As Josef peacefully slept during the English study hall due to their teacher, Ms. English, giving up teaching the class and slamming the classroom door closed, Josef was roughly awoken by a loud and forceful slap to the face.
"Oh shit! The fuck was that!?" yelled Josef in surprise. He tried not to be loud even when surprised as he didn't want to grab anyone's attention.
"Dude, it's time for lunch, come on." Caden said casually.
While Josef was asleep, Caden slapped Josef in the face in order to wake him up. After recovering from the rush of adrenaline caused by the sudden surprise of the slap, Josef calmed down as this situation was quite normal for him. Josef and Caden had been together for quite a while, and luckily for them, they were always in the same class together. Because of this, Caden has always known how to deal with the listless and heavy sleeper known as Josef. He had tried a lot of tactics in order to wake Josef up from his deep slumber. The methods include yelling at him, shaking his body vigorously, pinching him, and blocking his nose, but all these tactics failed as Josef was still sleeping. He was almost unreachable in his sleep but Caden pulled out the last resort of a nice slap to the face, and in this way, Caden finally found a way to wake Josef up. From their childhood up until the present, Josef would always be woken up by a slack to the face, and quite frankly, he wasn't mad about it as this tactic prevented him from getting grilled by the teachers.
The two walked out of their classroom after grabbing their phones and wallets from their bags. They walked across the long hallway away from their isolated classroom and down the stairs to the first floor. They traversed through another long hallway and went out the door to the right wing building of the school. Their school was quite large and had three buildings in use. As they entered the right-wing building, they were welcomed with a large wave of chatter and noise from the entire room. The undecipherable chatter from the room enveloped their ears. They wandered their vision through the entire landscape: countless tables and chairs with people sitting and eating, chatting to their peers, spilled drinks and pieces of fries, breadcrumbs scattered throughout the white, greasy floor, and a crowd of people flooding a section of the room. The room was indeed the cafeteria, dubbed as the hungry battlefield of starving zombies.
Caden and Josef approached the large crowd of people that were roughly pushing and pulling their own peers in order to purchase their needed nutrients for the day. Caden sighed as he knew what was going to happen next.
"All right, you know the drill." Said Josef as he grabbed his wallet from his right pocket, he grabbed a five dollar bill and handed it to Caden.
"What would you like today, good sir?" said Caden as he put on a heavy british accent, pretending to be a classy waiter.
"Just the usual chicken and cheese sandwich and a bottle of water, keep the change my good man." he said as he tried to match Caden's accent.
It was time for the inevitable, the most dreaded part of Caden's day. Despite being used to fighting and roughhousing, he still feared the time when it came for lunch, as he needed to fight his way through the hordes of hungry zombies in order to grab the not-so-delicious food that was lined up on the counter. Sometimes he wished that they were really zombies so he could mercilessly mow them down with a chainsaw and grab his well deserved meal like a boss, but that was only wishful thinking in order to brighten the events that will happen next.
Caden took a deep breath and walked cautiously towards the loud horde. He was at the very back of the sea of people. He tried to squeeze in, he tried and tried again, he used all his strength to try to squeeze himself inside the horde, but he couldn't, he was simply being pushed out of the way. Caden walked back a few steps and positioned himself like one who's ready to begin in a race.

"On your marks, get set, go!" exclaimed Josef.
As soon as Josef said "go" Caden bolted to the sea of people running as fast as lighting—well, not quite. As he reached the very back of the horde, he grunted like a monkey and dove through, squeezing himself inside, and because of the momentum from his starting sprint, he had done it. The first part was successfully done, the next step was going to the front of the line.
Caden was in a hurry because the sandwiches were one of the first things to run out. Caden tried his best to get to the front, he pushed, pulled, grabbed, and punched his way through the crowd without any sympathy, as he didn't care who he was hitting. He didn't care if it was an upperclassman, a frail girl or even a cancer patient, all he had in his mind was to go through the front and grab his and Josef's lunches. After a few painful minutes of struggling his way through the front, he had finally done it, with a few bruises here and there but he had still done it. Now that he was on the front of the horde, he was now only hands length away from the scrumptious lunches that were displayed, and it was now time to choose.
Caden looked around at the displayed items on the counter and glanced left and right, but he struggled to find the correct sandwiches. He didn't have time to check each one as they were quickly running out, he almost made the decision of grabbing a random sandwich and calling it a day, but in the last second, he saw a sandwich with a layer of yellow and brown, it was the chicken and cheese sandwich that Josef wanted. He quickly grabbed the sandwich just in time as someone else was also trying to grab it, luckily, he got to it first. He then grabbed a random sandwich for himself, as he didn't care what he would eat. He also grabbed two water bottles along with them just in time before he got swatted away by the other hungry students who were in need of nourishment. Now came the final step, paying. Caden rushed to the counter, where he needed to pay for his food.
Josef smiled from across the room, thinking about the struggles Caden was going through right now. He smiled at the thought of him getting hurt—like how friends do. After a few minutes, he could see Caden approaching him with a worn-out expression.
"Here's your fucking sandwich." Said Caden as he handed him his requested lunch.
"Also, here's your money back."
"Wait what?" Asked Josef.
"I didn't pay, there was no one at the counters, so I just.. left." the two laughed for a bit.
With their lunches secured, it was time to eat them, but they still needed to wait for their friends from class 1-A: Gerald, Avery, and Serenity.
The two went back to the main building and climbed the long flight of stairs up to the roof. Because of the blizzard, it wasn't feasible to eat on the snow-covered roof as it was obviously too cold there, so Caden and Josef decided to camp out at the stairwell next to the door to the roof. They could hear footsteps approaching, they were at first quite tensed as they thought that it was another group of students approaching, attempting to claim their land, but as they saw the familiar faces of their friends, they quickly began to feel at ease and proceeded to greet each other like usual and sit on the cold floor. Josef and Avery sat beside each other, they are both in a relationship, Gerald and Serenity were also seated together as they were already sure that they would get married when they graduated, and Caden was seated alone. Caden got a lot of shit from being single, but he simply didn't care, he was somewhat good-looking, and his british accent does attract some attention, but his relationships didn't last long as the regular and normal girls simply didn't want to get involved with "violent people". He was somewhat discouraged at times, but most of the time, he didn't give a fuck as he wasn't looking for a partner in the first place.
They began chatting to each other about the usual topics, bone-in or boneless chicken, bashing on America, and dissing Gerald for his terrible food takes. They happily ate their lunch, and as they heard the ringing of the school bells, their lunch came to a close. They all parted ways and went back to their rooms. Caden and Josef got off at the 2nd floor as their classroom was on the far right of the second floor, while the others went all the way down to the first floor to the far left of the main building, where classroom 1-A lies. It was time for the afternoon classes.
