Ch. 39 Despair

Weary and exhausted I should have collapsed already but I had to see the casualties for myself. Emma was alive but for some reason wouldn't wake up. None of the original adult elves had died but many were injured. A few of the young adult green elves had died. One, in particular, that cut deep was a green elf I had named Argus. Many here called him "fangs" because his orc and beastman heritage was higher than others. His literal fangs led other children to tease him when he was young.

I remember when he was still a teen being upset at what the other children called him. Sitting next to him I silently waited for him to break the silence.

'They think me little more than a beast!" The boy had said.

My eyes met his as I replied, "I don't think so, they are young and your fangs just stand out to them. We are all unique and just because you have fangs doesn't mean that that's all there is to you. It's just one of the many things that makes you a unique individual. You don't have to let it be what defines you or think of it as something bad."

The boy wiped the tears from his eye's, 'Thank you, teacher. I had never thought of it that way."

"I'm glad I could give you another perspective," I replied.

"I heard in a previous life you had a son. Is that true?" Argus inquired.

"Yes, his name is Trevor," I told him.

"You must have made a really great dad," Argus stated.

"That's not for me to say," I replied while looking at the sky and wondering how Trevor was doing.

...

Again I was filled with great remorse. This child had looked up to me. I had personally tutored him for years and although I was only his teacher, I knew he looked up to me as a father. I crouched on my knees next to Argus's body. I mourned him silently as I felt two hands on my shoulders. One was my mother trying to bring me some level of emotional relief. The other was my father who thanks to my mother's tonics and my Life-force heal had mostly recovered. I didn't need words to know they knew how I was feeling. Argus wielded an ax as his primary weapon because he wanted to be like me.

In one day I had lost several people I cared about the most and nearly lost others. Zotherg and Argus were dead, Emma was in a coma, my father almost died from a poisoned gut wound. Very subtly in the back of my mind, a plan began to form. Right now I was too weak to do anything. Although my perfect memory allowed me to remember what Zothergs soul looked like moments before he dissipated I could not recreate him. Even if I copied the pattern it would still not be him. I would need to first learn and rewrite the laws that created him. Then, I would have to summon the mana that had made up his soul. Last, I would have to perfectly recreate the unique pattern that was him. It could take me thousands if not tens of thousands of years to bring him back. So, it was possible and I would damn well try.

I have no idea if the same was possible for Argus but he too I would try to save. It brought me some level of stability and relief to my mind thinking it was still possible to save them. There's magic in this world after all right? Concerned I hobbled over to Emma. Using Soul hack I found nothing visibly wrong in her status. I used Life-force heal but still, nothing happened.

"What's the matter, my love?" I nudged her. Still, she remained motionless. Slow rise and fall of her buxom that proved she was still breathing was the only real proof she was alive.

"She can't hear you", replied an unfamiliar voice.

I looked back startled at two women as I summoned my ax and held Argus's ax in my other hand. Argus's ax was blue-tinted steel and Elorium alloy. It would serve as a temporary substitute for the one I had destroyed in battle. At that moment I planned to wreck whoever these intruders were.

I stopped as they both said, ' Juren we are not your enemy".

Cautiously I lowered my Axes and replied, "That's for me to decide. Who are you two?"

"I am the Goddes of Love Eva", stated a gorgeous blond woman in an overly revealing red dress.

"I as well am a Goddess. The goddess of fate Tria." said a brown-haired girl wearing a grey gown and a leather blindfold over her eyes.

"I see... I have heard of you before but how can you be here? Gods and Goddesses cannot descend on this world." I inquired.

"We are not really here but simply projecting our image," The two replied in unison.

"Why then are you here? It better not be more of that meddlesome shit like with that steel bear." I demanded.

"Ah... Sorry about that. It's just that without a push you would not have realized how you felt and then our current situation would be even worse. Originally, Emma would have died in this battle. her situation is still severe but she can be saved which is why we are here." Tria The fate goddess lectured.

"How did I knowing I love her change any of this battle's outcome?"

"That's because your father knew and when you shouted for her your father moved to rescue her," Tria explained.

"If this is the best outcome then why won't she wake up?" I inquired.

