Town Class
Named after the historical town class, these ships were being drawn up when the unification efforts were still pre federation, and as such were made with exclusively British names. The ships were designed with the at the time, in development gravity plating in a forward thinking move to allow for a more compact ship design.
The ship’s weapons are made up of dual missile tubes, a spinally mounted heavy railgun and two light railguns turrets. This armament is somewhat light by more modern standards, however, it still packs a punch especially with its high-grade ballistics computers.
This class was the first ship designed by BAE to use the new NASA developed heat recycling systems. These allow for increased thermal efficiency and to allow for longer periods with the main radiators closed in combat position without the ship overheating. This is done by linking all of the heating and cooling systems together to one heat exchanger, allowing heat for life support, for example, to be drawn from the heat generated by the computer banks. Though this has become standard on all newer ships.
The class does however lack the more extensive EWAR and drone capabilities that other IFC light cruisers carry. This does leave it more dependent on its CIWS weapons for missile defence and reduces the ship’s ability to jam enemy RADAR.
