Chapter 21 - The Labyrinth

Chapter 21 - The Labyrinth

The eldest sister repeated what Ronald had said, and the whole team burst into laughter.

The female team member blushed slightly as she laughed, while the straightforward dwarf joined in slapping Ronald on the shoulder.

In contrast, the previously smug mage Anderson now had a sour look on his face.

Ronald noticed this and, combined with the man's previous mocking of the dwarf, it wasn't hard to deduce that the other party was probably once an elven courtier.

Ronald also guessed that the reason Anderson was making a sour face was probably because he recalled Ronald asking if elves were powerful, and the elf replying "you're the best," a memory that, together with Ronald's mention of the "black fire roasting kindling diagram," had too much dramatic irony that even Ronald couldn't help but laugh out loud.

...

After this interlude, the relationship between Ronald and the team members became much more harmonious. Even the young swordsman Tommy, who had previously been hostile to Ronald, came over to greet him.

However, although the relationship had become more harmonious, Ronald encountered a new problem - the team members became curious about his appearance hidden under his cloak.

No one knew who started it first, but in the end, all the female team members actually demanded that he take off his cloak and let them see his face!

Their reasons for persuading him were varied - some pretended to be upset that he didn't take them as teammates, while others claimed it was to "enhance team relationships." In short, no matter how gentle a woman's personality, when gathered in a group, they would make one feel vexed.

No matter how boldly the female team members tried to entice him, Ronald refused to budge.

He was very clear that revealing his appearance would only be detrimental and without benefit for himself.

Although he had escaped to the North, it did not mean he was safe now. The hidden mastermind who had plotted to seize his magic staff was obviously still eyeing him covetously.

The other party would not keep sending grunts to their death. After the undead knights transformed by magic last time, what would come next? Official-level professionals?

When his own strength was not enough to protect himself, to please the girls by exposing his whereabouts and appearance, that would be incredibly foolish.

There was a saying in his past life.

"The more beautiful the woman, the more she will deceive people."

Ronald had already suffered at the hands of beautiful women, and this time he would absolutely not make the same mistake again.

His firm refusal to cooperate made some team members feel very embarrassed, so the relationship that had just begun to harmonize reverted to how it was initially.

After the crowd dispersed, team leader Lagren came to Ronald's side again.

The heroic female warrior with the long braid stared at Ronald and curiously asked, "Why are you so concerned about revealing your appearance, is there a flaw on your face?"

Lagren spoke very tactfully. She guessed that Ronald would rather offend people than reveal his appearance, possibly because there was something like a slave brand on his face.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

Although they hadn't been together long, Ronald could feel that Lagren was not a bad person.

The personality she displayed could be described positively as having a strong sense of justice and being helpful, or negatively as being sanctimonious.

Having such a person as a teammate, while there was no need to worry about betrayal, one had to be prepared to frequently cause trouble.

Under normal circumstances, Ronald would absolutely not want to get close to Lagren, but the real reason that convinced Ronald to tacitly join the team was that this team seemed very familiar with the labyrinth.

Other than superficial information, Ronald knew nothing about the interior of the labyrinth.

Although the team looked somewhat motley, their strength was not weak. Ronald could completely tag along with them for a few dungeon runs, get familiar with the operating mechanisms of the labyrinth, and then explore on his own later.

After thinking for a moment, Ronald decided to reveal some information, which could both prevent those women from continuing to be curious about his appearance, and effectively ease the relationship between them, preventing them from deliberately creating trouble for him.

Although Ronald had no intention of getting too involved with these people, he also didn't want them to oppose him at every turn. If they could maintain a cooperative relationship while ignoring each other, that would be best.

"I've gotten into big trouble, and you're kind to help me, I can't drag you down, so for now this is the best way we can interact - I come and go without a sound." Ronald said in a plain tone, speaking the most cruel reality.

Hearing this, Lagren's vague guesses became clear.

Lagren guessed that Ronald was probably a runaway slave, which was why he was so wary of everyone...

The guess in her heart made Lagren even more sympathetic to the new member before her.

Noticing the overflowing compassion in Lagren's eyes, Ronald knew he had persuaded her.

After that, the team members did indeed stop clinging to the issue of Ronald's appearance.

The two sides tacitly entered the first level of the labyrinth.

After the silver vortex was a long underground corridor.

The adventuring team arrived at the entrance to the first level of the labyrinth, which was a colorful, shifting light curtain.

Passing through the distorted, continuously flowing light curtain, a magnified world appeared before their eyes.

Raindrops slid down the umbrella-shaped tree canopy, falling on a bird taking shelter from the rain. The splashing water made it reflexively flutter to try to shake off the water, but the next second, a giant snake covered in gold and silver markings suddenly emerged from below, biting the bird in one motion.

The unknown bird struggled violently, rolling down the tree canopy along with the giant python.

Looking at the two gigantic beasts wrestling together, Ronald quickly estimated their sizes in his mind, then turned to glance at Mia, the tallest female knight in the team, comparing back and forth. Ronald slowly opened his mouth wide.

Seeing Ronald's shocked appearance, Lagren opened her arms to introduce to him, "Welcome to the first level of the labyrinth, the world of gigantification."

"As you can see, everything here, animals and plants, has one trait - gigantification.

From small reptiles to large beasts, they are all exceptionally enlarged, like that giant python just now. On the outside it wouldn't be more than 1 meter long at most, but here it can grow to over 10 meters..."

"Over 10 meters... That's already the size of an official-level magical beast, right?" Ronald said in a low voice.

It seemed Lagren noticed Ronald's worry, and explained with a smile, "Don't be scared by their size. Most things on the first level are like this - as long as you hit a vital point, no matter how big, it's instant death."

After speaking, Tommy took out his skinning knife and walked toward the giant python.

Once Tommy had collected the sellable materials from the giant snake, the team set off again.

Since he was only 15 years old and his body was not fully developed yet, Ronald looked very petite. The adventuring team all mistakenly believed Ronald was a nimble thief, so Agatha was assigned to partner with Ronald.

Ronald did not explain this misunderstanding, because playing the role of a thief was not difficult for him.

With Light Body Technique + Feather Fall, Ronald could run even faster than a real thief.

On this basis, if he kept using Gale Blast, Ronald could even fly off the ground to show you!

Agatha clearly did not have much interest in taking care of a newcomer. She agreed to Lagren on the surface, but as soon as they left the team, she went ahead to scout the path by herself, completely disregarding whether Ronald could keep up or not.

After quickly casting two enhancement spells on himself, Ronald chased after Agatha in the direction she had left in.

When he found Agatha, she was bent over with her butt sticking out, crouching on a hilltop.

Noticing Ronald behind her pretending to breathe heavily, she pointed down the hill to Ronald, then made a shushing gesture.
