The King class is the first fully 3rd generation warship constructed with artificial gravity generators, hyperspace drives, fusion reactors and advanced composite armour. It is specifically a US design, built at the end of the unification war, with one example of the class in fact serving in the final battle. The class is named after Ernest J. King with all ships in the class bearing the names of US admirals.

The destroyer itself is built to be more of an escort asset to the heavy cruisers also under development at the same time. Providing recon, fire support and anti-missile defence. The vessels do have considerable anti-ship offensive value as well with its quad missile tubes.

One unique armament on the King class is the M-3 “Spiker” drone. This drone is an electronic warfare drone meant to jam enemy RADAR and communications and act as decoys with additional capabilities to scramble enemy missiles. The capacity onboard for such drones are limited however due to the ship’s small size and the relatively large size of the drones. The Spiker, does however, have a rather long range with much higher mobility when compared to classic probe style EWAR drones that act more as stationary assets.

The ships had an initial order of fourteen but was upped to eighteen after the founding of the IFC. The ships therefore made up a good portion of the early IFC destroyer fleet, earning a highly respected reputation as versatile escorts.
