"John, hey John wake up."
"Ugh, five more minutes" John mumbled before rolling over.
"Oi sleepy head get up."
John slowly cracked his eyes open ever so slightly and saw an unfamiliar place.
"Ugh where am I?"
"Umm Asyath Serin, how can you not remember?"
John turned his head towards the voice but saw nothing but a painting on the wall of a little elf girl pouting at him.
"Elmyra is that you?"
"Do you know any other beautiful elves who can talk to you from pictures?" Elmyra asked.
"No." John replied.
"Then yes it's me, come on get up."
"What time is it?"
"It's already noon, you already missed breakfast."
"What! noon? I need to get to work." John said, bolting up suddenly full of energy.
"Work what work?" Elmyra asked.
"I am still working at the construction site." John replied, climbing out of bed before realizing something and looking back.
"Wait a bed? Ohhh I am in Asyath Serin." John said as the realization of everything that happened yesterday sank in.
Not long after Thasinia showed him to his room she left to go finish her research on the new data she got from the MK 0.
Before leaving she told John to get some rest as he looked tired.
John had to agree with her because he had not slept since his flight over to the central continent on the plane and that was only really a light nap.
As soon as the realization hit him, so did the tiredness.
He barely managed to get undressed before he collapsed onto his bed and fell asleep.
It was only now he realized that he had slept in a bed for the first time in eleven years and what a big bed it was.
He did not know what special name the bed had; all he knew was that it could easily fit half a dozen people in it with room to spare.
"So, what's this construction job you have?" Elmyra asked curiously.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
"Oh, that was back in Dawnscape City, I used to work construction to make money to eat." John started to explain to Elmyra about his life before coming here since she did not know the story.
As he spoke, he walked around the room opening cupboards and drawers to see if there was anything he could wear.
Unfortunately, they were all empty before he remembered Alea saying something about going shopping at some point.
"What am I supposed to wear before I can buy new clothes?" John thought out loud.
"Yeah, you need something." Elmyra agreed before continuing.
"Personally, I would not mind you walking around like that in just your underwear, but these young elves have funny ideas about that." she said before giggling.
"Very funny, I guess I will take a shower before throwing my old clothes back on." John said before heading for the bathroom.
"Wow, how do you even work this thing?" Elmyra heard him say from the bathroom before.
"Oh, there we go."
It took John a few minutes to have a shower before he came back out drying his hair.
"So why did you wake me up Elmyra, something wrong?"
"Not really, I was just bored, and I heard you have not eaten yet having missed breakfast so I figured you should get some food."
"I see, I am hungry, thanks for thinking about me."
"No probs, I am your big sis after all." Elmyra replied while puffing out her chest with her hands on her hips.
John just smiled at her before getting dressed in the clothes he had thrown on the floor last night.
He did not really want to wear them again today since he was now in a palace but what could he do?
When he was dressed, he looked at Elmyra who had been watching him the entire time with no shame and shook his head before leaving the bedroom to head for the kitchen.
"Hmm let's see what's here, Thasinia did say there should be food in the kitchen.
As John entered, he saw a modern kitchen with all the latest cooking equipment.
"Seems strange having a kitchen with an oven in a try."
"What's so strange about it? Elves have to eat too and unlike those stories from all those years ago we don't only eat fruit and berries."
"Hmm do elves eat meat? I always heard rumors that you're all vegetarians." John asked
"Not true, we do eat meat, we are just not as cavalier in the way we acquire our meat unlike the other races."
"Where most of the other race's will just kill a pig or a sheep or whatever when they want meat and cook it up, we only kill what we absolutely need, and when we do take the life of an animal there is a special way."
"What way?" John asked now, pulling out bacon and sausages and other things from the fridge.
"As Tanelia explained to you yesterday we elves believe we came from Yggdrasil..."
"Don't you know? I mean you were the first elf." John interrupted to ask.
"Do you remember when you were born?" Elmyra asked back in a pout.
"Good point sorry."
"Hmph, anyway we don't just believe we came from Yggdrasil, but all life does, so when we take a life or when one of our own dies which is rare since we don't die of old age, we say a prayer over their body to help guide their souls back to Yggdrasil."
"What prayer?" John asked.
"Yggdrasil amillë pronoun illi, lmë entulessë Onnalda ana lye. Hiro hyn hîdh ab 'wanath" Elmyra spoke.
"Yggdrasil, mother of us all, we return your child to you. May they find peace after death." John translated getting a smile from Elmyra.
"Well done, I heard you speak our language before, but I did not realize you were so fluent." Elmyra said and before John could answer another voice said.
"Neither did I, what was that about you not being very good at the Elvish language John?"
As they both looked towards the door where they saw Alea walking in.
