Chapter VI: A Fallen Spoon

“Sir, we have searched high and low for intruders. I assure you, it’s safe to sleep in your own chambers tonight,” said the captain.
The mayor gulped and said, “I hope you’re right. But please, stay close in case something else happens. The disappearance of my two guards and Rogers is all too coincidental…”
“I thought we just hung a man for Rogers’s death? How can he be related to the disappearance of two men when he’s dead?” asked the captain.
The mayor stuttered and said, “Well, maybe- You know what? Never mind. I’m just a tad flustered. This night’s events has seemed to have had its way with me. I’m going to retire now.”
“As you do,” said the captain, who then shut the mayor's bedroom door.
The mayor let out a deep sigh and began muttering under candlelight. He undressed, threw his clothes on top of his bed, and shifted through a closet for tomorrow's outfit. His evening was winding down as it usually did. However, there was one final action he had yet to take. And that was to count his money inside a wooden chest in the corner of the room.
Eddy whispered, “He’s walking over here! I’m ready to scoop dem insides up real nice like.”
“Shhhh, Eddy,” whispered Ralph.
Eddy shook in disagreement and said, “No one can hear a spoon. You just-”
*Click* *Creeeeeak* *Slam*
In a flash, a large man flew out of the treasure chest and pinned the mayor. The mayor struggled and tried to call out, yet no words were uttered. He was immediately gagged with his own socks and had a rusty spoon put to his throat.

Ralph sat on the mayor’s chest and said, “You knew that Mr. Fischerman wasn’t the culprit, didn’t you?!”
The mayor grumbled and shook his head from left to right.
“Lies! You’ve always lied, Mr. Mayor. You put a good, hardworking man to death for a crime he did not commit,” said Ralph as he shook the mayor by the neck.
Eddy grunted and said, “Uhg! What is the point of this? Just kill him already!”
Ralph yelled, “No! He must answer for his crimes, or we’ll be no better than him.”
“Pfff. I am far better than some coward who can’t even commit to his own kill,” said Eddy as he plunged himself up under and into the jugular of the mayor.
Ralph pulled at his hair and cried out, “Nooooo! I wasn’t done with him yet! Damn you, Eddy!”
Eddy wiggled his way past the tongue and into the brain when he said, “Bah, there will be more, chill out.”
*Slam*
The captain kicked in the door and shouted, “What are you doing?! Get away from the mayor, you fiend!”
Ralph briefly looked at the mayor’s convulsing body and then took off through a window. The captain pursued him, and before either of them knew it. They were at a standstill on top of a pointed rooftop.
Eddy reappeared in Ralph’s bloody hand and said, “So is this guy supposed to be tough, huh? Maybe, we can pull something out of this blue box to win?! Profile.”

Ralph looked over the edge, then back at Eddy, and cried, “Nothing will work now! My life is over…”
The captain pointed a sword at Ralph and said, “Put down the spoon and give yourself up! Do it now!”
Ralph looked at his spoon and said, “This is it for me, Eddy. I hope you rot in hell with me,” and he then nosedived off of the mansion.
Eddy flipped into the air with Ralph and screamed, “Damn you, Ralph! I showed you a good time, and this is how-”
*Bam* *Splat* *Tink* *Clang*
Ralph’s head cracked open on the bricks below within the courtyard. His brains splattered along the flowers and decor like a spilled soup. All of his appendages twisted and turned to absurd degrees. And before Eddy could even take in his companions' condition alongside him, a blue box bombarded his consciousness.
