Chapter 28

I was planning to buy some pack animals for carrying my iron ore. I wouldn't be allowed to sergeants of Marcus to know my mine. If Marcus knew there was an iron mine in his land he wouldn’t let other people use it, he would use it himself. So I planned to bring the ore later. But when you have a band of goblins ready why pay for pack animals. Just steal them from the first village of Herch. I needed to keep a good image in front of other people but I didn’t need that with goblins. We reached the village. Me and Gezek sneak into the village in the night. The few soldiers with their sergeant were drunk in their garrison. Me and Gezek got in the place with knives on hand and started stabbing half asleep drunk soldiers. They put not much of a challenge, Gezek and I looted their body’s for money and arms. Then I got to the garrisons stable. I stole one horse and two mules inside. Gezek said “I helped you, now you help me” I said “What do you want?” He said “Help us kill people'' about killing people, something you should know, you should never cross your own red lines. That makes you hate yourself. I can do a lot of terrible things. But killing unarmed children or their fathers trying to protect them is not one of them. I can kill armed children, the sick minded separatist from my previous life used children as soldiers and a 12 year old with an ak-47 is as deadly as a 32 year old with an ak-47. So you can’t hesitate. But I know what goblins are going to do to this village and I really wanted nothing to do with it. I said to Gezek “I already helped you with your biggest threat just do the rest yourself. He said “Ok human, I understand you, but you already killed them, they are already dead, with not helping us you are not going to help them, you just going to make me lose more of my goblins.” I just stopped. He was right. But that didn’t matter. I never cross any line which gives me sleepless nights.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Few hours later I was walking, leading my pack animals carrying ore. I walked near the Herch village that was burned. Smoke was right there. Gezek was right. Whatever I personally did or not, didn’t matter. I was responsible for that village's destruction. In my previous life I hated people who eat meat but found butchers disgusting. Or people enjoyed a safe environment but insulted soldiers and cops who provided that environment for them. I hated people who killed people but not directly dirty their hands. So they can think of themselves as superior to people who did the deed. But now I was like them. But unlike them I knew what I did. I was responsible for death and suffering in that village as much as goblins. But I walked away, like a person who enjoyed meat but would never even watch how animals got slaughtered.

While walking Gezek appeared in front of me he said “tisk tisk, human, you can’t take my iron and go away, I need that for weapons.” I said to him “I am going to provide you with weapons, much better then you can ever produce yourselfs but you will play by my rules. I have an enemy I want destroyed, you going to help me and I am going to help you.” Then we agreed on some battle plans. He was rather willing to cooperate. Because he knew if he didn’t he would be hunted down by all lords, with agreeing to my plans he would going to make himself only Herch’s problem. Because he was going to attack only Herch’s villages.

Next day at midday I reached my hideout. The best remedy of any sorrow was work. Let's start building.
