Floor 1 - Chapter 7

Floor 1 - Chapter 7

I send my perception down into the stairwell looking for the injuired wolf. After going down until right before the entrance into the 1st floor I find the wolf sprawled down on it's side covered in dirt and bruises unconscious on the stairs.

It must have just been laying here after it finally stopped tumbling down the stairs. I doubt it's dead because if it was I would have automatically absorbed the wolf by now just like I did with the 1 above ground.

For now I'll try to appraise its status by willing the system to scan it.

Acknowledged!

Information is below:

Race: Beast Species: Grey Wolf Status: Moderately Injuired (Unconcious) Rank:1 Level: ?? Attribute: ??

I see....... I wonder if I should send some of the Rattata on the floor onto the stairs to finish it? Hmmm........As I am contemplating this course of action the wolf's legs suddenly jerk and it's eye lids twitch.

It looks like it's begining to wake up shortly so I wait to see what actions it takes before deciding on my course of action.

The wolf slowly opens it's eyes and suddenly jumps to its feet, bares its fangs, growling, and starts looking around confused and alert in all directions. When it doesn't see anything in the imediate area it slowly calms down and closes it's mouth.

It sees the light coming from the entrance to the first floor, sniffs the air smelling the grass scent in the air and begins to slowly walk towards it.

When it steps out of the stairway corridor into the floor it momentarily blinks it's eyes several times in confusion due to the brightness of the sunlight on the floor. It then slowly turns its head to take in its new surroundings, looking down from it's vantage point on the stairs at the grassy plain spread about before it.

It slowly walks down the stairs approaching the grass. When it reaches the end of the stairs and takes its first steps on the floor the surrounding grass reaches up about 50-60 cm from the ground, brushing against its belly and just short of reaching the chin of the wolf.

The wolf continues to cautiously make its way through the floor, parting the grass as he walks through. Suddenly their is some movement and rustling in the grass slightly ahead of him towards the right.

The wolf stops advancing and slowly prepares to pounce towards the moving grass as whatever is causing the disturbance starts moving towards the wolf.

The wolf starts to growl in response as the rustling sound and shaking of the grass keeps getting closerand closer. Once it gets within a close enough range the wolf suddenly decides to pounce on the threat.

In response the creature hiding in the grass puts on a burst of speed to reach just underneath the wolf's belly after he jumps up. Then the creature leaps up from beneath the wolf right into the wolf's underbelly with a full force tackle while yelling "Ra-Rattata-Ra!" and revealing it's body to the wolf (and core).

It's one of the purple rat creatures, Rattata, that are scattered on the floor. Good this will be an excellent chance for me to get an idea on how well they can fare against some of the beasts in this world.

After getting hit by the Rattata's tackle the already bruise covered wolf winces in pain before trying to claw at the Rattata with his right forelimb before he gets fully knocked away.

The blow connects with the Rattata causing the bodies of both to be knowked in opposite directions. Hoever due to the size and weight of the wolf's body the distance it was sent was only a couple meters. The distance and time spent being blown away was shortened even more due to the wolf's quick response in reorienting it's body in mid-air so that his legs were facing the ground and were in position to begin clawing into the ground to brace and ancor its body and slow the ensuing inertia. After coming to a complete stop the wolf then shakes its head and body a bit to rid itself of the dizziness of the fall before reorienting its senses, snarling and looking for his prey.

The Rattata, on the other hand, was blown much farther, about several meters, away by the wolf's claw swipe due to their much smaller body size and weight. He was sent flying on a slightly downward angle from the wolf's attack but bounced off the ground 1 or 2 times after the initial crash landing before coming to a stop in a heap of flattened grass and dust that obscured its bruised body.

Taking a quick look at their statuses I check on their injuries.

Race: Beast Species: Grey Wolf Status: Moderately Injuired Rank:1 Level: ?? Attribute: ??

