CHAPTER 358
"Clayton, I have realized my mistakes. Please don't go!" Penny struggled to get up from the ground and staggered as she ran over to her brothers while wailing, "Clayton, I was young and foolish back then to be deceived by Walter. I realize that I'm wrong now…" She chased after Clayton and tried to grab onto his arm.
Noticing that, Colton turned around and kicked her on the stomach and growled, "Get lost! The Walker Family does not welcome a brute like you! We don't ever want to see you again!" Colton and Clayton avoided her like the plague.
Penny hugged her stomach in pain and curled up in a ball as she lay on the ground while crying hysterically. She finally knew what it felt like to lose everything she had in less than a day, while experiencing both helplessness and hopelessness at the same time.
Her husband wanted to divorce her, and her family wanted to cut ties with her. Even her own sons seemed indifferent when they watched her suffer. After today, she had been alienated by her family and was left homeless.
When Penny was crying her eyes out, Madeline's phone rang. After looking at her phone, she whispered to Sebastian, "Leigh is here." Hearing that, he nodded and signaled for her to take matters into her own hands.
"Mr. Eddie, my friend has just arrived. I'll go get her." Madeline stood up and told Eddie.
"Sure." He nodded.
Soon after she left the living room, she came back with Leigh.
Jennifer's eyes lit up when she noticed Leigh and immediately went up to her. "Dr. Shefford, are you willing to treat my daughter's illness?"
"Sure." She smirked. "But with a condition!"
"Just name it!" Jennifer exclaimed. "As long as you are willing to treat my daughter's illness, we will agree to any of your conditions."
"It sounds good." Leigh glanced over at Penny who was curled up on the ground and continued, "I only have one condition, and that is for her to be arrested by the police. If you can get it done, I'll treat your daughter's illness. Otherwise, it'll be the end of our discussion!"
"Get the police to arrest her? Why?" Jennifer was puzzled.
Brandon, who was calmer than Jennifer, responded politely, "Dr. Shefford, please take a seat and we shall discuss it."
Since Leigh was willing to go there, it meant that there was room for negotiation. However, it was unlikely that they would call the cops to arrest Penny since it concerned the Penham Family's reputation.
What Penny did was so embarrassing that if it was known by the public, the Penham Family would be embarrassed. Thus, they would do their best to keep it within themselves.
If they got the police involved, the scandal would start spreading, and everyone would eventually find
out about it. On top of that, Penny was his nephew's mother, and it would make them look bad if their mother was jailed. Thus, the Penham Family would never get the police involved to safeguard their family's reputation and to avoid his nephews from being judged.
Since Leigh agreed to be there, it meant that matters could be discussed. If it was a condition that they couldn't fulfill, they could get her to come up with another condition. Madeline then got Leigh to sit on a couch.
"Dr. Shefford, no matter what has happened, Penny is my nephews' mother. It was indeed wrong of her to abandon my niece, but since this concerns my family and nephews' reputation, we will not get the police involved. However, rest assured that my brother has decided to divorce her, and she will get the punishment she deserves."
"Yes, what you said about this being the Penham Family's matter makes sense." Leigh smirked. "Mr. Penham, aren't you curious about my presence at your house and why I'm meddling in your family's business, though?"
Hearing that, Brandon took a guess and replied, "Is it because Ava humiliated your nephews? If it's because of that, you don't have to worry as we will kick her out of the family and cut ties with her since she isn't of the Penham Family's lineage. We will not be giving her any money, so it doesn't matter to us if she ends up dead or alive. Please be rest assured."
"Is that so?" Leigh glanced over at Bryson, Austin, and Justin. "What are your thoughts? Are you planning to kick Ava out and sever ties with her?"
The three of them were lost for words and didn't know what to answer. Even though they were aware that Ava was Walter's daughter, they had lived together for the past twenty years as a family. It wouldn'tContent is property © .
be easy to disassociate with someone whom you had grown up with for two decades, after all.
What happened back then was all meticulously planned by Walter and Penny. Ava was merely a baby who didn't know about anything at that time. After finding out about the truth, they wouldn't be as nice to Ava as before. It was not that they didn't want to target their anger at Ava; it was just that the family ties that they had built for the past twenty years couldn't be severed that easily.
"See, they can't do it." Leigh smiled.
"We will split our family with them!" Jennifer sputtered. "We will put up a notice in the newspaper to announce that our family will be splitting from Bryson's family, and both families will not have any form of contact in the future! Dr. Shefford, please, you have to save our daughter. I'm begging you!"
"Dr. Shefford, please save our sister!" Lewis said as tears welled up in his eyes. "Ava likes to bully my sister, and we hate her to the core!"
"If that's the case—" Leigh smirked and looked at Brandon. "If you can write me a handwritten letter of guarantee about what your wife had just said, I will promise to save your daughter."
"Brandon!" Jennifer grabbed onto his sleeve anxiously.
When Brandon saw how desperate his wife was, he didn't hesitate for long and nodded. "Alright, I'll write the letter!"
"Brandon! Do not write it!" Eddie roared angrily.
If Brandon wrote the letter and cut ties with Bryson's family, it would mean that the Penham Family
would fall apart and be ridiculed by others if they found out about it.
"Dad, I'm sorry. As a father, I will do whatever I can to save my daughter. I cannot just sit back and watch Luna die!" Brandon looked at Eddie and said.
"Nonetheless, you shouldn't cut ties with your brother! Do you think that he's not unfortunate enough? Are you trying to hit him when he's down?" Eddie reprimanded Brandon before looking over at Bryson. "Aren't you going to chase Ava out of your house? What are you waiting for? I know that you have raised her for the past twenty years, but she is the daughter of your wife's lover. Don't you feel humiliated by it at all?"
Bryson, who was being berated by Eddie, was so embarrassed that he just wanted to crawl into a hole. What his father said was right; even though he had raised Eva for the past twenty years, she was still the daughter of Penny's lover. He would be reminded of it every time he saw Ava. Even if he still cared for her, he would no longer be able to treat her like before.
"Alright…" He nodded and said, "I will cut ties with Ava and chase her out of the house."
"It's too late for you to say that now!" Leigh scoffed. "Whether or not you want to cut ties with Ava is your business. If Brandon wants me to treat Luna, he will have to cut ties with you. Otherwise, it will be the end of our discussion!"
"Why is that so?" Bryson was bewildered after hearing what she said.
