Chapter Fourty: Growin' big

Chapter Fourty: Growin' big

The large mountain... Had I been anywhere near home, finding the large mountain would've been easy. There's only a single one near where we live, and the very base of it is barren, a few sparse trees dotted here and there.

This place is... not like that, no, not at all. The horizon is covered with mountains, and the rest is just trees, like a big rug covering everything. Very pretty, but there are almost too many mountains to pick one out as the "big" one. As I stand there, arms crossed wondering where we're even headed, I hear a door creak open behind us.

"Ta the right," the man mumbled, pointing at the mountain on the right, before pulling his face back inside. Oh. Right, thank you!

"Thank you, kind civilian!" Todd said in a faked deep hero-ish voice. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to sound heroic, but I couldn't really tell, since Todd is a bit of an oddity overall.

With our destination decided, we head over towards the mountain, keeping a close eye for spiders. I'm lucky I've never had a problem with spiders. Man, I wouldn't have been able to survive at home if I did, those things practically ran the farm themselves.

"-How big do you think you can get?" Todd asked after staring at me for a while. Right now, I'm kind of in my horse-sized form, since it would be hard to walk through these woods if I were any bigger. My brows furrow and I turn to look at him. I... hadn't thought about it before. Frankly, I don't see the use in growing really big. My stats will still be the same, so what's even the use?

...Then again, I can't help but get roped into that wonder he has about everything. Somehow, when he looks at me with those starry eyes, I just can't help but do whatever he asks. Come to think of it, Chuck was the exact kind of guy. He'd jammer on about some terrible thing in a game he'd played in and then he'd get all excited about some new game coming out and I couldn't help but get excited as well, even if I'd never play the game myself.

"Dude, like, just try it. Check how big you can get. If I remember right, you were just like, a foot tall back when you were tiny," Todd coaxed, getting just a bit too close. As it were, I was about a full head taller than him, but only because my insect-half was pretty large. Right. Okay. Sure.

A quick glance at the overbrush ensures that I will probably scratch my face on the branches up there. Hrm. Worth it. Probably.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Right, okay, uh, enough stalling-,?

-Brobdingnag!

And now, when my body grows, I just don't... stop it. As expected, my head quickly penetrates the trees above, but I can't feel any of them actually hurt me. For some reason, my defence really just ballooned out of proportion. Speaking of ballooning out of proportion, I am still growing. I'm sort of wondering if Todd and Mal will be okay down there, but I can't feel anything hitting up against my feetsies, so it should be okay.

Speaking of my feetsies, they are still rooted where I stood, which is uncomfortable since I am now a fair bit bigger than I was when I stood there. To remedy this, I quickly step out from where I stood, talking large, high steps in order to give my friends below some time to evade, and then place them down to stand in a more usual way.

After less time than expected, the growth stops, and I stand tall. It seems my human half grew in proportion to my body, unlike when I forced it not to. Hrm. My body is held up just above the trees, so its not like I've got a bunch of green tickling my groin. That's good, but... This is really quite useless. I can't even see down to where Todd and Mal are!

Oh well, time to terraform. With these many trees, another glade shouldn't matter, right? Yeah. Probably.

Thinking so, I lean down, bending my feetsies and hunching my back to get a closer look. Even at a closer look, the trees are very much in the way. So, as respectfully as I can, I quickly uproot a few trees that I think are around where Todd and Mel are supposed to be. The trees feel surprisingly light, especially so when considering that Todd had been as light as a cat when I had held him earlier.

...Doesn't rise to match size my ass, I can hold a tree in one hand, damn it! This doesn't-, oh, there they are.

Todd seems about as starry-eyed as ever, if not more so. For some damn reason, he decided to shade his eyes with one hand, which is... I'm not that big, geez! Mal, on the other hand, seems very frightened, staff raised at me and all. Wait, at me-?

"Duuuuuude, you're so big!!" Todd called from below, his voice very small, and I found myself almost unable to hear it at all. Less than the squeak of a mouse. Beside him, Mal mumbled something, But it was so low that I couldn't hear it at all.

...Fuck it, Gulliver time. I leaned down just a bit further, and picked them both up, one in each hand. From my perspective, they were each about six inches tall, while the trees were a foot or so. I could feel Mal tremble in my hand, but I decided to ignore it. To be fair, Todd seemed mostly just excited as all heck, looking down at the world as he happily kicked his feet.

"You're like, at least fifteen feet tall!" Todd said, and now that he's at the height of my head, I could actually hear him pretty well.

"H-, hardly, I'd say... Fifty-, no, no," Mal looks me up and down, his long ears bent back in an odd way, kind of like a shocked rabbit, "seventy feet, at the very least. Goodgoddessabovepleaseshowmercy." I couldn't really catch that last part, but his estimate felt just about right. Looking down felt... a bit scary, really. As fearless as I like to think I am, I've never actually been high enough to get a true grip on my feelings about heights.

Mrm. Kind of scary. If I fall... Hrrrr, better not think about it.

"-Should I walk to the mountain?" I ask my two captives, feeling a bit like an insect king-kong. For some reason, Mal is shaking his head like mad, his big poofy hat threatening to fall clean off. Todd, on the other hand, is nodding with much the same vigour. Hrm.

If I were to guess, I'd say Mal might be scared since he's pretty much powerless being held in this way. On the other hand, if I placed him somewhere he could have control over what he sees himself...

I put both Mal and Todd in my hair.
