Reborn as a Kryptonian
One in a million

One in a million

After their little talk, Verlin walked Chloe back to her home, which wasn't too far away. As soon as they arrived, Verlin left and went back home, even if Chloe asked him to come in.

Verlin arrived back at the mansion and headed straight to the lab. When he was flying here, he noticed that it was empty, signifying that it was completed. The lab was quite well done for a 2 day project. Although Verlin could nitpick some problems, given his eyesight, he could find problems with anything.

The lab had its basic instruments, microscope, test tunes, high-end computer , and some basic elements of the periodic table, etc . Before Verlin was going to experiment with the differences with the Polar bears. Now, he had lost interest after finding about enhanced humans. The research on the polar bears will have to be pushed back. Verlin had recorded Chloe's DNA in his head, and he was going to compare it with Rachel's.

What he needed to do was think of a way to get Rachel to expose her ability without her relating suspicion to Chloe. Before, he had thought that Rachel was just a relatively stronger human and didn't care too much cause her strength was no different to him than a regular human. But seeing that Chloe's ability is enough to even block his vision, he needed to put enhanced humans into consideration.

Verlin left the lab and went to the living room to wait for Rachel's arrival. He didn't have to wait long as Rachel entered the house after 10 minutes of waiting.

Rachel looked like she was in a good mood and said, "Well, if it isn't the lover boy himself. You know, given that you are supposed to be immortal, I didn't expect you to take an interest in an 18 year old girl."

"Lover boy? I don't know what you are thinking, but I'm not interested in Chloe in that type of light . If anything, I'm more intrigued by you. "

"Flattering, but I'll have to decline."

Verlin ignored what she said and replied,

" Rachel, tell me something, Are you human?"

Rachel looked surprised and said, "What kind of question is that?"

" I mean, you look human, but as you can see from me as an example, looks can be very deceiving."

Rachel was stunned for a second before she started laughing. After a couple of seconds, she said, " So, you think I'm an alien?"

"Not necessarily, but you are no regular human. Your body density is 5 times that of a human, and you are nearly 20 times as strong. At first glance, it would seem you are human. Even your DNA is similar, but there seems to be slight variations in your gene sequence that make your genes much more complex than humans, almost making you a completely different species."

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Verlin analyzed all this as he was looking at Rachel with microscopic vision. Rachel's DNA structure was closer to Chloe's than other humans, but the 2 of them still had their differences, not only because everyone DNA is different, also the structure of the DNA.

Rachel stopped laughing and stared at Verlin, saying, " Where did you get samples of my DNA? did you enter my room? And why the sudden interest now, yesterday you didn't seem to care too much, what changed your mind."

" First of all, I didn't go into your room. Secondly, yesterday, I didn't have your DNA, so I couldn't jump into conclusions, but now it's completely different. So, are you gonna tell me, or I'm I gonna have to find out myself."

" Are you threatening me? "

" I'm not, but I'm sure you wouldn't want me snooping around, just to find out."

Rachel stared at Verlin for a long time. There was a reason she didn't trust this alien. It was mainly his attitude towards humans. Although she wouldn't admit to it, Rachel was prideful and had a superiority complex over other humans. I mean, she was stronger, faster, smarter, and she had the ability to mind control others, it isn't a stretch to say if she really attempted she could plot to take over the whole West Federation, but her abilities were almost nothing compared with Verlins.

And yet he doesn't seem to consider humans inferior even though he was obviously a higher form of life, and this was a problem to her. If Verlin had looked down on humans, it would be fine. At least he would be showing his true nature, but it seemed he was hiding his intentions as he was being friendly and trying to get closer to them. The only time he showed disgust towards humans was when she asked him if he was attracted to them. That's why she has always been on edge no matter how deceiving his outward appearance is.

Rachel said, " First, you tell me what you really want. Do you deem me as a threat and want to eliminate me? "

Verlin was flabbergasted. He could see how she came to that conclusion, but damn.

" No, I'm just curious. I mean, among other humans, you and I share the most characteristics."

It seemed that Rachel wasn't buying what he was saying, as she stared at him, waiting for another answer.

Verlin sighed and said, " Look, if I had any ill intentions for humans, it would take 20....no, 10 minutes. It would take less than 10 minutes to erase humanity and everything they had built or accomplished from the surface of the planet without a trace. You wouldn't even have time to consider your options before it was over. So trust me when I say, I just want to get along while I'm here, and I am really just curious."

When Rachel heard Verlin, it didn't seem like he was threatening or bragging. It was like he was stating an undeniable fact. Rachel had realized they had severely underestimated him, and for the first time in her life, she felt fear.

Verlin could hear Rachel's heartbeat accelerate when he finished talking, but after a few dozen seconds, it returned to normal.

Rachel sighed and said, "Well, that's one way to let someone know. Resistance is futile."

Although Rachel was still a little shaken, she felt much better. Watching over Verlin this whole time was a huge pressure on her head. Now, if what Verlin said was correct, that would mean, no matter her efforts, if he decided to, everyone would die. Rachel couldn't help but laugh at herself. She had really found peace in hopelessness.

Rachel continued and said, " One last thing, is this how you really look like or is it just a cover-up of your actual appearance."

"Huh? This is my actual appearance."

"Not bad."

Verlin was a little shocked, Rachel seemed to have changed slightly, her muscles weren't as stiff, and her expression was more fluid. Before, she was more rigid.

"Anyway, are you willing to tell me now?"

"Sure, I'm an Enhanced human. Just like it sounds like I'm a human with enhanced capabilities, faster, stronger smarter."

"Anything else?"

"I guess we heal faster, stronger metabolism, stronger senses, longer lifespan."

"I see, so how many of them are currently known."

"Enhanced humans a relatively rare, like a 1in 1 million chance. Although we have only found 10 Enhanced humans in the country , there is an estimated total of 200 enhanced humans in the West Federation."

Verlin nodded his head. The population of New Earth is a lot smaller than that of old earth, measuring only about 1 billion people. If the probability of an enhanced human existence is 1 in a million, that would mean there are only an estimated 1000 enhanced humans on the planet.

Although Verlin couldn't make Rachel spit out her ability, he still got information he wouldn't be able to find on the internet.
