A Book, a Pouch, and a Cage. Chapter 3.

Drip... Drip... Drip...

The sound of water dripping is constant as Steven is finally awoken from his stupor and his body aches everywhere.

Steven groggily gets up and holds his right hand on his head as the throbbing pain from before might be subsiding, but that doesn't mean it has completely vanished.

Drip... Drip... Drip...

The dripping sound is coming from behind Steven and it is fairly irritating to him as his heightened senses increase the solitary sound many times over compared to the regular person.

Steven gives his head a good final shake and he opens his eyes. The room is dark but Steven can feel his irises adjust to the darkness and soon the man can see fairly better in the dark compared to before he came to this world. Amazed at the augmentations to his vision and hearing, Steven can only gawk at his own body as it is fairly different than before.

All of his tattoos are missing yet every scar he acquired before is still there. There is also the fact that he is sitting on a wooden floor completely naked. Steven looks at the room around him and can see 4 wooden walls that are 15' away from the center of the room and shelves litter the walls.

On top of every shelf is a different type of herb that has a small name tag written on the pot the herb is planted in. The room also has a bed; a circle made of stones with some ashes in the middle of it; and a desk with a book, a weird looking cage, and a large leather pouch on top of it.

Steven shakily gets up on his feet and he can feel the blood rush to his head and he feels as if he is going to faint soon. This is also the accompanied by the pain in his stomach as Steven can feel hunger ruthlessly tearing at his insides.

The wobbling man slowly walks towards the desk with each step sending a faint yet sharp pain through his legs. As Steven finally makes it to the desk, he picks up the large book and blows on it, sending the dust covering the face of the book in several directions.

Opening to the first page, Steven is met with a language he has never seen before, yet he feels very familiar with. After staring at the strange writing for some time, Steven's brain is finally able to decrypt the foreign language due to an unknown force.

'Amatsu Xan, if you are reading this then that means my mission was successful and I have brought you back to your home planet, but it also means that I cannot explain everything to you or introduce you to anything in this world. I have confidence that with the blood running through your veins that you will be able to succeed in this world as much as I, your father, has.'

'If you look to the left of where you found this book, you will see a strange looking cage with a small glass cylinder inside of it. This will be one of your most helpful tools and will guide you through many dangerous times. Inside of the glass cylinder lies a small group of Scoutflies, there is a page in this book that will explain what they do and how to use them.'

'If you look to the right of where you found the book, there will be a leather pouch. Inside of this pouch is a Charge Blade. It will take you a while to master this weapon but I have faith in you son. There will also be several sets of clothes that range in different sizes depending on how long it took me to get the power to summon you back into this dimension.'

'This is all I can give you for now and you will by yourself for the time being. I wish you luck on making your first contract and I will leave you a quest to work forwards to. Find a woman with the title 'Third Fleet Master' and tell her your name. She will be able to explain more and guide your way into finding me.'

'I am excited to see what you do Amatsu. Do not disappoint me. - Your Father, Quasar Xan.'

Steven looks the aging page over a few times and nods his head. As he closes the book and sets it down, his eyes are filled with resolve and he picks up the leather pouch.

He is truly curious about how this pouch that is no longer than 1 foot long and 1 foot wide and how it can house a weapon and several sets of clothes.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Untying the top of the pouch, Steven sticks his hand inside and feels nothing, not even the bottom or sides of the bag.

'I don't feel anything but I at least hope there is a pair of pants in here that can fit me.' Steven thinks to himself before continuing deeper into the bag.

Sticking his arm in further, Steven feels nothing until he is near shoulder deep within the bag, and then he feels a soft and silky substance.

Pulling out what his hand has grabbed, a pair of pants appear. Holding the pants up and putting the bag down, Steven can tell that this pair of pants would most likely fit him and so he tries them on.

As the cloth touches his legs, Steven can feel a comfortable coolness spread throughout his legs. Steven decides that there should be a matching outfit to the pair of brown pants and once again sticks his hand into the dark hole of the pouch.