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Moderately Injuired Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

After taking a moment to recover the Rattata shakily gets to it's feet. It's eyes looking towards the wolf in the distance who was searching the grassland for the Rattata. The wolf's ears perks up and he swivels his head to the side before taking notice of the Rattata. Their eyes lock and the wolf proudly raises its head to howls into the sky before running towards his prey. Shortly after the wolf's howl the Rattata also raises it's little head to shout out "Ra-Ratta-Rattata-Ra!!" into the grassland before then scyrrying into the grass to once more hide and prepare an ambush.

After approaching more than halfway nearer to where the Rattata was the wolf starts to search the grass for its prey by randomly swiping and cutting at the grass with it's claws, both to smoke out the hiding Rattata and to create a clearing with shortened grass so that it can no longer hide there. As he is mowing down the grass the wolf is also vigilantly keeping an eye on the grass in the surrounding area making sure to look out for any movement so that it can react quickly.

After a short while has passed the wolf has created a small clearing of shortened grass around itself but suddenly it perks its ears up as it hears something in the distance. "ra.........atta..... ta...rattata!" After straining my ears for a moment I can hear the sounds approaching from in the distance as well. It sounds like other Rattata are gradually approaching the area.

Refocusing my attention back on the wolf I watch as it focuses it's attention back on finding the Rattata. After searching and prowling in a circular motion while widening the clearing of short grass it finally spots some rustling grass a short distance in front of it. When it starts to approach the rustling grass in front of it the wolf notices in the corner of its eyes that the grass on either side of the clearing is also rustling and slowly approaching the area that he is heading towards, likely to intercept the wolf.

The wolf, seeing this, decides to make haste towards his initial target and end it as quickly as possible. It speeds up its run and quickly reaches the area just outside the clearing he made that showed signs of rustling grass in the begining. After reaching within striking distance the wolf immediately swipes low at the grass with its' right foreclaw in an attempt to strike at any creature/s hidden in the grass while simultaneuosly leveling that patch of grass.

The wounded Rattata hiding there, having no choice, immediately leaps out of the grass and beneath the claw swipe to scurry under the wolf's body and between its legs. As it is running beneath the wolf the Rattata then focuses on a leg of the wolf and leaps towards it before then biting down hard on its left back leg with the Rattata's sharp fangs causing a short blood spray around the wound.

The wolf having missed the claw swipe tries to turn its body around in order to catch the Rattata as it goes beneath him but is unable to do so fast enough, likely due to his accumulated exhaustion and wounds, before then being bitten by the Rattata. In response the wolf lets out a loud wounded yelp/whine while staggering slightly to the side due to a loss of balance because of the pain of the bite as well as the inertia of the Rattata's pounce onto the leg.

With the Rattata still painfully clinging onto his leg the wolf gets a very savage look on it's face and tries desperately to buck and shake the Rattata off of himself. Even as the act of putting weight on the bitten leg causes the wolf to wince in pain he powers through it and continues to attempt to persistently and violently shake the Rattata off but the Rattata is just as stubborn and continues to hold on while enduring the shaking.

After a minute or 2 of this violent test of willpower the Rattata is finally shaken loose and is sent tumbling to the ground. After rolling over a few times the Rattata is able to slowly struggle to its feet as the wolf slowly pants to catch his breath and recover some of his energy after having finally been released of the annoying gnat that has been causing him such pain. Once released of the gnawing pain the wolf slowly takes stock of its surroundings after turning to face his prey. In front of him is the wounded Rattata while all of the surrounding grass has either been trimmed down by his claws or trampled and pushed down onto the ground due to his wild movements in trying to shake off the Rattata.

I take a look at the state of the 2 combatants statuses.

Race: Beast Species: Grey Wolf Status: Seriously Injuired (Enraged) Rank:1 Level: ?? Attribute: ??

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Seriously Injuired (Exhausted) Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

During this time both the wolf and the first Rattata notice that they have suddenly been joined by 2 other Rattata, 1 on both the left and the right, that appear from the undisturbed grass on either side of the newly cerated small clearing's boundary. They must have heard the commotion and howls they both released earlier on at the begining part of their confrontation. The newly joined Rattatas, after seeing the bruised and battered shape of their brethren, growl "Ratta!" and show their fangs at the injuired and bloody wolf. They both slowly begin moving in towards the wolf in a circular arc.

