Under the shade of an old oak tree in the schoolyard, Emily, Lucy, and Lily sat in a circle at their usual spot for non-cafeteria lunch. It was a rare occasion where all three friends had home-cooked meals, allowing them to step away from the bustling cafeteria with, in Emily’s opinion, unappetizing meals. The schoolyard noise formed a pleasant backdrop to this little nook of peace that the girls had carved out for themselves.
Ordinarily, their conversations were filled with stories, gossip and the everyday challenges that engrossed seven-year-olds. But today, the conversation took an unexpected turn. Her presence in this world, the memories of Daniel’s life, the confusion it elicited had been increasingly gnawing at her. Looking at her friends, she felt a a surge of trust exacerbated by the need to share this burden.
"You know," Emily started, hesitatingly, her voice lower than usual, "sometimes I feel like I remember things... things that don’t seem like they belong to me. Like they’re from someone else’s life. Like sometimes, I’m someone else" Her voice stammered as she vocalized her thoughts, realizing how perilously close she was to revealing Daniel’s secret.
Lucy tilted her head, intrigued. "What do you mean? Like déjà vu?"
"Sort of," Emily replied, picking at the grass, trying to appear nonchalant even as her heart pounded."But it’s clearer, more like actual memories. Things I shouldn’t know, but I do." Looking up, she met her friends' eyes. "Almost as if I was someone else."
Lily, always the thoughtful one, looked pensive. "That sounds a bit like past life memories. My grandma talks about that stuff sometimes—how souls get reborn and sometimes remember old lives."
Lucy giggled, brushing a lock of hair from her eyes. "That’s like something out of a movie. Past lives? Secret memories? Are you sure you’re not just dreaming this stuff up, Emily?"
Emily smiled, appreciating Lucy’s lighthearted skepticism. "Maybe," she conceded. "But it feels really real. Sometimes, I even think about complicated science stuff—like different worlds or how our minds work in ways we don't understand."
Lucy’s eyes widened. "Different worlds? Like in a sci-fi movie?
"Quantum rea…—I mean, different realities and many worlds," Emily elaborated, her tone suggesting a mix of seriousness and awe. "It's this idea that there many universes - endless universe.” Imagine, in another universe, you might be the president, or I might still be a... well, someone else.—even a boy" blushing slightly as her words trailed off. She paused, glancing at her friends' faces and wondering if they could grasp what she was trying to convey—was this too much for a 7-year-old?

Lily’s eyes sparkled with fascination while Lucy shook her head, her expression one of amused bewilderment. "Emily, this is so…cool!. How do you even know all this?"
"Well, I read a lot," Emily said, shrugging, her explanation half true. "Plus, I like thinking about these things. Our world is so big… you know?"
Lucy leaned in, her eyes wide with curiosity. "My mom says some people just know stuff. Like, maybe it’s a special power. Do you have a special power, Emily?"
Emily hesitated, then nodded slowly. "Maybe. Or maybe it’s just my imagination. But I like thinking there’s more out there to see and learn."
Lily thought for a moment. "My dad says science and magic are kinda like the same thing. Maybe your memories are helping you understand stuff better."
Emily smiled at Lily’s words. "That’s a nice way to think about it. Sometimes, I wonder if everything’s connected."
Lucy’s playful side came out as she grinned. "Well, whether it’s science, magic, or something else, I think it’s awesome. You’re like a mystery we’re trying to solve."
The conversation drifted to lighter topics, but the seeds of curiosity were planted. Emily felt relieved to have shared, even if it was just a hint of her deeper secret. And Lucy and Lily, in their own ways, accepted the mystery of their friend—a little oddity that made Emily more interesting.
As they gathered their lunchboxes, Emily felt a renewed sense of closeness with her friends. Daniel was nervous about sharing his secrets lest he be judged even though in his heart, he desperately wanted to share his deepest thoughts. Emily realized that while her friends might not fully understand her situation, their willingness to listen and entertain the possibilities was enough to make her feel supported.
Later, as Emily walked home, her mind wandered to the nature of her existence. Could quantum mechanics be the reason she was here in this body? Was she in this body? Had Daniel somehow willed herself into this universe? Was she Daniel, Emily or something else? The concept of many worlds and infinite possibilities seemed to offer a faint, tantalizing explanation.
"We don’t really know what consciousness is," she mused quietly to herself. "Maybe it's all connected somehow. Or maybe... maybe it was a higher power guiding me here."
Emily wasn't disturbed by these thoughts; rather, she found them oddly comforting. The mystery of her new life intertwined with new possibilities this universe presented made her feel part of something much larger.
