Chapter 38:I've Got Something Great to Show You!

“Yes, it's quite the coincidence. My name is Lin Yu,” he said with a smile.

After greeting Xia Mu Zhu, Lin Yu turned to the sullen white-haired man and said, “Buddy, just knowing her name doesn’t prove anything. Time to go on your way.”

The white-haired man stood his ground, his gaze turning venomous. After glancing around to ensure they were alone, he ominously warned, “I’d advise you to leave now and mind your own business.”

With that, he pulled out a folding knife from his pocket, pressing the button to release the blade which gleamed menacingly under the street light, clearly conveying a threat.

Seeing the knife, Xia Mu Zhu clung closer to Lin Yu, fear eclipsing her worry about proximity. Lin Yu, meanwhile, noted the knife with a dismissive curl to his lip and scoffed, “Heh, you call that little thing a weapon? Take a look at this.”

With confident bravado, Lin Yu lifted his coat and reached for his waist. Xia Mu Zhu, hidden behind him, was momentarily baffled by the curious turn of events. What was he planning to show?

Her face flushed, but her fears were unfounded as Lin Yu merely withdrew a black rod tucked into his belt and let his coat fall back into place.

"Check this out!" Lin Yu twirled the black rod in his fingers for a moment before pressing a switch. At its tip, four bent wires suddenly sparked with a faint purple glow, followed by a crackling of electricity. As the glow persisted, a slight scent of charring spread into the air.

"How about that?"

"Want to give it a try?" Lin Yu taunted with a roguish grin.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

The white-haired man, realizing his knife was no match for the stun baton, hastily retreated after a threat, “You just wait!”

Relieved to see the white-haired man leave, Xia Mu Zhu expressed her thanks, “I really can't thank you enough. I don't know what I would’ve done tonight without you.”

“It's nothing to it!” Lin Yu replied with the flair of a seasoned hero. He advised her, “However, you ladies should be careful walking alone at night. Avoid these less frequented side streets and try to stick to the main thoroughfares where there's more people and troublemakers are less likely to cause harm.”

Xia Mu Zhu nodded in full agreement, slightly shaken, and added, “Yes, I’ll have to be more careful. It's dangerous out here.”

“It’s not enough to just be cautious,” Lin Yu said, shaking his head with a serious look. “The world is full of surprises, and apart from being vigilant, you should prepare some self-defense tools to protect yourself when emergencies strike.”

With that, he waved the stun baton in front of Xia Mu Zhu and continued, “Like this—I take it wherever I go, and see, it came in handy, didn’t it?”

“And I think stun batons are very suitable for women,” Lin Yu held the baton in both hands, starting to rattle off its advantages. “It's compact and portable, takes up almost no space in a purse. Plus, it packs a punch; you could disable a bad guy in almost one second.”

“It's also safer than knives, which could accidentally injure you during an attack. And the best part—it's so easy to use!”

As he demonstrated, pressing the rubber button on the bottom of the baton, a fizzing current buzzed to life. Releasing his finger stopped it immediately.

“See, it's as simple as flipping a light switch,” Lin Yu boasted. “It’s an excellent choice for both naive damsels and sophisticated ladies alike for self-protection!”

Xia Mu Zhu nodded enthusiastically, already convinced by Lin Yu’s persuasive explanation. “How about it? Interested in one?”

With a smile, Lin Yu held the baton out to her. “I’ll take it!” Xia Mu Zhu reacted with excitement, reaching into her bag for money. After a few moments, she recalled the rushed departure from home, wallet forgotten, her purse only holding some change—probably not enough for the stun baton.

She shyly looked at Lin Yu and asked, “How much for the baton?”

“It’s free. I’ll give it to you,” Lin Yu replied smoothly, placing the baton into her open bag and boasting, “Look, it fits perfectly right in there.”