"That's because her red string of fate skill Eva and I created has been damaged. It was how she bound herself to you and that body. It was never made to be used offensively but Emma found a way to do so," Tria pointed out.

"A broken trait? h... how can such a thing be fixed? " I nervously asked.

"Together we can summon her to our personal realms. She will be safe there and we can slowly repair the skill. While there she cannot die so we will have plenty of time to fix the issue," Tria explained as Eva nodded.

"Then take her but I swear if this is a trick and you bring her harm I will find my way to your realms and shove my weapon right up your arse!" I said more irritated than I had realized I had been.

The two goddesses chuckled," We won't harm her. We are actually quite fond of her."

"Good, just give me a moment with her", I hugged Emma in my arms and whispered int her ear," I will wait for you my love no matter how long it takes". Then I planted a kiss on her lips.

Both of the Goddesses had tears rolling down they're faces and were covering their mouths with their hands.

"What? No seriously What?" I asked.

"Its nothing it is just very moving to see how much you care", Tria said.

...

Then in a flash, Emma was gone as were the image of the Goddesses.

More than ever before I held great hatred for Muiren. I had read that there were other gods that were jerks. Some Gods and Goddesses I knew I could trust on a personal level it seems but those that hadn't helped me I would never rely on.

With the goddesses gone the first thing I did was ask my father about why only a magic-user could inherit the crown. As it turned out the crown is actually a magic artifact made by the Goddess of the elves. It acted as a very powerful magic staff boosting a mages magic greatly. This also still allows one to use a staff as well. Together the king would be a force to be reckoned with even by himself. It was made to only work for one of our bloodline and with my magic, I could bring out its full potential.

Unfortunately, the crown went missing when the humans that stole it was transporting the unuseable crown to their capital. Rumor is that the guards never saw who they're attacker was as if they blended into the trees. As if they were invisible to the human eye.

Well, that info didn't help me much so next I went to my book collection Grillo had gotten for me. Within the unread section of my books, I found the one I was looking for. It was a dark leather bound tome named, " Mythos of The Tablet of Creation. Words of one Labeled Heretic". As I quickly read the contents of the book I realized I had made a huge mistake. Within these pages was a lot of information I had needed to know. I had overlooked it as useless mythology. The Tablet of creation was a man that the goddess of light had made immortal against his will. She too was one of the celestials that could not be trusted. The content that got the author listed as a heretic was that he claimed to have met this man and learned that the Goddess violated him for hundreds of years.

At the Beginning to create Yor the gods and Goddesses received the words of creation from the Creator himself. These words were brought to them by the high gods. Needing a vessel or object to hold the words the gods argued for millennia. None of the gods wished to let another be the vessel as they would be too powerful and few wanted the price that came with being the vessel. Then one individual who was unfortunate enough to fall into a spatial crack appeared before them.

An idea entered the Goddess of light Illuma's head and she asked this mortal, " Oh yee first man to come to our realm. I offer thee a gift. Is there anything thee desire?"

Chocking to death the man simply thought, "I don't want to die!"

He fell right into the goddesses trap. To grant him immortality she branded the words of creation into his body. The brands that never stop burning bringing unfathomable pain. While the brands took hold she used her power to alter his appearance to align with what she preferred and desired. Giving him a body she found beautiful for she planned to make him hers.

However, realizing what was taken and that he was tricked the man hated her deeply. What's more according to the writer at the time this man didn't like women at all. So she again used her power and made him her slave. His body was fully under her control for what would have felt like an eternity. Until one day he broke free and escaped to Yor.

Having read the book I now knew what I needed to do. If I can find the Crown and meet this man called the tablet of creation, then I may be able to find a way to kill gods. At least it would be a start right?

----------------------------------------

Within a rose-colored room slept a beautiful green lady. At both sides of the bed stood a Goddess.

"That felt pretty bad lying to him like that", said Eva to Tria.

"If she stayed there then one of them would have died. You've seen how they throw themselves in harm's way to protect each other", Tria responded.

"Greens gonna be pissed when she wakes up from the dragon sleep", Eva said worriedly.

"It'll be ok, I'll explain once she wakes up that we are keeping him as safe as possible," Tria stated reassuringly.

"So after that, it's a girls night out then?" Eva questioned.

"Girls Night!" Tria agreed throwing her hands in the air.
