Ch. 37 The Fall of the First Born

Muiren struggled to hold me in his grasp as everything around us shook. I took advantage of this chance desperate to get free. His hands were like vices: unmoving and cold to the touch. A punch or a kick to where a normal living being would be vulnerable had little or no effect.

I remembered my ax was soul-bound whatever that meant. It could return to me, right? Like... The ax from a certain individual who likes to say "Boy! Boy! Atreus!" an awful lot. The silly premise aside I was out of options. I thought, "please Titan's Heart come here!"

There was a zooming sound similar to the sound that the falling plane wing that had killed me made. The sound of a large piece of metal moving super fast. Titan's Heart bit its blade into Muirens arm just below the elbow. The injury made the Evil God momentarily lose grip with one hand. His arm was profusely bleeding a black sludge. No being of this world should have something like that inside their veins!

Noticing my ax's changed shape included a small hammer end on the backside an idea popped into my head. I hurriedly grabbed Titan's Hearts handle and turned the hammer end his way. One swift movement later and I put the hammer end directly into Muirens eye. The hammer was perfectly shaped for this task. I broke free as Muiren howled in agony. The injured God failed to get up and balance himself. All of this had occurred in a mere moment.

"You son of a whore! I'm gonna rip your spine out and beat you to death with it!" The now one-eyed snake of a God bellowed.

"Well, I think my not so little friend has something to say about that", I finished saying just as a massive stone fist burst from the ground. The massive fist pounded Muiren through several thick trees. The destruction was catastrophic to the landscape. The ancient elemental wasn't holding back!

Muiren couldn't even fight back! We were going to win! I couldn't shake a sick feeling in my gut though. As the Massive titan of an elemental whose sheer size threatens to block out the sun smashed our foe into the ground I remembered it. That Elemental at his level is forbidden from fighting in our world. The penalty of breaking this is death! Panicking I used [Soul Analyse].

With his full form visible I could analyze him but I was too bothered by my worry to be awestruck right now. I commanded my [Soul Analyse] to dig deeper by saying "Status".

Status (Dying)

Ancient Earth Elemental Zotherg has broken the old laws. Zotherg is actively Dying as the laws no longer hold his form together. Zotherg will soon wither into pure mana. (The spirit of planet Yor already mourns the loss of her son).

My guts wrenching I looked at the old elemental. A truly gentle soul was unleashing his fury on someone that came for me. "Why Zotherg? Why do this for me when it means you'll disappear forever?"

Occupied with smashing the puny God Zotherg replied in [Soul Speak].

"That is because you are my friend and my brother. This vile turd dared to use me to harm my kin. I would rather die than tolerate such insolence."

"How will killing him now stop him when he or other Gods can just come back?" I reasoned.

"That is because vessels like the body he is wearing is beyond rare. Few mortals can survive a God being inside them much less the substance he put in there as well. Also, he put a lot of blessings and curses in to strengthen how much of his Godly powers he could use while here. A full god wouldn't be able to find a vessel as easily as him. There will not be any others for a long time!" Zotherg lectured.

"What will I do without you?" I cried as I watched Zothergs form begin to crumbled and his attacks slow.

"Kid I've known for a while the main reason you're still in this forest is that you couldn't take me with you." Zothergs voice said faintly.

"I never wanted to leave any part of my family behind. What if my supposed destiny never let me return?" I sobbed as Zothergs form withered into a mound of soil.

Using earth magic I dug through the soil towards Zothergs dwindling voice. Eventually, I appeared before a giant round orange crystal the size of a bowling ball. Within it flickered a faint light. This was Zothergs soul stone and I could feel his mana bleeding out from it. I focused my mana control trying to force the leaks to stop. Like the tide of the ocean, its flow could not be stopped by my hands alone. I watched my friend slowly slip away through my fingers.

"Please don't leave! Please!" I said to an empty stone as I rocked back and forth with the only remains of my best friend. Never having believed in Gods I believed in people. With my faith in the masses lost, I learned to believe in good individuals. I trusted Zotherg with my life and he never let me down. Somehow that made this hurt even more.

There was no reply from the dead Elemental. I heard a bloody cough from what looked like a ragged corpse nearby. Looking at the tattered form I recognized it as the cause of my misery! This torso with all its limbs ripped off was Muiren in his vessel. I stood with my aching and worn body. I didn't feel the pain anymore as I shook all over with inner fury. Reaching out with my hand, Titan's Heart entered my palm. I didn't even need to call it this time!