I quickly take a look at the statuses of the new Rattata.

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Normal (Enraged) Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Normal (Enraged) Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

The wolf cautiously watches the Rattata approach while panting heavily and spreading it's weight onto his 3 other legs. Due to its injuired and still bleeding leg it cannot move very fast so it seems to be waiting for them to get closer before unleashing a devastatiing attack.

In the meantime the injuired Rattata has remained in its initial position without moving an inch. It appears to be on the verge of fainting with only the slight inflation of his belly showing that it's still alive and breathing. The 2 new Rattata, after circling towards the wolf for a bit, appear to have gotten close enough to the wolf for it to become aggressive as it suddenly attempts to pounce on and bite at the Rattata in front of it while attempting to kick up as much dirt and dust as possible with the jump to blind the Rattata behind it.

The Rattata being pounced at immediately tries to dodge the gaping maw dripping saliva and both claws that are closing in on it by scurrying to the right but is grazed by a claw. On the other hand the 2nd Rattata is sitting upright on the ground trying to get the dust out of it's eyes by blinking frequently and rubbing them with it's paws. As it does this its ears and nose are continually twitching and sniffing the air in an attempt to get as much information on the surroundings as possible.

Both the wolf and the Rattata that barely dodged the pounce slowly recover from their close encounter before then getting up from their prone positions and turning around to face the other. The wolf is now oriented so that his back is facing  the severely wounded Rattata and he now has both of the newly appeared Rattata in his front field of view. The grazed Rattata in front of the wolf suddenly darts towards its side before abruptly changing directions to colide and bite one of the wolf's front legs. The wolf seeing the fangs of the Rattata going towards its leg flinches in remembrance of the pain caused to his still bleed back leg from the fangs of these tiny creatures. The wolf does its best to move out of the way of the approaching Rattata but is hampered due to the pain and exhaustion from the previous clashes.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

With some of the last of his waning strength the wolf makes a last ditch effort, just before the leg is bitten the wolf turns his body slightly and tries to take his own bite out of the midair Rattata with his fangs in an effort to prevent the Rattata from biting the leg by 'catching' it in the Wolf's jaws.  As a result the leaping bite from the Rattata connects with the Wolf's front right leg but not as deeply as thebite he recieved on the back leg. Meanwhile, the wolf's own bite lands on the Rattata as it bites and tries to dig into the wolf's leg. The wolf's maw enclosing over half of the Ratta's body while both creatures are injuired and bleed due to the new wounds, the wolf only bleeding lightly while the Rattata is bleeding heavily.

I take a quick look at the current statuses of the creatures involved.

Race: Beast Species: Grey Wolf Status: Critically Injuired (Exhausted) Rank:1 Level: ?? Attribute: ??

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Seriously Injuired (Tired) Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Critically Injuired (Enraged) Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

Race: Pokemon Species: Rattata Status: Normal (Poor Vision) Rank:1 Level: 5 Attribute: Unattributed (Normal-Type)

The wolf seems to be getting tired from the back-to-back clashes that it has had without any time to recover from its injuries. Right now both the wolf and one of the Rattata are in a deadlock with each one bitting the other hard and refusing to let go.

Suddenly the wolf notices movement ahead of it. It's the Rattata that was blinded with dirt and dust! It seems that it is finally able to see, albeit only just barely given the recent status check I did and the fact that it keeps squinting and blinking it's eyes. Nonetheless it is advancing one paw at a time towards the wolf and his bretheren which has drawn the wolf's attention and raised its guard!.

Then without warning the wolf yelps in pain making it lower its guard from surprise and accidentally releasing his grip on the Rattata he had in it's jaw. The now free Rattata also releases his hold on the wolf's leg due to the pain and relief of being out of the wolf's hold before then falling to the ground next to the wolf and losing consciousness with blood covering its entire body (both his own blood and the wolf's).

The wolf turns his head to his back left leg to see what the cause of the sudden pain was and disovers the first Rattata that he fought with. It is now back in action and gnawing at the wolf's injured back leg with the same fangs that caused the first major wound again.

