Chapter 5: Beast Spirit 1st Gate
Afterwards we continued to grind for the rest of the afternoon. At the end, everyone in our group reached level 9. Finishing off the last few monsters, we went to the campsite where everyone will stay for the night.
While walking, I experimented on the status screen. I noticed when I got [Ki Manipulation] some parts of the status screen changed. Also, a title system was implanted. Just now, I thought that an inventory command might work, but alas there was none.
Upon returning to the camp, we reported our progress to the guides and were told that only 7 others reached level 9. There was even someone who reached level 10, although he didn’t tell because it’s rude to openly tell one’s information without the person in question’s permission.
To get used to traveling, everyone has to take care of their own camp chores such as cooking and taking night shifts.
After finishing dinner, the guides told us to gather for a lesson.
……………………
Guide 1: “Alright, everyone here.”
Kids: “HERE!”
Guide 2: “Ok everyone, today’s lesson will be on the Gate system. Gate is a term for every ten levels between level 1-100. Upon reaching the Gate levels: 10, 20, 30, etc. you will not be able to level up unless you absorb a beast spirit.”
Did I hear correctly? Is this Douluo Dalu or something?
Guide 1: “A beast spirit is the soul of a monster. When one reaches a Gate level, you will be notified you that you can absorb the beast spirit of the monster you defeated. You can choose, but you cannot change beast spirits. The only thing that matters in a beast spirit is it’s abilities, not level. So a level 1 [Dragon] is obviously a better choice than a level 100 [Slime].”
Guide 2: “Also, depending on your affinities, there will be some monsters not compatible with you. Don’t worry about this because the notification window will tell your adaptability with the spirit. You can’t absorb a spirit with less than 20% adaptability. It is extremely hard to find monsters with good adaptability, unless you’re a beastmen with a similar race.”
Guide 1: “So tomorrow, everyone should aim to reach the 1st Gate. The next few days you will look for a suitable beast spirit. Dismissed.”
And thus ended our first day of training camp.
…………………
Our group finished pitching our tent. All of us will sleep together.
Ah, time to sleep.
…
…
Rudy: “Hey guys, what do you want to talk about?”
Ruka: “I dunno, but lets stay up all night.”
Rudy and Runa: “YEAH!”
Noooo, my beautiful sleep.
…………………
Ah, so tired.
How do kids have so much energy. They actually stayed up the whole night, and they even have energy to spare.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Ah, I feel like I’m gonna fall asleep. I need to clear my head.
Clear my mind.
…
…
…
*Ping
Huh? What was that?
You have acquired a new skill: Calm Mind
Because of prior knowledge of the skill, the skill proficiency is raised to Intermediate Lv: 7 (73%).
Calm Mind [Rank A] Intermediate Lv: 7 (73%).
Recovers mental fatigue and helps keep composed even when enraged or under pressure.
Increases MP Recovery by 0.007% per sec.
Ooh, what a convenient skill. The MP Rec is not as important as the clear fatigue. Technically, if I level up this skill, it may mean I might not need to sleep.
Oh, I was so fixed on the notification screen that I didn’t notice that we were already in the middle ring.
Rudy: “Hey, princess. Stop standing around and lets go already.”
Soula: “Don’t call me princess! I rather be a busboy than a princess.”
Rudy: “Busboy?”
Soula: “Ah never mind, lets just go already.”
Runa: “Umm, hey guys. Where’s Ruka?”
Soula: “What! Ruka’s gone.”
Rudy: “Oh, I know where she is. She’s at the core area.”
Soula: “SHE’S AT THE WHAT!!! WHY WOULD SHE GO THERE? AND HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT!?!”
Rudy: “She told me just a while ago. She said the monsters are too weak in the middle ring and wants to see if the BOSS is also weak.”
Why are these kids so childish. Well, it’s cause they’re children, but that’s not the point!
Soula: “Runa, go notify the adults that Ruka went into the core area. Rudy, come with me. Were going to get your sister.”
Rudy & Runa: “Roger.”
As we separate, I desperately hope that the hiding adults already stopped her. Rudy took me to where he saw Ruka leave, and then both of us started to run after her trail.
We followed her scent as we ran on her path. This is one of the perks of being a beastman, as well as increased fitness.
After running for about 20 minutes, we heard someone scream. Stopping immediately, both Rudy and I tune out the surrounding sounds to concentrate on which direction the scream came from.
Soula: “That way.”
We jump pass the last few trees and entered the core area.
