025 duels

"Luke, knew you were here." On this day, Fleiger, Ron and Harry joined forces in the library and found Luke - Luke's routine had become extremely regular for some time now, and he could be found in the library, except in class, or in the dining hall at mealtimes.

Luke put down the Potions textbook in his hands and looked up at his "old" friends, whom he had known since before he started school, "Hey, you guys haven't come to see me in a while."

"We can't usually be in class together, we never get together except for Transfiguration, and our classes always overlap with the pesky Slytherins." Fleiger complained accusingly, "The library has become your quarters, and I never saw you work so hard in muggle school...we Gryffindors are probably the only ones who run into you regularly, that overbearing Miss Know-It-All."

"The deeds of you few have managed to reach my ears quite often this while. For example, Harry did a great job today, helping Longbottom take the memory ball from Malfoy." Luke described what he had heard the younger wizards talk about even in the library - something Mrs Pince had sternly silenced them for many times.

"Yeah, you don't know how great Harry was today ...... He swooped down from maybe fifty feet or so and grabbed Neville's memory ball." Fleiger raised his eyebrows as if it was he himself who had caught the memory ball.

"Speaking of which Neville glowed just after receiving the memory ball, what exactly did he forget?" Luke had been curious as to why the fat boy's memory ball was glowing.

"He forgot to wear his Hogwarts magical robes." Ron shrugged, but his loud voice was too loud. (Author's note: In the memory ball part of the film, all the students except Neville were wearing robes.)

"Hey, be quiet! This is a library." Mrs Pince, the librarian, waved her feather duster in warning to Fleiger.

"But Malfoy offered us a wizarding duel. But Luke, you know me, I know so little magic." Harry lowered his voice and turned to Luke with a difficult look on his face, a habit he had picked up in Muggle school that made him unable to resist telling Luke when things went wrong.

"Malfoy's assistant is Vincent Crabbe, and I was going to be Harry's assistant with Fleiger, but they both agreed that you had a better chance of winning as an assistant." Ron added from the sidelines with a somewhat disgruntled look at Harry, not that he had a problem with Luke, he just thought that while Luke's grades were good, they didn't mean that he was any good at actual combat, and Fleiger's magical talent was so poor that whenever it came to the practical extremes, he was always one of the few people in the class who were lagging behind, along with Neville.

Malfoy wouldn't go for this ridiculous duel, and he did, although it actually detracted from the glory of the purebloods, and thinking about that, Luke replied, "Has it not occurred to you that Malfoy might not turn up?"

"In any case, there's no way a wizard would run away from a duel that's already been initiated, how humiliating would that be!" Ron said full of concern, he didn't see it as a problem, how to beat the crap out of Malfoy was.

Luke had to admit that under normal circumstances, wizards didn't run away from duels, and while Malfoy had managed to shade Harry and the others, normal purebloods would have been fine, but as a member of the ancient Sacred Twenty-Eight - although most people weren't too likely to take a duel in the form of a first year kid going through the motions too seriously either, but if a different adult wizard doing this, his kind of behaviour would only bring shame to his family.

"Luke, you'll be my assistant." Harry looked expectant.

"Well, as you wish, my friend." Luke didn't feel good about pushing back, otherwise it would be easier to arouse suspicion in the muggle world if you were so deliberately distant when such a close friend asked you so much, and by the way, he got to see the legendary music-loving three-headed dog.

"We're going to win." Ron and Harry high-fived each other excitedly, and this time both of them little lions forgot to keep their loud voices down.

"Out! Get out all of you, it's too loud!" Mrs Pince trotted over angrily waving her feather duster to shoo them away.

"So Luke, I'll see you in the prize showroom at eleven thirty tonight." The three Harrys ran out of the library quickly with a cheeky grin.

"Are you going to duel Malfoy and the others?" Luke's roommate Edward yawned as he stepped out from the shadows of the bookshelves.

"Don't worry, it'll be fine." Luke thought he would never get caught.

"That's true, is it hard for young wizards our age to duel by spraying sparks at each other?" As if he had figured something out, Edward laughed. "And the big deal if you get caught is that your points are deducted, you'll get them back in a few days."

If you didn't count that little tidbit, Luke's day had been a very successful one, and he'd managed to get through A Thousand Magical Herbs and Mushrooms, feeling as satisfied as if he'd had his fill.

