruits get one, and you’re no exception, it could mean the difference between life and death out there. Alright then, good luck! Make her Majesty proud!”
The cutscene ended and Austin found himself outside the gates to the inner castle, Charles Keep, it said on his digital map. He stared around in wonder, rendered speechless by the sheer beauty of the city palace. Several beautiful towers stretched into the blue sky as if trying to grasp the clouds. Temples with different artistic styles spread around the outskirts of the magnificent building, but all exemplified the pious devotion of their brilliant coders, reflecting the glory of the gods for whom they were designed after.
Dark cobbled streets and paths snaked out of sight between the tightly packed buildings. Austin stopped a player character who was walking by—a short statured humanoid creature with a long snout and fluffy little ears.
“Do you know the way to the Adventurer’s guild?
“Eh? Figure it out yourself,” the player said as he shuffled off. “Huh! Keep that attitude up and you’ll be a dying breed!” He shot back. The player glanced back and growled before walking off again.
“Excuse me,” an NPC street pedlar said from behind his stall. Austin gave him a puzzled look, before shuffling over and leaning against the stall. He felt the wooden beams, but of course, there was only a slight haptic feedback telling him he had touched something and didn’t reflect the truth of the material.
“Excuse me,” the street pedlar repeated. “If you’re looking for the Adventurer’s guild, it’s down that street and then to the left,” His voice was old, but sweet.
“Thanks, old-timer.” The indicated street was lined with wooden houses that were designed to look old and impoverish and contrasted poorly with the stone ones that lined the way to the centre of the city. He turned and walked down the main street, only glancing back once to stare at the street pedlar and the other NPCs, before continuing on.
The plaza was filled with players. In the centre was a round building where players shouted over the counters at NPCs dressed in aristocratic clothing, tunics, and collared shirts with frilled sleeves. A human adventurer went to the counter. He was wearing a long black robe and a tall pointy hat. “Twelve-hundred XP, twenty Aurem, and one day for the hexapod hunter quest.”
“Thank you, your bid has been placed. Next please,” replied the vendor.
A human warrior approached another counter. “Hi, please record my bid for the slaying of the tribe of evil lizard creatures as five hundred XP and fifteen GP. Thank you.”
“No problems. Your bid has been recorded. We will announce the winning bid very soon.”
A spokesperson appeared from the second floor onto the balcony, he cleared his throat and began with, “Can I have your attention please? The bidding has closed for the ‘Hunting Quest: Mantis-Carapace’. The winning bid was twelve-hundred XP, twenty GP, and one day. That goes to the group known as ‘1337’. Congratulations. Of course, as with all quests, you will not be rewarded unless you complete the quest. If your entire party is downed or you exceed your time limit, you will lose access to the quest and it will return to the pool of available quests for everybody else. Additionally, if you time-out, you and your entire party will be taxed 1 GP each. Thank you for your time. The next bid ends in five minutes.”
“Woah Genki?! I see you adjusted your settings, I mean, the gods of creation have gifted you with some fine assets.” a giant hairy man with the head of a bear called out. He wore plain clothes, and a sheathed sword hung from his belt.
Genki looked down at her well-endowed chest, before activating a blush, “Haha, thanks. Nice race choice, Holder.” Austin made his avatar smile.
Beside the bear-man, there was a Demi-Red-Panda in plain clothes, a dagger by his side, then there was a Demi-Rabbit with big floppy white ears, tossing a dagger in her hand while smoothing down her basic clothing. Lastly, a Demi-Corgi also carrying a wand, though it was almost indistinguishable from a stick, he wagged his tail and did a pirouette. “Oh-my-goddess Jaro, your corgi is corgeous!”.
“Lollies, I know right! I’m going to become to most powerful and feared… corgi, hahaha!” He looked around a few times before continuing, “Would help if we had a power-leveller though, when’s your bro gett’in ‘ere?!”
“So, my brother is actually pretty unreliable … there’s a chance he won’t even show up at all.”
“Let’s just get started then!” Jaro said, and the others agreed
