Chapter 3

Akira woke up the next day and decided to become stronger, strong enough that he won't be picked on by his siblings or pitied by anyone. To do that, Akira decided to train. Well, at least that's what he told himself but before he could do that, he had to be able to stand up on his own four paws and be able to walk. Akira winces as he remembers the last time he tried to walk and couldn't. And so that's just what he did.

He spent one week training himself to walk from one end of the den to the other without falling down once before he succeeded. After walking came running and jumping without faltering or tripping. Next came agility and mobility. He practiced weaving, tackling, and other ways he could think of that would help his flexibility and toughness. Of course, he did this all at night when his mother and siblings were sleeping. Everything was going pretty well for Akira when he trained, although one time his smallest sister woke up to see him in the middle of one of his training sessions. She was curious about what he was doing but didn't think much about it as she thought he was just playing by himself.

3 months after training, it was time for their father to take them out on their first trip outside of camp.

"Status!" Akira called out softly under his breath.

They also grew quite a lot over the 3 months, but now he was stronger than them. No more bullying me now! HA! He thought happily as he saw his stats were higher than his siblings.

Akira and the rest of his siblings gathered at the entrance of their camp and waited for their father to appear. After a few minutes of waiting, Axel came out of his den and went up to the pups.

"All ready?" He said looking at them, "Alright then, let's go." And he takes off walking down the newly made trail through the forest.

Akira and the rest of his siblings do their best to keep up with their father as he travels over fallen logs and rocks, around bushes, and underneath low tree branches, winding through the forest leaving Akira's siblings far behind. To everyone's amazement, Akira was the only one who was able to somewhat keep up although he was breathing hard and was still a meter behind the father. Little did anyone know, Akira not only trained himself inside the den but also went outside the camp at night while everyone was asleep. He'd quietly crawl out of his den, careful to not wake anyone up, and sneak outside and go for a little walk or sprint in the woods around the camp. Thanks to this, he was able to keep pace with his father a little better.

Axel paused for a moment to let the others catch their breath for a second then continued until they reached a clearing in the forest. Axel looked at Akira without any emotion in his eyes to betray his thoughts, only a tiny glint that showed his surprise but that was gone in a flash leaving Akira unsure if it was just his imagination. Five minutes later, the rest of his siblings arrived one by one and Axel stood up and opened his mouth.

"Alright everyone, since you're all here now, I'm sure you guys are wondering why I brought you here. Well, it's to do some magic training. Everyone is older now and it's about time you guys start learning magic. Your mother told you guys about the elements already, right?"

Everyone nods and Akira thinks back to what their mother told them a few days ago. To sum it up, there were 4 main elements: fire, water, earth, and wind. There were also 3 rare elements: lighting, ice, and metal. As you might've guessed, the 3 rare elements are derived from the main elements. The only difference between the main and rare elements is the amount of control one has over each element. For example, in water vs. ice. The water user can only use water spells while the ice user can use both ice and water spells and mix the two up however they please. The same goes for fire vs. lighting, earth vs metal. Another thing to note is that if one has ice, metal, or lighting elements they also have the fire, water, or earth elements as well. If one trains hard enough with fire, water, and earth, one can eventually be able to sense ice, lightning, and metal elements. Wind doesn't have an extra element that derives from it because the wind element is a special element with very few restrictions as you can use it as a support, defense, or offense method.

Now, there were also 4 super rare special elements, light, dark, space, and time magic. These elements were much rarer. Only about one out of 100,000 people had them. Light and dark elements were more commonly seen than space and time elemental users though still not that usual. Light and dark energy aren't considered as good or evil and they actually coexist with each other quite nicely.

"Today everyone shall learn how to sense the elements that you can use for magic spells. Everyone close your eyes and take a deep breath and clear your thoughts. Get into a comfortable position, relax, and try to sense the mana in the air." Axel instructs the wolf pups in front of him.

Akira lays down, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath as instructed by his father. After staying still for a moment and not seeing anything different, Akira opens his eyes wondering if something was supposed to happen or if he did something wrong. When he opened his eyes, his surroundings were lit up with many different colors. These glowing lights were the mana particles in the air that he could sense. Akira saw red, pale yellow, light blue, dark blue, green, white, silver, yellow and dark gray particles floating around him. There were no purple or light gray particles in the air, so he didn't have the space and time element much to his disappointment but he did have all the other elements.

As Akira was gazing around looking at the elements in the air, his real body was still laying down in the same position with a faint golden hue surrounding him. His father, Axel was watching over the pups as they each drifted off into the mana world, noticed this golden hue around Akira and his eyes lit up with surprise once more as Akira was the only one out of the five pups there that had managed to sense mana on the first day.

Axel woke up everyone and said, "It's time to head back to camp now. Keep on practicing this mana-sensing technique until you can successfully sense the mana elements or elements in the air. The faster you can sense the elements, the faster you can release any spells you have for attack and defense. Later on, after you can sense your element, you will be trained by one of the pack members with the same element as you. that pack member will be your master. Be respectful to them and listen to what they have to teach you for they know best. Now let's go back." Axel then stands up and starts heading back to camp with Akira close behind him. They pause for a moment halfway through to wait for Akira's siblings to catch up. Akira takes this break as a chance to ask his question,

"How many elements does one normally have?" Akira asks.

Normally just one element, but some have two. It's very rare for one to have three or more. It's also dangerous because those who have there or more affinities tend to get hunted down by other groups because they are seen as a potential threat to them or they are kidnapped by other groups and are forced to do things against their will. Very few manage to live a free life if they have more than 2 elements.

Akira was expecting something like that to happen. The more powerful one is, the less freedom they have, and the more others want to either eliminate them or control them.

"So I noticed that you managed to sense mana on the first day. This is rare, what element or elements do you have an affinity with?" Axel asks Akira.

After listening to what his father said, Akira decided to hide the fact that he can use all of them except for space and time. "I have light and wind elements, I think."

Axel looked at Akira and said, "Hmm. That's nice, I'll get someone to teach you light magic and your mother can teach you wind magic. Since I have fire and shadow magic, I can't teach you those. You never cease to amaze me. I have high expectations of you. Just because you're the runt doesn't mean you should be weak. One day you can go off and find a mate and start your own pack, so train hard."

Akira was touched by his father's words and nodded his head. "I won't let you down father, I'll make a name for myself for sure!" his eyes shine with determination.
