Chapter 10 - Helena

Kaya remember blundering through the small corridor then calling Place. She didn’t recall what she exactly said, but within that moment she felt like free falling, and then she fell onto soft cushions. It felt so good she almost forgot she was sweating like she ran a mile under the summer sun.

When she looked around she realized she was in some room. It was adorned with some rich looking furniture with a gold plated wall on top. To her right huge curtains were drawn on the windows, and through the faint gaps of it she caught rays of light sneaking out.

She was sleeping on a very soft bed at least thrice the size of the one she had in her apartment.

“Place?”

There was silence.

I think he’s gone…

“Hello lady Kaya!”

Kaya jumped. “What the-” she stopped herself. She was getting used to it. A lot.

The spirit was now standing beside her bed carrying a tray. On the tray was a basin of water and a cleanly folded robe.

“Do you require a bath as well?” he asked. “Your face says the encounter with Holy Mother wasn’t pretty.”

“No, it wasn’t.”

She splashed some water to her face, enjoyed the nice warmth, then scrubbed her face with the towel.

“What is this place?” she looked around.

“This is your mansion my lady. Feel free to look around.”

She didn’t want to look around. She tapped her arm until the stats screen appeared again.

So the Holy Mother was right. Her stats were reset.

She quickly opened up the stats of her worlds.

How the hell did the chaos rise so quickly? It was only 3500 before

She shivered as she remembered the zombie running rampage around the world.

But at least there was one good news. Her world count was reduced to 8. It was either because Holy Mother wished to go easy on her, or the chaos filled worlds destroyed themselves. Kaya clearly hoped it was the former.

“Good luck, my lady?” Place was starting at her.

Kaya hadn’t realized there was a little smile on her face. “It all depends.”

She walked to the curtains and swung them open. The bright morning light greeted her face, but when she squinted and opened them again she realized it wasn’t the morning light at all. In front of her was just a morning sky with light coming out from the far horizon. Not sunlight, but more like light at the end of a tunnel.

“Please don’t say this house is floating,” Kaya said.

“This isn’t even a proper house my lady,” Place said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. “All what you see here is an illusion born out of a concept. You can change this in any way you want.”

“What do you mean?” Kaya looked at the fireplace, then willed it to transform to an oven. As she watched the brick layout faded to black and grew smaller. The fire disappeared and hid behind a glass door and in the next moment the fire place was an oven.

“Wow.”

She heard the sound of a doorbell, but it was more like an alarm clock.

“What was that?”

Place kept the tray on a table nearby and wiped his hands. “I believe we have a guest.”

Oh, should be the assistance.

Kaya wondered how the new guest will be. She didn’t have good luck with friends in her previous life. She doubted the current one was any different. Place opened the bedroom door and floated out, and Kaya noticed a set of stairs going down. She brushed her hair and started walking, keeping slow steps.

As she crossed half the stairs she heard sounds of Place talking.

“This way my lady. I believe Lady Kaya is a bit shaken up after her meeting with Great Mother.”

“Ah that’s fine!” a cheery female voice came along. “She can be so boring.”

Kaya shivered. She didn’t want to be a part of whatever that called the scary woman boring.

When Kaya came downstairs she approached a large living room designed with antique furniture. It was similar to the room, but this time the furniture consisted of a large dining table, a very similar fireplace and a sofa.

Kaya took all of it at a glance, then turned to look at the newcomer. But before she could the door swung open, pushing Place away. A woman of Kaya’s age, more slim and beautiful, jumped into the room, her beaming face showing a perfect row of white teeth.

“Ah! Kaya!” she waved her hand like they were friends for a very long time. “How nice to see you.”

She skipped near Kaya, her short blond hair swinging with each move.

“Holy Mother told me a lot about you,” she held both her hands, and her crystal blue eyes bore into Kaya’s own. “She said you are a very naive goddess.”

She almost said it like a compliment.

“I…am I guess.”

“Oh wonderful! Here I was thinking you were a smart one. I hate smart ones. Always so big headed and annoying. You on the other hand look very dumb!”

Kaya stared at the girl. That wasn’t sarcasm. The girl was smiling, her eyes glistening, her hands gripping hers strong enough to give her blood pressure.

She isn’t a bully either.

Kaya had enough experiences with bullies to recognize them a mile away.

“W-who are you? Exactly?”

“Oh, allow me to introduce myself,” she stepped back, lifted the edges of her skirt then bowed. “Goddess Helena at your service. I will be your mentor for the next few days according to orders from High Mother.”

Kaya followed the same greeting, hers more awkward than Helena’s. “I-I’m grateful.”

She saw Place covering his grinning mouth with his hand. When he saw she was looking, he quickly looked away.

Little bastard! He is enjoying this.

“Now how do we start?” Helena beamed as she looked around. “Oh! I know. Let me show you how things happen in my place so you can get an idea.”

That was a very good idea, and it was what Kaya exactly needed. An example.

“That’s great,” Kaya felt like beaming for the first time since she was in the damn place. “How’s your Holy Points?”

“Oh I have plenty of them! And a plenty of Evil Points too! In fact, I have more evil points than holy ones.”

Kaya stared, dumbstruck. “What?”

“Holy Mother said she would banish me if I get another 25 Evil Points so my job is to make sure that doesn’t happen. Come on, I’ll show you how messed up my worlds are.”

She snapped fingers, and the view around Kaya started to fade.

For the first time she wondered if the Holy Mother was hoping she would learn something, or having a good laugh while she gets dragged onto a bigger disaster.
