Moving out

As verlin and Darwin wrapped up the simulation trials, It was already 9 a.m. Felix came outside to collect the data from Darwin and returned back into the base. Verlin followed him back into his office and sat down on a chair. Felix looked at Verlin and said, " What is it this time?"

" I can't stay here any longer, I would like a private place to stay."

Felix sighed and said, "You know, we can't leave you by yourself."

"Look, I'm not trying to threaten you or anything, but I could leave anytime I wanted, and you wouldn't be able to stop me, I just want a proper place to stay to do more research."

Felix closed his eyes to think, after a minute of silence, he said, "Although we can't let you go on your own. If we can have someone follow you to keep tabs on you, then that would be fine."

"Alright, as long as I have a nice lab, along with normal interactions with animals and humans, I don't care if you have one of your agents on me."

Felix smiled with relief and said, "Okay then, your house will be in City A. A mansion in the outskirts of the city. Although the lab will take a day or 2 to install."

"City A, City C. You guys really like to keep things simple around here, don't you? So, who will be the agent following me around?"

Felix ignored Verlin sarcasm and said, " Rachel will be the one keeping an eye on you."

"Rachel? Are you sure that's appropriate?" Verlin said with raised eyebrows.

" You will be surprised how capable she is. And with you, it wouldn't make a difference between 1 girl and 100 men."

"That's not what I meant, but whatever. When will I be going to City A."

"You can follow Darwin. He will be heading back to the headquarters in City A this afternoon."

Verlin nodded his head and was about to leave the room . Before he left, he turned his head and said, " So, are the rest of you going to leave this base? Since I'm no longer here, what's the use of this place?"

"We can't leave yet. We still have to deal with the media."

"Right, good luck with that."

Verlin went back to the computer in his room and started looking at the map of the globe. There were only 5 continents, and each continent represented a country. The country he was in is named The West Federation. The others are called The North Federation, the South Federation, and the East Federation. The last one was a cold barren continent, which was where he probably was yesterday. Searching at the cities of the North Federation, Verlin saw that the cities were really just alphabets, from a to z. City A has the most concentrated population and also where the Federations headquarters is located.

Verlin didn't know if the North Federation was plotting something or not, but he didn't think they could do any harm to him. Not because he has been cooperative with them, and they have no reason to hurt him, but because he feels that no weapon on this planet could bring him any physical harm. Another interesting thing is that he couldn't find any details of any nuclear bombs. It seems the new humans didn't take the same route as the old humans. But Verlin fails to believe that the countries do not have a weapon of mass destruction. They must be keeping it a secret from the public.

As Verlin was looking through the information, time passed quickly, and it was already afternoon. Felix came to his room and told him that the Chopper Darwin was using to go back to City A had arrived. Verlin nodded his head and was about to pack up the computer . Felix stopped him and said, "You don't have to take that with you. There will be a computer at the place where you will be staying. Also we got you a phone. It's like a computer but smaller, you can fit it in your pocket. You can do your research on there."

Verlin was suspicious, but he still agreed. He didn't leave any dna on the computer. " Are you sure this is an ordinary phone?"

Verlin used his x-ray vision on the phone, but because he didn't have another phone to compare with, he couldn't see anything out of place. But he was sure there was some sort of tracker on it.

"It's just an ordinary phone, Just make sure you keep it on you at all times. That's how we will be communicating with you. And if there are any missions, we will be sending it through that."

Verlin raised an eyebrow and said, " Missions?"

Felix looked at him and said, " I thought you said you wanted to help people around. That phone is how we will inform you about them."

"Right, I did say that, but I meant helping with things that you humans can't deal with, like a meteor crash, tornado, tsunami, an airplane crash, and those type of things. I won't be running errands like protecting someone you deem important or fighting your battles."

Felix heard all this and was slightly confused because he didn't know what Verlin could do if something like a tsunami or tornado hit. But he still nodded his head and said, " Don't worry, we won't be calling you for anything unless it's absolutely necessary."

Verlin nodded his head, grabbed the phone, and walked away, but before he left, he said, "It was nice knowing you, general."

"You do know, I live in City A as well, right? And you're talking like I'm about to die." Felix said, but he didn't receive a reply.

Verlin walked out of the base and could feel the sun shining brightly. He saw a contraption that looked like a helicopter. It had the spinning blades on top, with a circular body, but it had no tail. It looked like a ball with helicopter choppers on top, with thrusters on the back of the body. He walked to the helicopter and saw Darwin, along with several soldiers, buckled up on their seats.

He climbed in and sat on the seat next to Darwin. One of the soldiers closed the door, and before long, the Chopper was in the air, making its way toward City A. Verlin stayed on his phone most of the time, scrolling through this planets version of Twitter, but after some scrolling. He tried talking with Darwin, but he soon realized Darwin was true talent. He easily killed conversations with little to no effort. Verlin wasn't sure if this was how Darwin usually is or if he really just didn't want to talk to him.

After 2 hours of flying, the helicopter finally arrived at City A and made its way to the headquarters of the military which took another 20 minutes and when they arrived, Verlin wasnt really suprised , It was a very barren area, with no civilization in a 5km radius. Before the helicopter landed, Verlin could see a small crowd of people waiting at the landing spot.

After the helicopter landed, Verlin got out of it and saw the people waiting for him. They looked like very important people from the way they carried themselves, He could only recognize Rachel from the whole bunch. One of the men walked up to him to give a hand shake and said,

" I am the general of armies, general Smith. I am Felix's superior, and Rachel's father."

Verlin looked up at the man, who was about 6 foot and 7 inches tall and shook his hand and said, " I am Verlin Velrin, and it is also nice meeting you."
