Chapter Eighteen:I Won't Be Your Burden!

Chapter Eighteen:I Won't Be Your Burden!

After assessing the situation on the ground, the Black Blood gang members present knew all too well that with the overwhelming numerical disadvantage, facing the Scorpio gang meant certain death. Escape was the only option left.

With hastiness, the remaining few of the Black Blood gang lifted Lin Yu and Li Yuan up, making their way towards a nearby Mahjong parlor controlled by their gang.

The Black Blood gang who remained at the original site were already few in number, further diminished by two sent away for errands. Now, only a pitiable five remained.

It wouldn't have been difficult for these five to escape on their own since the pursuers from the Scorpio gang, having chased for a lengthy period, were hardly at their peak physical condition.

However, aiding nearly incapacitated Lin Yu and Li Yuan in their escape was a challenge. The combined weight of the two men exceeded 300 pounds, a significant burden that slowed the Black Blood gang's five men to a crawl, making being caught only a matter of time.

As the Scorpio gang's reinforcements drew closer, the second-in-command of the Black Blood gang, Black Tiger, grew increasingly anxious.

Just then, a blood-covered Lin Yu suddenly broke free from his hold, pushing him away.

"Little Dragon, what are you..."

Confusion spread across Black Tiger’s face as he watched Lin Yu stop in his tracks, unsure of his intentions.

"Go on without me!"

"Take uncle and leave. Don't worry about me!!!" Lin Yu's slender form swayed, looking as though he might collapse at any moment, but his gaze was resolute, carrying a depth of melancholy that was hard to ignore.

"Don’t be foolish, let's go together!"

"The Mahjong parlor is just ahead; we'll be safe there!"

Black Tiger, his face marked by urgency, reached out to Lin Yu, fully aware of the brutal nature of the Scorpio gang. They wouldn't hesitate to inflict grievous harm on Lin Yu, possibly even fatal in his weakened state.

How could he possibly leave Lin Yu behind?

"Stop the drama!"

"Hurry up!" Lin Yu bellowed at Black Tiger, "If you take me, the Scorpio gang will catch up with all of us. Without me, maybe you can get uncle to safety!"

"It’s not the time to hesitate."

"Take uncle and leave!"

"You..."

Faced with Lin Yu's heroic resolve, Black Tiger was wracked with torment. After casting a final, pained look between the bloodied Lin Yu and the gunning Scorpio gang members, he, upon hearing Li Yuan's weary voice urging them to flee and promise to return for Lin Yu, made his decision.

"Little Dragon, hang in there. I’ll send help as soon as I reach the parlor!"

Lin Yu mustered a faint, desolate smile, nodding weakly before pushing himself to stand alone against the incoming threat.

Witnessing Lin Yu's self-sacrificing stance, the veteran who had endured six knife wounds without a whimper, now couldn't contain his tears.

Knowing this wasn't the time for sentimentality, he cast Lin Yu one last deep glance before swiftly turning to escape with Li Yuan in tow, moving towards the alley that led to the safety of their territory.

Meanwhile, Lin Yu staggered towards the opposite direction, his steps unsteady as if he were on the verge of falling.

The Scorpio gang soon arrived at the diverging paths. Their leader, pausing to assess the situation, directed some of his men to pursue the fleeing "blondie" while the rest followed him.

Approaching the alley, the four men tasked with Lin Yu's capture halted, puzzled by the seemingly empty lane. They exchanged bewildered looks, shocked at how the heavily wounded Lin Yu had vanished so swiftly.

Could it have been the young Usain Bolt?

Meanwhile, Lin Yu, cursing as he fixed his obstructive hair, sprinted at an incredible pace, dismissing any thought of being brought down by the incompetency around him.

After ensuring he was no longer pursued, Lin Yu finally paused, hiding in a shadowy alley to catch his breath. He carefully examined his head wound and, realizing it wasn't life-threatening, allowed himself a moment of relaxation.

But the relief was short-lived. Lin Yu knew he wasn't safe yet and needed to find a more secure location as soon as he regained some strength.

Despite his clear understanding of the jeopardy he was in, Lin Yu’s severely blood-deprived brain struggled to process thoughts clearly. His surroundings started to blur as dizziness and fatigue engulfed him, pushing him towards unconsciousness.

Forcing himself to stay awake, Lin Yu was keenly aware he needed to move to safety before the Scorpio gang could find him.

Yet, hidden eyes watched him from the darkness, adding an unseen layer of danger to his precarious situation.
