Path Points

Congratulations! Dodge is now lvl 5.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill Physical Fitness lvl 1.

As Milo tried time and time to escape, somehow he always picked the worst timings. As he tried escaping as soon as the goblin swung, another goblin was waiting outside of the alleyway. Cursing his luck, another goblin joined the mix.

Milo was getting tired and he had no way of escaping the surrounding goblins. Even if he did, there was probably going to be other goblins wandering somewhere.

With escape out the window, he tried fighting the goblins. But each time he punched, he distinctively pulled it back. He was a pathetic pacifist. He couldn't even defend himself.

Congratulations! Dodge is now lvl 6.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill Flee lvl 1!

Congratulations! Due to being the first player to spare a monster and learn 'Flee', the "Pacifist Path" is open to you!

Inwardly sighing at his tried state, he started multitasking. While dodging all the attacks of the goblins, he looked more at the system and it's 'paths'. Selecting the paths on the menu, it brought up another screen with 4 paths and numbers next to them. There was a Newbie Path 0/5 which needed 5 points, while another was Cowardice Path 0/10 and Pacifist Path 0/10, which both needed 10 points. The last one however was the Among Monsters Path 0/??, it was a mystery.

Above the paths on the top right of the screen it displayed PP: 8, probably the points that each path needed. Carefully deciding, Milo chose the newbie path to complete since he had enough points for it.

Congratulations! You have earned 5 stat point(s).

Congratulations! You have completed the Newbie Path! +1 to all stats, +1 stat point per level, +4 Health per level, +2 Mana and +2 Stamina per level. You have learned the active skills Mana Bolt Lvl 1 and Heavy Blow Lvl 1!

It was a nice a pleasant surprise to Milo so I carefully chose what he should do next. It seemed like leveling up skills gave him PP or whatever that was. Now that he had more skills, what should he do?

Besides feeling slightly lighter and his mind was a bit more clear, he didn't think that was enough to survive whatever was out there. A level 3 goblin was giving him trouble, imagine a level 4 or 5. Imagine a level 10, Milo shuddered at the thought.

As his dodging level increased, his points grew bigger along with Physical Fitness working in the background. Milo continued to dodge and swerve with his movement. It was getting easier and easier to deal with certain attacks and swings. Thinking this whole scenario was a bit stupid, he tried finding away out.

Rushing his movements, he pounced on a goblin and kicked it on the face effectively knocking it out. As for the other one, he stood back and shrieked loudly. Milo cursed at the goblin silently and ran out the alleyway and on to the dark streets. Even though he didn't think he could survive out here, I was way better than being stuck with two blood thirsty goblins.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Connecting some dots as well, the voices he heard in his head was due to his Monster Telepathy, it even levelled up to level 3. Along with Dodge reaching level 8, Flee reaching level 2 and Physical Fitness reaching lvl 3. All together he gained 6 more points. Now he had 9 points, choosing to put them on a path, he chose Pacifist Path.

Congratulations! You have earned 4 stat point(s).

Congratulations! You have earned +2 Willpower, +2 Agility, +1 Control.

With every odd point, it gave him either endurance, agility or control. While the even stats gave him distributive stats. Milo was quite interested in the other stats beside the main four and tried testing things out.

Placing a stat in perception he felt his vision widen and expand, like he could see things more clearly. Although it was a slight improvement, it could prove useful to find enemies.

Placing a stat in Reaction, he felt nothing? Strange, he would experiment with this stat later.

Putting a stat in Control, his body felt much more fluid? Like everything was moving as it should be, Milo guessed it helped with the control of his strength and body.

Finally putting one in focus, he felt almost like when he put one in reaction, except he felt more aware. Like he had a third eye, but it wasn't that effective.

Finished with his stats, he snuck into a nearby store with flickering lights. The shelves were all trashed and broken and everything was in the floor. Was another monster nearby or just some person, it could be anyone to be honest. Both were destructive in stressful situations, but he doubted monsters would care about clothes and food. Would they?

Carefully stepping around the store, he was still shirtless and barefoot. Glass was broken below him so he had to carefully tread around not to alarm anyone or hurt his feet. Picking up a plain t-shirt off a rack, he quietly apologised and put on some grey house slippers. His outfit was pretty weird but he didn't care.

Sneaking carefully around, he heard distant whispers. Somewhere in the staff room or storage, someone was talking. Strangely a notification popped up and startled me.

Congratulations! You have learned the skill Sneak lvl 1.

Congratulations! Monster Aura is now lvl 2.

Monster aura? Clicking on the skill in his stat menu, he wondered what it was and what caused it to level up.

Monster Aura: A passive skil which causes you to be seen as a monster, but within eyesight that effect will diminish. Power of aura is based on player level.

As soon as Milo finished reading the description, he heard a loud shout. "CHARGE!" Barging out of the storage room and staff room were two boys armed with a mop with a knife attached at the end. Nearing my with their spears, Milo looked strangely at them.

Surprisingly he was quite calm and saw through all of their attack. Twisting his hips to the side and dodging both stabs from the boys, he took ahold of the spears. Now that their weapons were caught and they stood in place, Milo got a closer look at the two.

One of the boys had chestnut hair with small freckles. Other other was taller then the chestnut kid and had black hair that was styled backwards. Both wore some sort of school uniform with a blazer. Looking closer, both looked horrified and scared. Both of their hands nervously shook. Smiling at the boys Milo let go of their spears.

As soon as he let go, they yanked their spears closer to themselves and aimed it back at Milo. Sighing, why were they doing this?

"You!... Who are you and what are you doing here?" Milo saw the taller boy speak in a determined voice which brought a smile to his face. He finally remembered him, he was Jacob. He was 13 years old and was the younger brother of Anna, a friend from school. He hadn't interacted with him in a year so he looked a bit different.

"Relax kid, remember me? Milo?"

"Milo? You mean Anna's friend?"

"Yeah remember me?"

"Milo?..."

Jacob looked towards Milo with caution, but eventually that gaze turned friendly. Jacob sighed a breath of relief and put down his spear, also making his friend put his down as well. They looked exhausted and tired, how long was he in that alleyway?
