Lancel Village
[Villager] “SOLDIERS! THE SOLDIERS ARE COMING!!!”
Suddenly, in my peace filled morning, an alarm bell rang. The noise was extremely high-pitched, and was reserved solely for if the kingdom’s soldiers were to learn of the existence of this village. From the head of the table I heard father mutter some profanities before giving commands to everyone in the village.
[Father] “Hurry and hide the women, children, and elderly! Gather every man that is able bear arms! Hurry before the soldiers arrive!”
Suddenly I was picked up by mother and carried to a hidden cellar located near my bed. I was placed in, and mother went back and began helping others. This is how our system worked in the village: the woman and children would hide in the village chief’s house, while the sick and elderly would hide in the lieutenant’s house.
Realizing that the 10 x 10 meter room was getting crowded, I huddled in a corner with my friend. My friend’s name was Selena, and she turned two last month. She had short, soft blond hair, and despite the fact that she was two while my mentality was that of a much older person we were still inseparable as friends.
After about an hour we started to hear a large booming sound.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Creak!
Boom!
Smash!
A large variety of sounds were heard through the floorboards, until suddenly a large and helpless scream rang out. The voice did not belong to any of us in the cellar, nor did it sound like any of the men that were fighting… so whose was it? One scream led to two and two lead to three, and they just keep coming with no end.
I then felt Selena’s body trembling to the sounds of those hoarse screams, and even I found myself covering my ears and curling. Everyone in the cellar from woman to children were all wondering the same thing, ‘whose screams are those?’
[Soldier] “Tsk… not even those old devils would tell us the location of the demonic offspring”
The temperature of the room quickly became 20 degrees cooler. He said ‘old devils’… there’s no way… it’s not possible…
Huh?
I feel wetness on my cheeks, though I don’t remember how they got there. I go to face towards my mother when I notice she is shocked as well. She too had wet drops running down her face. Then my ears began to ring, softly at first but became louder as time passed. It was only then that I noticed how deathly silent the room had become.
Then, almost as if in sync with my thoughts a noise could be faintly heard.
Creak…creak…
The sound of wood scraping against wood was thundering at us from above. All the children looked up with expectant faces… they finally came back! The men must have succeeded! There was no way our best men would have failed!

However… that’s where we were wrong.
[Soldier] “Found you~”
If one were to look around at this precise moment they could see the faces of the children change from expecting to a sense of forbidding in only a split second.
[Child] “Momma… where’s Papa? Mamma… who’s that scary man? Momma? Momma?!”
The woman had frozen from shock, and tears could be seen flowing endlessly from her crimson eyes. It was then that everyone’s mind seemed to catch up… ‘The men have failed’.
CRASH! BASH!
Men wearing silver armor and holding silver swords broke down the wall separating us from them. Then began the slaughter. My mind could not keep up with everything, and just as a soldier was fixing to behead me, my mother swiftly picked up a few surviving children and fled the execution.
[Soldier] “Get her!” “Don’t let her get away!”
Voices could be heard as we made our escape. Mother then put the three of us down as she patted our heads with a sad smile.
[Mother] “Run! I will stay behind and hold them back! No matter what you see or hear do not look back, just run!”
Her face showed a multitude of things; desperation, anxiety, determination, heartbreak, and everything else. While wiping my tear stained face I began to run, run faster than ever before. The others and I kept at it for a while. Finally, when we could run no more, we collapsed at the trunk of a large oak tree. It was then that I noticed who the other children were.
To my left lay my flushed red friend Selena, who was comprised of our village’s small minority, humans. To my right lay a boy that just turned three a few days ago. If I remember correctly his name was Brian, and he was like me, a Blood Elf.
We all just lay there for a bit in order to catch our breath until Brian’s stomach erupts with hunger. He then seems to spot an apple growing off an apple tree a few steps away. He goes towards it when I spot a silver flash off to our right.
[Me] “NO!!! D---“
I don’t even get time to finish my warning before the arrow suddenly flies and impales itself into his stomach. Brian doubles over and coughs up blood before collapsing.
Terror fills both Selena and I, and we begin running despite our fatigue. We both knew in our hearts that there was no way to escape the danger we were now in. We both knew, yet for some reason, some unstoppable force kept propelling us forward. Perhaps it was our desire to live that pushed us on, or maybe it was just instinct.
“ROAR!!!!”
I pull Selena to a complete stop as we both look at the terrifying beast before us. We were two 2 year olds who just came up face to face with a tier 5 demonic bear; there were no words to describe how inferior we felt. It would probably be best described as two ants coming upon a human. Now we were faced with a difficult decision: face the demonic beast ahead, or face the hatred bearing soldiers behind. No matter how hard I thought I could only come up with one conclusion… there was no way out.