At eleven thirty at night, it was already curfew time, and Luke crept out of bed, Edward long asleep. Using the illusion spell that came with his wizard robes once, Luke quickly made his way to the prize showroom on the fourth floor.

The Prize Display Room housed all the honours won by students and faculty in the past, prizes, statues, trophies, plates, shields and medals, all displayed in crystal showcases, and it also contained a list of all the male and female student body presidents.

Luke took cover behind one of the huge display cases and waited for a while before he saw Harry and the others.

"Why are you so late? Weren't you guys looking forward to the duel tonight?" Luke snapped deliberately as he looked behind them at the head with this thick head of hair, "Huh, there's one more."

"Well Luke, her name is Hermione Granger, she had to follow, we had no choice." Ron grumbled exasperatedly to Luke.

"What you're doing is against school rules, I must ......" Hermione now looked puffed up, "Mr Harris didn't think you'd mess around with them... "

"Calm down Miss Granger, you are now breaking school rules yourself." Luke pointed out this fact calmly, then spared a glance to see Hermione's shaggy hair shaking as if it were fried from anger, "Professor McGonagall's character won't listen to your defence..."

"That's because the fat lady janitor ran off late at night to skewer whichever portrait I couldn't get back to! Mr Harris, you've been praised by all the professors, as an honours student you wouldn't think this ridiculous duel was right, would you?" Hermione struggled for Luke's approval, "We should stop them together!"

"Yes, it is indeed a ridiculous duel, but as a wizard, since we agreed to a duel, we should honour our word, it's a matter of dignity, and if anyone breaks it is going to be looked down upon..." asked Luke as he raised his hand to stop Hermione, who was about to say something else, and turned his head towards Harry. "Well Harry, you and Malfoy agreed on a time? Since you're already a little late and he's still nowhere to be seen, have you considered the scenario where I tell you this afternoon that he might not be coming over?"

"It's past twelve midnight, Malfoy and the others are already here ah...they wouldn't have been caught by Filch would they?" Harry glanced at the mechanical watch that Fleg had given him - it was more of a hassle than using batteries, but at least in the confines of Hogwarts, where electronics could be damaged, such items would work.

"Malfoy probably won't get caught, but Crabbe not so much...you saw his size." Ron deflated, he still hadn't realised that Malfoy as a pureblood wizard would voluntarily break his word after initiating a duel.

The crystal glass case displaying the prizes gleamed in the moonlight. In the darkness, trophies, shields, medals and statues shone silver and gold as the five men moved forward against the wall, their eyes glued to the doors at either end of the room, Harry pulling out his wand in case Malfoy burst in and dueled him.

The minutes ticked by.

"Maybe he's too scared to come because he's scared." Ron, who was waiting impatiently, said quietly.

At that moment, a voice came from the next room, startling Fleiger who jumped straight up and the others raised their wands.

Harry had just raised his wand when he heard, "The little brats are probably hiding in some corner."

The Keeper of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Argus Filch was speaking to his cat, Madame Loris.

Frantic with terror Harry waved his wand wordlessly at the other four, telling them to follow him as quickly as they could; they walked silently and noiselessly towards the door away from Filch's voice, and soon they heard Filch enter the prize display room.

"They're here somewhere," they heard the caretaker mutter in a low voice, "probably hiding."

This way! -- Harry gestured silently to the group with a wink and a finger, and Miss Know-It-All Hermione, who was clearly terrified at this point, instinctively nodded without saying a word before following the group silently down a corridor full of armour next to the prize display room, where she could hear Filch getting closer and closer to them.

"Clunk, clunk ......" Fleiger accidentally bumped into a piece of armour, the sound of it tumbling around was particularly jarring in the stillness of the night.

"Run!" Luke took the lead and ran wildly, and the five men immediately ran down the corridor at full speed.

Not daring to look back to see if Filch was following - they ran around doorposts and down corridor after corridor, and finally they burrowed down near the classroom where they were having their spells class.

"I - told - you guys," Hermione panted, gripping the seams of her coat at her chest with her hands, "I -told- you guys!"

Luke looked away from the grumbling crowd after a brief glance, as the "Luvvie" sanctuary with a hint of Hell's Three Headed Dog blood was on this floor.
