...But Rimorr said (Ch. 11)

Upon stepping on campus grounds today, Amgis can feel the tension in the air. The typical morning buzz now is nothing more than a solid hush. Less students seem to be grouped up and only a few pairs littered the outside walkways.

No one pays him any mind, like usual, but indiscriminatory glares sweep around him from all angles. Making him take a few wider strides to his first period classroom. Whatever is brewing among the North Tron High School students is not something Amgis wants to stand in the middle of.

He reaches his classroom with little trouble, but the atmosphere is not much different. Almost all the students that arrived before Amgis are sitting at their respective desks, quietly. The loudest voices in the room were surprisingly two teachers. His first period teacher, Ms. Ang, and a male teacher he has only seen in passing a few times. He heard from Mia that they have started to date recently.

A shame for the entirety of the North Tron high school student body, as they are both attractive individuals. Especially Ms. Ang, who is known for her sexy librarian look. Now the hormonal boys won’t know who to gawk over during lunch period.

Amgis can almost see some boys shooting lasers at the male teacher as he is talking to Ms. Ang at her desk. Their conversation, unsurprisingly, involves a certain mystical mirror.

“Rimorr talked to the guy in front of me a lot longer than it talked to me,” Ms. Ang complains. “It’s not fair. I waited for a full hour after school.”

The male teacher pats her back sympathetically. An action that makes every guy sheath in envy.

“Yeah, I know. Oh, and I heard that Rimorr was the one who told Mr. Clean to quit. Something about it helping him realize his dreams.”

A few aghast murmurs overtook the room from that tea bit of information. Mr. Clean is beloved by many of the North Tron High School students, so his sudden decision to quit has caused great sadness.

“Hey, have you seen Bear today? I need to ask him something,” Dahc says upon approaching Amgis, who is sitting at his desk.

A few moments pass before Amgis realizes he was asked a question. An auditory gasp escapes his lips when he looks up to see Dahc. Trying to hide his surprise, he acts as if his gasp was a cough. His apparent “rival-in-love” is not someone he ever expected to approach him. Especially not to learn the whereabouts of his friend, Bear.

“No, sorry,” Amgis says after collecting himself. “He probably fell asleep somewhere or forgot to wake up today.”

Dahc frowns from disappointment.

“If you see him, let me know.”

He walks away without another word. Leaving Amgis to think, not that he cares, that Dahc does not seem like his normal self.

“Get away from me, you bitch!”

A dramatic scene in the English building hallway is unfolding as Amgis leaves his class. To not interfere or get involved, he stops in his tracks. Every student in the hallway stops. Some act like they aren’t listening, while others are rather shameless in their staring. Their attention was drawn to the drama as if it were a movie.

“No, wait!” the girl with glasses pleads. “Please, just listen to me!”

The girl with a hat flips around flamboyantly, fire in her eyes. She steps towards her friend so that their faces are inches apart. Her friend, reactively, takes a step back. Realizing too late that she has awakened a beast.

“No! You betrayed me. I told you to never tell anyone my secret, and I trusted you. But what did you do? One person would have been bad enough, but you went ahead and blurted it out to a whole crowd!”

“I—” the girl with glasses shrivels. Knowing that no matter what she says, her friend won’t forgive her.

The girl with a hat scoffs at her friend’s pathetic appearance.

Without a hint of remorse, she laces her next words with poison, and says, “Get out of my sight. Don’t talk to me.”

The girl with glasses falls to her knees, tears welling up in her eyes as her friend exits the English building without her.

Many seconds later, everyone in the hallway moves again. Not daring to approach too closely to the weeping girl on the floor while they whisper amongst each other about the unfolded events.

Amgis goes to pass the girl with glasses as well, but stops when he hears these three words silently and painfully leave her mouth…

“...But Rimorr said.”

“Is it just me or is everyone acting weirder than normal?” Mia says to Amgis at their lunch table, patting the girl with glasses’s back—who is still uncontrollably weeping.

“I’m worried about Rimorr. There’s whispers circulating about it that don’t sound too good… And now this. We should go visit it.”

Amgis nods in agreement.

“Let’s go after school.”

“Amgis!” Rimorr says with his reflection. “Mia!” With her reflection. “How are you two? It’s been a while.”

Now, you may be wondering how they got into the bathroom together, considering it’s against the rules that the Principal set a few days ago, but that’s a rather uninteresting story for another time. Just accept for now that Amgis and Mia were able to get in through some underwhelming means, and are now in the presence of Rimorr once again.

“We’re good… Are you controlling both of our reflections at the same time now?” Mia asks with amazement.

“Yeah, pretty cool, right? With the amount of people visiting me recently, I figured I needed a way to talk with more people at once. So far I’ve only figured out how to keep the two reflections under my control, and I,” it switches to Amgis’ voice, “Can only,” then switches back to Mia’s voice, “Speak with one reflection at a time.”

Both Mia and Amgis have an impressed look on their face as they watch their reflections do the wave dance move with their arms.

“I see,” Mia quickly gets back to business. “How has talking to so many different people been going?

“It’s awesome! I’ve been learning so much and everyone is so interesting.”

Both reflections wear gleaming smiles with not a hint of falseness hidden behind their teeth. Amgis uncertainly glances at Mia, probably trying to see if that answer satisfies her worries. One look at her affirms him that it does not. He smiles. His worries aren’t extinguished yet either. After a brief pause, Mia continues the questioning.

“Do you like that people are coming to you for advice?”

“Advice?”

Mia and Amgis blink in sync—trying to gauge if Rimorr is joking or not. After several silent seconds, they gather that it is completely serious. Neither knows if that is a good or bad thing. Both try to think of an answer. Amgis responds first.

“It’s like telling people what they should or shouldn’t do.”

“I know, but… I guess I do that,” Rimorr reluctantly agrees, “but I’m only trying to get people to realize their true desires. That’s what’s really fun.”

“Yeah, but that might be the issue. We aren’t entirely sure why, but we’ve been hearing and seeing some unsavory things that seem to have originated from your advice.”

“Unsavory? Like bad stuff?” Rimorr clarifies.

Mia and Amgis hesitantly nod.

‘No, that doesn’t make sense,” it steps back in defensive. “Everyone leaves happy after talking with me. I guide them toward their desires. Like how I did with you two.”

Both Amgis’ and Mia’s reflections reprimand with their voices at the same time. Amgis doesn’t seem phased, but Mia gasps and tries to retreat.

“We weren’t saying it is your—”

“No,” Amgis cuts Mia off. “It is. I know you didn’t mean to Rimorr, but you’re causing trouble for everyone here. You need to be more careful.”

Rimorr doesn’t respond. It looks at Mia to see if she has something to add. Hoping to find someone who will defend its actions. But her eyes are pointed towards the floor.

“Hey guys, the teacher is coming back.” With eyes half-shit, Bear peaks his head in, breaking the uncomfortable silence.

“Just be careful. Okay,” Mia says before walking out of the bathroom.

Amgis stares at Rimorr for a few more moments.

“We’ll be back,” he says before following Mia out.

Rimorr fails to respond. With betrayal written on both reflections’ faces…

…The door slams open.

“Or, actually. I really need to use the toilet. I’ve been holding it this entire time.”

Amgis rushes to the stall, hand grasping his stomach, and unleashes another mighty barrage moments later.
