Chapter 2
Fifteen years later,
In a mountain at the edge of mortal plane,
Cries of children could be heard in a simple hut surrounded by trees. A couple could be seen peacefully sitting in the hut carrying a small girl with them who was clawing on her mother's chest probably for the nurturing milk that she needed. A lazy kid could be seen slumbering and drooling beneath a tree near the hut whereas another child could be seen reading papers with Sanskrit words written in them. The kid seemed fascinated by the tales in the paper and was really engrossed in them. All in all it was a beautiful morning with a harmonious air surround the mountain.
Suddenly an anguished cry of an animal could be heard from the surrounding trees. Yet the children and the couple didn’t seem too startled or scared. Instead the children had a look of anticipation in their face. A shadow of a huge animal could be seen as if it was crawling which would unnerve many a great warrior. As light fell on the shadow, it could be seen that the shadow was of a huge bison. The bison was at least 8 feet tall in length and 7 feet in width, which made it taller than a normal human size. The strange thing was however not the size of the bison but the young child that seemed to be dragging it effortlessly. It seemed nearly improbable that the child could actually drag the thing so easily. Even 2 grown men would have difficulty dragging such a carcass around. Even the gods would be shocked to see the scene.
The child dragged the carcass in front of the couple and dropped it there.
"Mother here's our food for tonight. Here, let me hold little sister now." The child happily spoke and then extended his hand to carry his sister. Then he left with his brothers to play around in the forest.
As the children left, the man spoke with a soft sigh "Our child is growing Kaikesi. If only he had gotten proper resources and knowledge, he would be a bright shining star by now. Too bad we are in this kind of predicament." The woman with a shy smile in her face spoke" Yet, I'm happy with things as they are now. We may not have gold or servants or palaces with us but we do have each other. I'm still thankful for that."
"Yes but for how long? Sooner or later they will find me. I fear what will happen to you and the children then." The man spoke.
The couple was none other than Kaikesi and Vishrava who once lived in one of the seven palaces of Devgana, the abode of gods. As per the agreement made among the seven sages and the gods, only the mother and the child were supposed to leave. However, it should be known that Vishrava was the son of Pulastya, one of the seven great sages that were above gods. Naturally being the beloved son of Pulastya, he was told of the situation beforehand. Thus as soon as the child was born, he had escaped through a portal into one of the mortal planes and hidden there with had been fifteen years. In the span of fifteen years, 3 other children had been born into their family.
As the parents were talking the children were playing near the other side of the forest. But no one who saw them would say that they were playing. This was because except the eldest son who carried the child the other two had maces and swords in their hands, with many different weapons in a pavilion. Sparks and shockwaves could be seen as they fought.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
The eldest son of the family was named Ravana of fifteen years with whom the couple had escaped to the mortal plane. The second brother was Vibhisana who was thirteen years old. From the name itself, both Ravana and Vibhisana were polar opposites. Ravana meant loudly roaring, roaring to shake the heavens while Vibhisana meant listening calmly. Ravana liked to fight and test his strength whereas Vibhisana liked sitting calmly and using his mind. However the two brothers had a common thirst for knowledge. Due to this they got along well. Ravana usually organized the hunt and Vibhisana exchanged the hunt for other important things like clothes, seasonings with the nearby village which was just down the mountain. In this way their system worked well.
The third brother however was different from both of them. He liked taking his life slow and easy. Though in brute strength both the brothers were not a match for him, he rarely showed off and was usually found sleeping. The little child was the only female sibling they had. So naturally she was pampered more by all the family members. The third brother was named Kumbhakarna and the sister was named Surpanakha. Kumbhakarna was 7 years old wheras Surpanakha was a year and half old.
As the boys were mock fighting against each other producing sounds like that of valiant warriors "Yaah", "Die", etc, the little girl was clapping.
Seeing the little sister so jubilant, Ravana softly laughed and spoke "Suppu, you having fun? Well then, elder brother is going to join in as well." Saying this he got up and walked to the pavilion. Closing his eyes he chose a random weapon which turned out to be a spear. Now since ancient time, mostly normal human warriors, devas and rakhsas were allowed to choose a single weapon, they then used the same kind of the weapon for their whole life. Only prince or those with excellent talent were allowed to choose more than one weapon. However, Ravana was different.
Kumbhakarna had an unmatched physical body, Vibhisana had the calmness he used to create strategis and Ravana had the unique talent to sense and feel the weapon. Also both their parents had trained them to use different weapons. Since Kumbhakarna had physical prowess, he liked using a mace and its variant like a club. Vibhisana disliked fighting yet he could use a sword or sabre combined with a shield properly. Ravana was trained to use every weapon properly. He had trained in bow and arrow sonce childhood. He also learned to use spear, mace, sword properly from his father. However his favorite weapon was a trident which was taught to him by his mother. He also had interest in music, and could be seen playing Veena leisurely to soothe his crying sister or to get praised by his brothers.
As Ravana started using his spear, he firstly started of slow. Even with starting slow, the air seemed to screech as he stabbed the spear forward. He then slowly started doing complicated moves with increasing speed. As the speed increased only blurs could be seen. Even the fighting brothers stopped their spar and watched with rapt fascination as Ravana fiercely moved the spear. As the speed increased, three Ravana could be seen each seemingly doing different moves creating a ferocious air around them. Seeing this, both the brother's eyes flickered for a while and then determination could be seen in them. Thus they too started practicing hard with their own weapons. As the sky started darkening, moon and stars could be seen coming out in the sky. Rumbling sounds could be heart coming out from the children as they were famished due to hunger. They stopped their training and Kumbha carried their little sister. They went to the hut where their parents were waiting for them. The children ate ravenously as the food was laid out before them. Even the little girl Suppu, ate some pieces of meat and then fell asleep yawning in a cute way.
It was a blissful atmosphere which would make even the gods jealous. However it was not meant to last. This atmosphere turned out to be the calm before the storm, ending their happy carefree life and bringing a turning point in their lives.
