Chapter 5 ◊ Real Combat

Heading into the forest, Eve found the entire journey amazing. The smell of the fresh dirt ground and the ambience sound with the striking visuals, this was even better than real life. No plastic trash or litter, the dirt is untouched without the disturbance of chemicals or machinery. "This reminds me of the forest my brother used to bring me to."

"Before it was purchased and then soon cut down for urban development. Although it was just a small forest, I really didn't like it when it was demolished." Eve spotted a boar up ahead alone nibbling on some sort of flower. Taking a look at it, she started to describe its qualities. "Seems like a normal boar. They have powerful snouts and charges. They are weak at turning or reaching targets from far away. I suppose I will just shoot it down."

Eve unlatched her bow, grabbing it from her back holding it with her left hand, she held the bowstring with her right hand. Grabbing an arrow from her quiver, she notched it onto the string. Pulling the string back, she aimed straight at the boar's head.

*Twang

The arrow released flew straight into the boar's hide.

The angered boar turned to face Eve. With a massive squeal along with a snort, it began to ready up its charge. "Let's not get in the boar's way." Seeing it was charging her. Eve turned to a nearby tree, jumping up, she grabbed a branch. Pulling herself onto it, the boar charged straight into the tree.

*Boom

"Woah!" Eve caught herself by hugging the tree branch. She looked down at the boar with surprise. "How powerful is it? That it shook the entire tree." Taking another look, she found that it self-destructed. Injuring itself, leaving the boar with only 143 health remaining. With the high ground and a great place to safely shoot the boar, Eve began to fire multiple arrows into the boar's hide.

"What those players said were true. Monsters usually drop items, experience, or coins. They say that each class has skills they can learn. I don't have a class yet, hm... Some said that there are multiple ways to earn skills. Purchase using mastery points that each class has, use a skill book, learn from a mentor, or create your own."

"Then theoretically can you have a skill about running? Jumping? Diving? What are the limitations of skills? I want to know this." Eve wanting to experiment decided to start on the skills that would be helpful. "One of the players said that by doing an action over and over again, it creates a skill. The system will then determine the properties of that skill."

"Let's try traversing this forest. Jumping from branch to branch. It seems quite do-able." In the shadows of the forest, a player was following Eve in hopes that she would give the quest to him. Just as he found her, he saw the incredible movements of this NPC. Wielding two daggers, this NPC angered over five boars that chased her with furious anger.

She dashed between each tree as if she was born from the forest. Jumping onto the tree bark with another quick step into a backflip, she landed straight onto the branch. The simple boars could only charge forward, wanting to take down the tree she stood on. Noticing it, she jumped down grabbing onto a vine, a massive web-trap that covered them all.

Using her momentum, she swung around the tree, wrapping the vine around the branch. The five boar's couldn't stop smashing into each other, dealing team damage. Seeing that the trap wouldn't hold any longer, Eve decisively cut the vine. The boars helpless only could fall on top of each other. Wish a dash Eve cut the five boars ending their remaining health points.

In just a short hour, Eve began to show extreme growth as compared to these newbie players who only played games.

The player at first followed Eve, but once they entered the forest, he began to have trouble traversing through it. Having to take multiple breaks, exhausted from running. Tripping over branches, and getting lost.

"Wow!" He gulped air, catching his breath, he looked over to this NPC. "Endless Worlds is the best game in the world." Seeing the NPC grab the drops from the boars, he nervously approached her.

Eve hearing a bush rustling quickly turned around firing off an arrow towards the sound.

"Huh?" Eve looked in confusion walking through the bush, she found her arrow along with the spear on the ground. "I killed a player?" Eve looked at the spear with complicated feelings.

If the player found out he dropped his spear, he would be surprised. It was said that dying to NPC's or monsters, you would only lose a level and experience points. Not equipment yet, he didn't know that this NPC was special because Dr. Baltor gave her the same experience as players living as an NPC.

Grabbing the spear, she placed it in her inventory. "I hope he doesn't know it was me who killed him." With a deadpanned face, Eve coldly ignored that she just killed another player. "I'll continue gaining skills and leveling up." Players in the game could move more than they could in real life. Have back pains? You have missing limbs? Well, that doesn't matter.

In Endless Worlds, you have the freedom to move however you want, unlike your real body. Eve also found that she was unusually and incredibly athletic, even more so. Being able to run and jump without having to deal with those body limitations and pain is awesome. Once people have found out the benefits of this technology, even the disabled started to play Endless Worlds.