This time is different though, as Steven's whole arm is enveloped inside the leather pouch, nothing comes within his grasp. With a confused and slightly annoyed expression on his face, Steven feels around the bag for a long time but finds nothing.

'I wonder where the rest of the clothes are... Wait.'

As Steven began to wonder about the rest of the outfit's location, a slightly familiar soft substance brushes his hand and he quickly grabs it.

With the piece of clothing inside of his hand, Steven immediately rips his arm out of the bag as if it was planning on taking the clothing away from him if Steven kept his arm in their for too long.

Looking at the clothing he pulled out, Steven can see it is a dark brown long sleeve shirt that matches his pants and he quickly puts it on.

'Hmm. It seems that if I think about an item inside of the bag, it gives it to me, but if you don't think about any item inside of the bag then it does not give you any items. Not a bad security device if it gets stolen and a thief gets their hands on it but doesn't know what's inside. I wonder how it works though or what words trigger certain items to come out.' Steven concludes to himself while giving the bag an amazed and approving gaze.

Steven once again sticks his hand inside of the bag and decides to push the limits of the bag.

'Give me the most valuable item.' Steven commands the bag through his thoughts.

......

Nothing. Nothing comes into Steven's hands.

'Give me the biggest item you have.' Steven once again commands the bag through his mind and once again nothing comes into his grasp.

'Give me the remaining pieces to this outfit.'

Steven's hand is brushed by another piece of clothing and he grabs onto it and pulls it out. A long cloak with a hood attached comes out of the bag and it seems to be made of a sturdier material compared to the shirt and pants. Steven quickly puts it on and sticks his hand once more inside the miracle bag.

'Anything else?' Steven asks being as vague as possible. Soon, his hand meets something that feels like metal and he pulls it out, revealing that he had grabbed onto a metal belt buckle with a belt attached to it.

Steven puts on the belt and notices that the belt is not made for just holding up past as there are many places for items to be attached to it, there is currently nothing extraordinary attached to it though.

Still baffled about how useful and magical this bag is, Steven sticks his hand into the bag and asks 'Anything else?' until the bag stopped giving him items. Finally, Steven pulled out 3 more items before the bag stopped giving the amazed man anything more.

The other three items Steven received was a chest holster for an unknown weapon; a pair of metal gauntlets with two glistening horns protruding from the right gauntlet and a 3 pronged hook was sticking out of the left gauntlet; and finally a pair of leather boots that seem to have some hidden contraptions inside the tip of the boots but Steven cannot figure out how to get it to work.

Steven does not know what weapon the holster belongs to so he decides against putting it on for now.

After putting on his gauntlets and boots, Steven recalls his father mentioning a weapon called a 'Charge Blade' and Steven figures it is inside of the heavenly pouch that was bestowed upon him.

Reaching into the bag, Steven asks it 'Give me the Charge Blade' and soon his hand grabs onto the hilt of something. As Steven pulls it out, the entrance to the pouch expands greatly and out comes a thick and heavy sword stuck inside of an even heavier and thick shield.

Steven pulls out the sword and holds it in his right hand. The sword's handle, which is fairly thin and long, is holding up a thick blade that has 5 small circles of glowing orange light pulsating in it. The sword is a dark grey color with red accents that are brimming with energy.

The shield is the same grey color and has 6 small circles surrounding a cross in the middle of the shield. The edges of the shield look to be just as sharp as the sword but neither of the two look that sharp. In all honesty, to Steven, it looks like the two weapons are rather dull.

Steven looks back to the book and feels that there will be more information inside of the book his father has written, or at least he hopes. Putting the sword back into the sheath that is inside of the shield, Steven looks over to the circle of rocks and can now notice a small basket next to it.

Steven's nose picks up a faint yet drifting smell coming from the closed basket and it tempts him as it smells like meat. Steven's stomach grumbles loudly and he smiles widely as something tells him there is definitely food inside of the basket and he walks over with eyes full of hunger.
