Chapter 23 - The Elf

Chapter 23 - The Elf

Seeing this scene, Captain Lagren's expression was a bit ugly.

She actually didn't like Anderson deep down.

As an old adventurer with many years of experience, Lagren could tell at a glance that Anderson was not as gentlemanly as he seemed on the surface.

She had been tolerating him before because talented mages were so rare, and the team would have a hard time recruiting another mage of equal level without Anderson.

But now Anderson had actually laid hands on an injured team member, which had crossed Lagren's bottom line. Lagren decided to teach him a lesson.

Lagren stepped forward and pushed Anderson away, staring into his eyes coldly and said, "Have you gone mad from smoking dazed incense? Can't you see Agatha is seriously injured? If you have anything to say, can't you wait until we get back?"

"Captain, calm down... Mr. Anderson was just impatient for a moment. He probably thought this spell could help the team, which is why he was in such a hurry," the cavalier Mia came out to smooth things over.

Although someone had given him an out, the other female members of the team were clearly still very dissatisfied with Anderson's performance just now.

Seeing the silent crowd, Anderson also realized his mistake. He knew he had to do something to salvage his image.

His downcast eyes were shrouded in gloom, but it was quickly concealed by Anderson.

He slapped himself hard on the face, then walked up to Agatha with an apologetic expression and sincerely said, "I'm very sorry, I didn't take your injuries into account. I sincerely apologize for this, and hope Miss Agatha can give me a chance to repent and reform."

For a girl from the slums, having a noble mage bow and apologize to her was an experience she'd never had before.

Agatha was at a loss, she waved her hands shyly, then said thank you to him.

The others looked at the two involved strangely.

Realizing what she had said, Agatha's face turned as red as a monkey's butt. She wished she could dig a castle with her toes.

The boss Lagren had not calmed down. She coldly warned Anderson, "No matter what your purpose is, I don't want there to be a next time. If you commit this offense again next time, I will kick you out of the team."

Anderson sincerely promised never to do it again, and offered to compensate Agatha with his share of the rewards from exploring the labyrinth this time.

After speaking, Anderson even smiled apologetically at Agatha.

With his dazzling white teeth, floating golden hair, and handsome features, he was undoubtedly a handsome man.

Ronald, who was on the side, quietly watched the drama unfold. He took note of everyone's expressions.

Captain Lagren's vigilance, thief Agatha's shyness, cavalier Mia's jealousy, and the contempt deep in Anderson's eyes.

Ronald wasn't sure about the others' psychology, but he would never mistake Anderson's inner thoughts, because his loved ones often looked at him that way in his past life.

It had to be said, when a good-looking person was willing to put in the effort to act, they could often fool many people.

With Anderson's damage control, the team atmosphere gradually eased.

Ronald, realizing there was no more drama to watch, silently left the scene.

After circling around, Ronald found the other person involved under a tree stump.

It was evident she was trying to give herself emergency treatment for her wounds, but she had ignored her own physical limits, so she passed out halfway through.

Ronald lifted her cloak to reveal she was an elf!

A gorgeous, exquisitely beautiful female elf!!

Her delicate melon seed face was as smooth as jade, and her snowy skin glowed with an alluring luster.

Her willowy eyebrows, straight nose, slightly flushed cheeks, and cherry-like lips...

The Creator must have favored this race greatly, granting them not only extraordinarily long lifespans, but also unparalleled beauty.

If she had been born in Ronald's previous world, he dared to say she would definitely have been the happiest woman in the world. Because regardless of age, males who were attracted to her would sell their cars and homes just to pursue and please her.

It was a bit of a pity there was no camera, otherwise a "graceful elf falls pitifully" video brought back would surely make countless people drool with envy.

Just as Ronald was lamenting the lack of a camera, the elf let out a moan and slowly awakened.

"Hi!"

Ronald thought his tone was very gentle, but he forgot about his current appearance.

A hood revealing only fangs and a tail was not a good look at all. So the first thing the silver-haired elf did after her eyes focused was summon a frosty transparent longsword, then slash down at Ronald!

The blade cut a white trail through the air. Clearly the elf was not holding back!

If it had been any other mage, they surely would have lost a limb or two from this strike.

But Ronald was not "ordinary".

With a stir of his spirit, a violent gust erupted right in front of him, knocking back the pointy-eared elf while also blowing Ronald over ten meters away.

The silver-haired elf steadied herself with the magic sword after the impact passed, then rose from her half-crouch to standing position.

Ronald watched as she pulled a cloak out of the void in front of her and wrapped it around herself, before raising the magic sword to point at him.

Looking at the elf radiating an icy cold aura, Ronald hesitated slightly.

Aside from having no reason to fight her, the elf's face was really too unfair. Even stern and frosty as ice, it still shone with a captivating brilliance that stirred the heart.

The commotion from their exchange quickly drew the Blazing Rose members over, the first to arrive on the scene being Lagren, who wielded dual swords and had a murderous look on her face.

Noticing the mage actually had companions, the silver-haired elf Hathaway Tenuvir's first instinct was to try and escape.

But after just two steps, Hathaway felt her vision go dark and her body go limp.

Thinking she had been drugged, Hathaway was about to take an antidote from her pouch, but her hand only got halfway before she softly collapsed kneeling to the ground.

The last memory lingering in Hathaway's mind was the humans slowly surrounding her.

When she awoke again, it was already evening.

The adventuring party had set up a temporary camp by a small lake.

Rosy dusk light shimmered on the surface of the lake, causing ripples of red to spread across the glittering water.

This picturesque scene was what greeted Hathaway when she opened her eyes.

The elf, who cherished beauty, temporarily forgot her circumstances and became immersed in the lovely view before her.

But soon Hathaway was pulled back to reality by the hateful humans.

"You're awake."

A pleasant voice rang by her ear, and Hathaway looked over warily to see a young female cleric standing there.

Despite the very loose robes, an alluring sexiness was exuded from her commanding figure.

The newcomer was none other than Carlotta, privately dubbed "Dairy Cow" by Ronald, the party's cleric who was responsible for caring for the injured.

After Hathaway had fainted, Carlotta was nominated by the party members to be the contact person.

Due to the existence of slaver groups, most elves deeply loathed humans. If anyone else had been sent to contact her, it likely would have only deepened the misunderstanding. But if it was a holy and kind priestess of the Goddess of Life Church, the elf would be much less hostile, since the benevolent reputation of the Goddess of Life Church was known among many races.

Sure enough, upon seeing the Goddess of Life emblem on the cleric's robes, much of the hostility faded from the elf's eyes. Carlotta took the opportunity to explain the whole situation.

After realizing she had made a mistake, Hathaway's entire face looked baked red. She mumbled incomprehensible Elvish while burrowing into the blanket.
