Chapter 35

In the way my bards bring me information about the group who are after goblins. They were a mercenary group called golden claw, they specialize in monster hunting and only had 30 members. The group contracted only for one month and the price they agreed upon was 3000 golds. I was shocked. 3000 golds just for one month. That means 100 gold for each member. Those guys had a reputation for being quite powerful.

My soldiers had hardened steel weapons. I had a damascus steel sword. Like every blacksmithing enthusiast I wanted to make damascus steel blade and I made only one for myself. My soldiers' arrowheads had armor piercing ability due to their shape and hardened steel material. So I didn’t worry much.

When we reached the south of the barons Herch’s lands we were looking at a battlefield. The golden claws butchering the goblins, cutting through them like they are nothing. Goblins numbered in 500 but that didn’t matter. Gezek was shouting and constantly shadow stepping but was not able to kill any of the superior fighters of golden claw.

I had no hesitation for double-crossing goblins but if they were defeated this early, by this mercenary team mercenaries would go after us later.

The mercenaries (or should I call them adventurers) were vastly superior although they outnumbered many times over, they easily dealt with goblins. They had a 7 mage team in the back. Those men and women firing fire, lightning, ice and various other projectiles. When projectiles connected killed at least 5 goblins at a time. But surprisingly enough the monster hunters didn’t notice me. Probably due to the fact that they were not used to fighting in actual battlefields. I was going to make a surprise attack from the back and first we were going to deal with fire power. The mage team.

So I ordered my team to ready their arrows. And we released the arrows. The 30 arrows got to the target only 50 meter away. Some of them were hits. When mages turned their backs they met with me and my ax carrying support. Before they were able to charge any of their projectiles we started hacking through them. Some of them had some sort of instant cast scrolls that made them instantly move but only 2 of them managed to use them. Others were dead. But the casters only moved 100 meters away, I had no intention of letting them go. They could easily butcher my army from range. The moment golden claw people lose their firepower superiority they become much more susceptible to goblin attacks. The guys in the field started to fall. I said to my archers Target battlefield. Goblin losses are not important, just kill as many of the wariors you can. And I said my ax fighters come after me. And spearman to protect the archers. I started running at intense speed toward casters with my magic support.

The casters try to hit me with their projectiles but again with magic jumps I easily dodge them. They were terrified. When I reached them the beautiful fire mage dropped her staff and said “I surrender” The male ice mage drew his sword hesitantly I said to him “I have no hostility against you, surrender and survive.” He took one step and a whistle heard from my blade. His head fell to dirt cut clean.

I took female mages stuff and the moment I took it I smiled. This thing was extremely easy to use. Shapes were drawn to it, you just needed to push some natural mana and it turned it to fire mana itself. When it charged up it fired fireballs. My men reached to her, they were looking at her with lust. Not a good fate awaited her. I said “Tie her for now, after the battle you can do whatever you like to her” her beautiful face filled with fear. She cried “Oh sir noble knight please don’t” I said to her “I am neither noble, nor a knight. I am just a servant of Altus the god of revenge, and you try to prevent his revenge. His wrath be upon you witch, your fate is sealed. ”My man shouted “praise Altus god of revenge.” They quickly tied her up and we started running towards the  spearmen.

The adventurers put themselves in two groups to deal with archers. Out of 23 warriors 5 were victims of my men’s arrows. The remaining 18 split up 9 to 9 one group trying to keep goblins in check and the other group trying to deal with constant arrow fire. The spear formation was a great challenge to them, they made impressive jumps, but met with the spearman's spear wall. They were desperate to break the spear wall but Frank was a good spearman and they taught them how to keep their formation well. While they were trying on spear wall archers constantly made potshots at them.

When my ax infantry appeared right behind them they were in shock. A tall blond elf in impressive metal armor with a cool sabre raised his hands. And said “Please stop, you are clearly humans. Why are you attacking us when we are fighting a goblin horde?” I said “Because they are a punishment from our god, Altus. You are trying to prevent divine punishment”