After not moving for a while the wolf assumed that the first Rattata was dead or fainted so he ignored him to focus on the 2 new full strength and immediate threats that interrupted their battle but it seems that was a mistake. The first Rattata must have caught his breath while the wolf was dealing with the 2 new Rattata and when it could finally move again it immediately joined their '2 Vs 1' fight to make it a '3 Vs 1' and hit the wolf with a surprise attack!

While the wolf was turning his head to stare angrily at the hitch hiker on his back leg the Rattata with poor vision has been gradually gaining more confidence in his vision and awareness, helped in no small part by the sounds of pain and combat from around the wolf. As a result he has been slowly improving his speed of approach before going into a full on sprint to the wolf. "Ratta-Ratta-Ratta!!!" The wolf suddenly hears the noise from the Rattata's approach but before he can fully turn his head back around to deal with it the Rattata is already in front of the wolf.

The Rattata then uses it's momentum from the run to deiliver a powerful tackle right around the base of the wolf's neck. "Rattata!!!!" Feeling the sudden blow and the ensuing pain the wolf is forced off balance. Although he tries to keep upright from the collision the pain and injuries to his body, with the 2 bitten legs being especially weakened, prevent him from catching or bracing his body in any way. As a result the wolf is knocked off of his feet by the tackle from the Rattata and his body is sent sliding and rolling backward along with the Rattata clinging to his back leg, with the Rattata that caused the tackle chasing after them after landing back on the ground.

After sliding and rolling over the ground for about a meter or so, and losing the Rattata that was biting his leg part-way through, the wolf landed on his left side and gasps and coughs for air from the impact to his throat/neck. Then he quickly tries to get up from it's prone position but before he can the Rattata that bit him quickly arrives and lunges for his head. "Ratta-Ra-Rattata!!" Instinctively the wolf tries to swat him away with his right fore paw but the pain of the earlier bite wound causes the wolf to wince and delay his attack allowing the Rattata to reach him.

The Rattata immediately siezes this chance and goes for the wolf's neck and bites down hard with his fangs, spraying blood all over him and causing the wolf to let out a guttural groan. The Rattata that tackled him just now is not far behind and catches up to the first Rattata and wolf shortly "Rattata-Ratta-Ra!"" before then joining his bretheren in bitting at the wolf's neck.

I check their statuses.

After a few moments the wolf goes limp and begins disolving into particles of light which I automatically absorb. Simultaneously the mana in the surroundings now gathers around the wounded Rattatas and they begin healing at a rate visible to the naked eye.

Ding!

Ding!

Ding!

Ding!

Once the wolf is fully absorbed I hear and see a few notification screens but for now I ignore it as I want to see to the healing and recovery of my creatures. I was a bit worried about them towards the end of the battle as I was unsure how they would recover but once the last intruder in my domain was dealt with my instincts as a dungeon seemed to have kicked in again and I was able to instantly get an idea of what to do.

With no other option I trusted the instincts and surrounded them in my mana..I am very pleased by the results as these are my first creatures and after seeing them fight so valiantly I didn't want to watch them die so soon after I summoned them. Soon the Rattata are all back to tip top shape and slightly bigger, though the fainted one is sleeping soundly instead of waking up. Well I'll just leave him to his sleep since he definitely deseves it.

Well now, that was quite an intense battle for my creatures and boy am I proud in how they were able to perform! I won't know for sure how well they fared until after I see a few more conflicts and have more information on the monsters out there in the world but I feel they are pretty strong.

Now then, let's check my current Status, see what changed, and then see what information I was able to gain from these encounters. I think "Show prior and current Status".

Wow it seems a lot has changed during that skirmish. Oh yeah I have a few notifications to look at from both before and after the battles. Maybe they can help explain why? I know 1 of them is related to the summon scroll and 2 are likely related to the absorption of the wolves but I wonder what the others are about?

Well only 1 way to find out for sure. I mentally command the system in my head "Show me the pending notifications I have in order of earliest to latest but exclude the Summon Scroll notification for now!"
