Volume 2: Rebellion: Chapter 17.2 - The Light is Fading

Elena and her friends followed Vince and Acton in the city. They were led towards a towering silver palace, standing at a height of two hundred meters in the middle of the city. Of course, the silver was only a thin layer on the surface of the building. A hundred meters tall walls surrounded its area of five square kilometers. From ten to two hundred meters tall buildings with trees and bushes on the top of them made up the city.

There were levitating cars all around the city and everyone had some kind of gun on their bodies. Walking closer to Audrey, Elena snorted, “Haha, their guns might be dangerous for others, but not for us. They can’t even damage us in our Shadow Forms and there are people with similar skills even on Dunk planet. They could pose a threat to common Warriors and Mages, but the stronger ones could obliterate this whole planet.”

Nodding her head, Audrey remarked, “The level of technology on Dunk is probably so much lower than here because there is no need for it.”

“You are very clever for pointing out the obvious,” Elena laughed loudly and teased Audrey.

“You started a conversation just to make a fool out of me? I want to hit you now, but really. Come here,” Audrey waved her hand at Elena.

Understanding their words, Vince laughed, “Hahaha, she is very lively, isn’t she?”

“She is, but it can get on my nerves sometimes,” Audrey sighed loudly and hung her head, slumping her shoulders.

“Aww~ don’t be mad, but your face is always so funny,” she hugged Audrey from behind.

“If only Dred was here… he would definitely rebuke you,” Audrey grumbled.

Leaning very close to Audrey’s right ear, Elena whispered, “I have some plans. I’m quite sure that Sally mistook us as members of the King’s faction on Dunk. But we could change that if we became affiliated with the Kingdom here, on Dink. But I don’t want to be a ‘servant’ of anyone, so… the King has to go.”

“Huh? Do you want to kill him and take his place?” Audrey whispered with furrowed brows, using Wind Magic to block their voices.

“I should. But I can’t make people accept me as a Queen when they know nothing about me and I come out of nowhere. But if I could meet with Sally or the City Lord as the Queen of this Kingdom from Dink… we could form a treaty and help them out. It would also clear their suspicion of us,” Elena muttered.

“Well, that sounds like a great plan, but if we don’t even know the name of ‘your’ Kingdom, then this plan is pointless,” Audrey chuckled.

“Erm, I’ll try to change on that in a moment. Also, we will have to be quick. As I’ve noticed it, Mages are respected and revered here. Our abilities might help us and these people definitely don’t know anything about my race and its abilities. This is basically a free-ground for me! We may use Eon Element for the first time. It would be for the best if we increased our control. It wouldn’t be good if we blew up the planet,” Elena replied, her hand on her chin.

“Hey, Vince. What was this Kingdom called again?” Jake asked at the best moment.

“It’s called the Drung Kingdom and you are on our planet, which is called Dink. Legends say that there was another planet connected to this one in the past, which was called Dunk. I suppose you came from that planet and that gate connects us with your world,” he replied with a frown on his face, lost in his thoughts.

“Is that so? Is there some sort of archive where you have ancient relics or anything of the sort? It could help us find out more about our current situation. Our world has many Magic-” he said, but Audrey covered his mouth after hearing Elena’s plans. If she wanted to be a Queen, it was for the best if people didn’t know that her current abilities weren’t all that great in their world.

“Come here, I have to tell you something,” she said as he pulled him closer to her body, showing a smile to Vince, all the while forgetting their budding relationship.

“Ah, okay,” Jake muttered, feeling happy to feel Audrey’s arm around his back. Without her notice, he too embraced her, while she told him Elena’s plans.

“So, how does this Kingdom work, what about cultures, selections, and such? If you really want me to help you, I want information,” Elena started talking to Vince in the meantime, using her cards to gather intelligence.

A strange glint appeared in Vince’s eyes when he heard her questions, visibly happy to see her interest. “Our King is called Hector XII, a descendant of the legendary King from the past. He is a wise King, but unfortunately, his forefathers handled the ancient, huge empire in the wrong way and the size and power of our Kingdom fell to its current state as a result. We lost many valuable areas and treasures because of the whimsical Kings in the past.”

“Our current King is loved by everyone. He also decided that instead of continuing the lineage, the next King should be selected by twelve electors, and only the best candidate could become the next King. This might be because he doesn't have a son yet, but it's still a wise decision. Anyone can become a King, as long as they are talented enough. Until his death, our King, Hector, would stay on the throne.”

Stolen novel; please report.

“He makes the most important decisions all by himself, though the electors can share their opinions. We have a magic academy for talented magicians, and each and every member of it is highly revered in the Kingdom. Our King is a powerful Magician too,” he said proudly, sticking out his chest.

“That’s all about politics… Culture. Hmm, it’s common to train as a soldier since every Kingdom and empire is a threat and wars are commonplace here. Normal people use weapons, which you can see in Acton’s hands too. The higher up you are in the rankings, the more money you earn and the more respect you receive.”

“When you finish the Magician Academy, you will earn a Noble status and an area of your own. I’d tell you to respect them and be careful with them, but your Magic is above anything I’ve ever seen before. Still, please be understanding with them in the future. Some of them are a bit narcissistic, but they are still good people and protect the Kingdom.”

