Akira wakes up in a cage and looks around and sees his brother crouching down in the far corner trembling like crazy, the scent of fear coming from him in waves.
Akira asks him, “Why are you scared right now when earlier you were brave and wanted to fight and not retreat when we were ordered to?”
His brother says, “It's because we are all alone with mysterious humans without their pack to save them. Who knows what the scary humans would do to us right now?”
The hunters then go to a market and set up a stall to sell them. A group of people dressed up in fancy rich clothes comes by.
A 5-year-old boy suddenly says to the people around him, “I wanna pet doggy right now!”
The people look around but don't see any dogs for sale. They end up seeing Akira and his brother as wolf cubs were the closest thing to dogs that were there currently.
The hunters notice the rich people looking at their stall and tells the buyers, “Hello good sirs, are you interested in wolf pups? What we have here are wild wolf pups just captured yesterday so they need to be tamed, but since they're still young, they are easier to train than older adult wolves.”
The buyers nod and decide to buy the two wolf pups and head back. They exit the street and the boy and one other man enter the carriage, bringing the two wolf pups with them, everyone else gets on their horses and travels beside the carriage and goes back to a castle.
They arrive at the castle and are left in their cage which is brought to a fancy room set up with a cozy soft fluffy looking bed with a bunch of dog toys scattered about.
Akira and his brother were left alone for most of the time except when a servant came to bring them food. This servant was a maid. She was accompanied by a guard to protect her in case the wolf pups attacked her while she was trying to feed them.
Akira of course had no intentions of attacking the girl. He would just lay down and pretend to be sleeping, or he would sit and watch the girl as she opened the cage and put down a large chunk of meat for him and his brother to eat.
Akira's brother on the other hand would crouch down in a defensive position in the furthest corner away from the cage's opening, and growl at the maid. After his brother realized that the maid was just there to deliver food, he would just cautiously watch the girl when it was feeding time.
At first, the maid was afraid that the wolf pups would attack her if she went too close to them so she would be very cautious and quickly leave the meat on the floor close to the door and then leave real fast, afraid to stay long in the cage, but after a little bit, she grew used the pups and forgot that they were not yet trained so she stayed in the room for longer periods of time with every visit.
This went on for about a month until the maid decided that the wolf pups were used to seeing her now, and wanted to play with them. Of course, her plan didn't go the way she wanted it to go.
She opened the door and put down a large chunk of meat on the cage floor as usual, but instead of going back out like she normally did, she went further into the cage and went up to Akira first.
The guard warned her to be careful because the wolf pups were not yet "tamed".
Akira was surprised and wondered what this girl was doing. He closed his eyes and crouched down, afraid that she might hurt him, but instead of pain, he felt the girl's gentle touch of her hand rubbing the top of his head.
At first, he wanted to resist because he wasn't used to being petted by anyone since he used to be human, but it felt oddly nice and relaxing. He rubbed his head against the maid's hand and her eyes lit up.
The girl then went up to his brother who was in a defensive position as he noticed the girl get closer to him, and he started growling.
The maid made some gentle cooing noises and tried to tell the wolf pup that she wasn't any harm to the pup, but of course, he didn't understand her.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
As she bent down to try and pat the wolf pup on his head, he jumped up and scratched her, before running to another corner and turning to watch her in a defensive crouch again.
He cut her hand pretty badly.
The maid screamed in surprise and pain, and the guard quickly entered the cage and brought the injured maid outside, locked the door, and left the room.
Akira asked his brother, “Why did you injure the nice lady?”
His brother didn't answer his question. Instead asked him, “Why did you let that human touch you?
“I think it would be better for us to just stay still and do what the humans want us to do for now, as long as it isn't harmful for us.” Akira said simply, as if he expected his brother to know what he meant, forgetting that his brother didn't understand how humans behaved or acted and why they did what they did.
His brother said, “You don't know for sure if the maid is really harmless or not. It’s better to be on alert and ready to fight rather than be helpless in a dangerous situation.”
Akira refuted, “I get that, but you do realize that this maid is the one who brings us food every day, and if she really wanted to harm us, she could've done it when she came to feed us for the first time, or any time she came in to feed us.
Akira's brother snorted with distrust and said, “You never know, they might be trying to get us to let down our guard and catch us in unawareness and do something bad to us.
Akira silently agreed but didn't think that the maid would do that to them, but he didn't want to talk to his brother anymore. His brother was just too paranoid right now,
The next day, the maid didn't come in to give them food. It was a different maid. This maid didn't dare to enter the cage like the other girl after seeing what happened to her.
The new maid hastily threw in the large chunk of meat then quickly closed the door and ran out of the room with the guard closely watching the wolves in case they made a move to attack this other maid.
The same maid came to give them food in the same manner for about a week, then the maid who fed them before came back.
This time, she was more careful of Akira's brother and didn't go anywhere near him. She would put down the food and warily watch the two wolf pups at first.
Akira was worried about the kind maid and decided to go up to her and sniff her bandaged hand to see if she was alright.
The maid froze in fright, afraid that Akira would hurt her as his brother did, and the guard was ready to protect the maid from harm, but to both the maid and guard's surprise, they just saw him sniffing the girl's hand and then he rubbed his muzzle on it.
Akira could sense that she was still injured and decided to use the light element to cast a healing spell on her hand just to make sure it was all healed.
The air around her hand lit up with a faint white light and a soothing feeling fell on her hand where it was injured.
She looked at her hand in surprise as she noticed her cut was healed and was no longer there. Akira had healed the cut on her hand.
She looked at him in awe and smiled, rubbed his head some more, and thanked him. Although he didn't understand the language, he understood her meaning.
The guard relaxed his stance as he realized that Akira wasn't going to hurt the maid, but he remained on guard against Akira's brother.
After staying in the cage inside the fancy room for about a month, the maid goes to have a little talk with the prince
“Your highness,” the maid addressed the little prince, who nodded, giving her permission to speak.
“Would it be alright to let the wolf pups out of the cage? It seems to be getting a bit tight for the two of them to stay in.
The prince said “Where would they stay, if not in the cage?”
She said, “They could just roam around the room since it was originally set up for them anyway.”
The prince thought about it and agreed, so now Akira and his brother were allowed to roam around the room.
Akira's brother of course tried to escape through the window the moment the maid and guard disappeared from the room, but unfortunately, the room was on the third floor so it would be suicide if he were to jump out the window right now. His brother was very upset about this.
Akira didn't care about escaping as his brother did. He thought that it would be nice to just live in comfort without having to worry about having to survive in the forest with other dangers.
Akira explored his new surroundings with interest. He was now out of the cage which was growing quite cramped.
He and his brother had a small growth spurt over the course of the month. Thankfully they were let out before it got unbearable.
The floor of the cage was also hard and cold, but the room they were in was carpeted, so it was nice and soft. He looked around the room at all the expensive-looking things and wondered how much it all cost to set this room up. It was grander than anything he knew of in his last life.
Judging by the fancy decor and all the servants around, Akira guessed that they were taken in by some rich higher classed nobles of sorts.
