"Hey, did you hear about Endless World?" An excited schoolboy loudly exclaimed. With a large smile on his face. It was the thin, lanky kid.
"Of course! Who hasn't heard of it? My parents say that I should play it. Usually they don't allow me to play games at all. Yet, they encouraged me to play this game. I think it's because the NEWS showed that you can earn a living playing this game just like any job." The obtuse kid spoke with happiness.
Eve looked over to the geek corner. Which she dubbed as that is where the nerdy gamers played games all day whenever it was break during school. They would meet with this fatty who is a son of a rich family. The tall lanky nerd, the rich fatty, and the silent midget. Every day, their antics annoyed Eve, making her wrathfully name them in such a way.
Of course, she wouldn't speak her thoughts out loud after all. Eve planned on getting a normal computer degree to quickly join the workforce once she graduated. She dreamed of being a super rich, powerful lady. Owning millions and millions of dollars.
"Look at what I bought!" The thin, lanky kid lifted high as if the helmet was his child. Holding it with such reverence, making his friend laugh at his antics.
After the fatty finished laughing. "Hey, you don't need it."
"Why?" The thin, lanky kid held the helmet tightly to his chest.
"Because, I already purchased three Gaming Virtual Cabins. I was planning on giving one to you... but I suppose I can only give it away if you don't want." He showed a face of consideration.
"NO! I want it!" The thin, lanky kid let the helmet go. "Well, what am I to do with this? Sell it?" He knew that no one wanted to have a used helmet, he would immediately lose 50% of the money trying to resell. Along with the people thinking that used helmets are broken or scams, it probably won't sell for weeks. He looked around the room and saw the girl in the corner looking at them.
His friend noticing where he looked shook their head in shame. "Ahem!" Puffing out his chest, he patted it down as if he was wearing an expensive suit. Walking like a gentleman, he went to Eve. "Here my lady! I present a gift!" Before, he ran back to his friend, placing his arms over their neck with a huge grin.
Seeing the [Crystal Core] gaming helmet on her desk, Eve picked it up, looking at it. At the geek corner, those boys did a fist bump. The three of them then walked to her. "You should play Endless Worlds with us. It's fun! Let me introduce ourselves." The thin, lanky kid spoke happily.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
"My name is Liam." The thin, lanky kid pointed to himself.
"He is brother Owen." Pointing to the fatty.
"And this is Aiden." He patted the silent kid's head.
"Hi." Eve responded. Once she responded, the three of them jumped in joy. Unable to contain their excitement, "Make sure to add us as friends in Endless Worlds! My username will be Unbeatable King!" The fatty, Owen said before running off. The other two also followed.
Later that day, Eve returned to her apartment. She has no parents, as they passed away before she even got to know them. She has a brother who went M.I.A. during military services, so essentially she lives alone. Living alone in a large house felt too empty. She decided to sell it, living in an apartment, thinking of moving into the city to start her career.
Entering her room, she placed the helmet on her bed. Thinking of doing her summer homework, she started to work on it, playing a lofi radio mix in the background helping her study.
Hours passed, rubbing her eyes in exhaustion. She looked to her bed and noticed the helmet. She tiredly laid in her bed. But, started to think about those three kids. Unable to sleep, Eve thought to herself. "I'll just try the game. It won't hurt." Placing the Virtual Reality Gaming Helmet, she found the power button, turning it on.
Unknowingly, the helmet that the thin, lanky man bought was an extreme beta test helmet. From a suspicious person who seemed to run from a government laboratory. Wanting to tell the entire world that aliens existed, and they have started to control the human population. Yet, he was later captured and silenced, with the government unable to locate the missing experimental helmet.
With a powerful zap, Eve felt her entire soul being pulled into the Virtual Reality of Endless Worlds.
Her body in life was missing. The only thing left behind on that bed was a helmet broken shattered in half as a cube flew out, escaping to return to the Main Body.
Is this a gift or a curse? To be trapped in a Virtual Reality world for the rest of your life. Who knows?
Eyes that could perceive anything found the intruder entering into his domain. It was Dr. Baltor. Receiving the knowledge from the miniature cube that captured the events knew that this girl was not a spy. "I'm sorry for someone like you to be trapped forever in the Virtual World." Dr. Baltor was a very empathetic person who knew and understood what people felt, unlike those high CEO's or corporations.
Seeing the intruder, instead of erasing them off the face of Earth, he looked the other way. "This is the only time I will break my self-imposed rules." As the only ruler of the Virtual World, it can be very easy to be lost in the face of power. Capable of doing anything, he could have his own way. "I will not break my contract." He had a contract that he paid for dearly to the government around the world.
He was not allowed to interact with the people or destroy the world. In response, they would not try to destroy or have the technology for themselves. "The people aim for freedom. No matter how much you try to contain, they will find a way to struggle, a way to survive. To break through and be free. Don't think that anything will go your way."
He closed his eyes, thinking of how to strengthen the people of Earth.