“Most of our technologies are machine handled, so we don’t need any workforce. A few people who failed at the military courses can maintain the machines.”

“Oh? And what about you?” Elena asked, raising a brow, knowing all too well that he had nothing to do with the military.

Scratching the back of his head, his face slightly red, he responded, “You see, I was never good when it came to fighting, and even now, I’m really bad at it. I had to take the military exam at the age of twelve, but I failed, which is a big shame. That’s when I started searching for ways to increase my strength with ancient methods. I found a few relics, which turned out to be valuable and brought in a lot of money for me.”

“I used it to learn even more and started expeditions with a few soldiers. I found parts of your language and I started to decipher and learn it, leading to my current knowledge. It turned out that I had talent when it came to languages since I learned it really quickly. I think that I’m quite good, am I not?”

“Haha, you are, you are,” Elena laughed, elbowing his side.

Seeing her friendly side, a smile formed on his face, “I’ve been working as a Historian, Linguist, and Translator for the King for five years now. I know eight languages!”

“That’s nice. I’ll see what I can do for your little Kingdom, though I might just leave so don’t get your hopes up,” she replied, patting Vince’s shoulders.

“Miss Elena, that would be really bad. I request you, to help our Kingdom. I know that it would be dangerous and that I’m asking too much, but please. The Sliton Empire is still new but too powerful. Their Emperor is a maniac, a barbarian! Although their technology is only a little bit ahead of the technology of other Kingdoms and Empires, their population is much greater. When they win a war, they enslave the defeated Kingdoms.”

“They rape women, kill fathers, literally anything. If they defeat our Kingdom, our cities… our people… I beg you to help us!” he bowed down and begged once again.

“Hey, hey, you are making a ruckus. People are watching… just stand up. I’ll decide once I heard everything and gathered some more information, but don’t worry. It’s likely that I’ll help you out a bit if nothing else,” she replied, waving her hand.

“Ah! May the King bless you!” Vince shouted, catching everyone’s attention.

“Haah- let me talk to my friends for a moment. My plans changed a bit,” she sighed, turning around. Entering into Audrey’s invisible Wind Barrier, she spoke, “So, I don’t know if you’ve heard Vince’s words?”

“We did. My barrier is one way,” Audrey smiled.

“Good. His words were honest and it seems like they are liking this King. I can’t just kill a good leader when I decided that I’d kill only bad people. It would go against the morals I’ve set for myself. A few smaller mice can be sacrificed for the greater good, but not the main leader, a King. It would do much more harm than good,” Elena said with furrowed brows.

“So what’s your point? I have an idea for you,” Audrey asked, looking at Jake with a knowing smile.

“What? I too have a plan, but I’ll hear you out,” she replied, brushing her hand through her black hair.

“Jake said that this place seems to be too good to mess up. These people are desperate and are holding together like a big family or clan. So after thinking about it, we thought that this Sliton Empire sounded really vicious instead. What if you changed your playground?” Audrey asked, raising her brows, her hands on her hips.

“Haha, I’ll tell you something. I thought the same thing. I’ll gather some intelligence about that empire and if Vince’s words were really true… I might turn into an evil legend in the future. I have no qualms about killing good people either. I’m a monster, after all. But it’s a fact that I enjoy killing bad people~”

“Hehe, shall we spank them?” Jake asked with a chuckle, raising his fist.

“Of course!” Elena and Audrey exclaimed, bumping their fists with his.

“Ah~ Mass genocide will find its true meaning in my hands. I’ll murder the ‘Trash’ race,” Elena said with an evil smile, licking her lips.

“Oh! I’ve just got an idea. I’m sure that this place isn’t the best to learn blade handling, but it’s likely to be better than what I or Audrey know. If we really do help this Kingdom, we could ask for a few professionals to teach us,” Elena stomped on the ground, already planning her rewards.

“You’ve decided everything, haven’t you? I pity that empire, they’ll die anyway…” Audrey remarked, shaking her head.

“N-No… if Vince didn’t say the truth, which he did, then I won’t attack Sliton Empire, I think.”

“You didn’t sound too convincing,” Jake said with a chuckle. Furrowing her brows, Elena looked back and forth between Jake and Audrey. Noticing that Jake was embracing Audrey’s back, a grin splattered on her face.

“How lovey-dovey you are. I don’t watch over you only for a minute and you are hugging each other. In the next minute, you’d definitely kiss and in the next, you would have sex, hahaha,” she laughed, teasing the both of them. Looking down, Audrey noticed that Jake was holding her all this time.

“Huh? I didn’t even notice, well, it would be pointless to act all surprised and blushy now, isn’t it? Get over it,” Audrey shrugged her shoulders. Seeing Elena’s surprised face, she embraced Jake. Elena didn’t even know that her continuous teasing only made them feel closer to each other as victims of the same person.

“Eh? Okay,” Elena hung her head, feeling childish upon seeing Audrey’s reaction. I should stop this or I’ll look like an idiot in the future… maybe I look like an idiot now too?! She thought as a feeling of worry welled up in her.
