The next few days, I spent my time mapping the city. I accidentally nearly bumped into him that night after he told us that he goes out to venture around the city all the time. I just tried to see if he was telling the truth and I did not expect to meet him at all. I would be an idiot if I did not understand what he meant by those words. We can take it as something to mislead us, but it wasn’t the case.
His existence intrigues me. I have never been this intrigued my entire life about someone I barely even know but after what we have seen inside the city hall, I can feel something inside me that wants me to know more about him. Not just what the public knows, a deeper understanding of what kind of man he is.
I spent my nights mapping and following him to all the places he goes to, and I spent my mornings trying to carry out an investigation about his background. And just as I have already expected, nothing comes up. I may be overthinking it, but I think someone is purposely erasing any information about him.
That left me at a loss, and as I was considering the idea of giving up because of the dead end, an idea struck my mind. Something that I should have thought of ages ago. He calls House Valter head senior. With that clue, I decided to shift my attention to House Valter head, Faram Valter, whose name is prominent throughout the entire city for years in the past.
‘If it’s the Valter House head, there should be at least a record about him, right?’
That’s the thought that came to my mind. And because of that, I tirelessly searched the entire library for any records about the past regarding Master Faram’s past. I thought it was an easy task but I was very wrong.
“I’m terribly sorry, Lady Aira but those are not something that you can easily access without prior permission from the owners. Although the archives are kept within the library, you need at least the permission of someone with higher authority to be able to access such information.” The librarian told me.
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
“I understand. Sorry for causing you any trouble.” I bowed my head and got out of the library.
That was the response I got from her and I wasn’t expecting that at all. I thought it was the kind of information that I can access so easily, but it turns out I was wrong yet again.
When I got home, my father was already waiting in front of my room. Just by looking at the stern look on his face, I can tell that he already heard of what I was doing.
“I heard you came by the library earlier and requested for certain information about Faram Valter. Is there any reason why you did that?”
“I just want to know about his relationship with that man.” I told my father.
He gave me a surprised look. Was he not expecting such a response from me?
“His relationship, huh? I don’t really know about his ties with that man, but if you’re really curious, you just have to ask me, you know?”
Right. Father is from the same generations as Master Faram Valter, so he must have information about him just like the ones hidden in the library.
“Father, can you tell me everything I want to know?” I asked,
For the very first time, ever since the incident, my father smiled. He then brought me to his office and served coffee and some snacks.
“This…. is this necessary?”
Coffee and snacks are a staple in long conversations in our city. For father to serve me this means the story will be longer than I expected.
“This will be a long conversation and since I don’t have any schedule for today, we can take our time,” said father.
Father and I don’t really do this often but to think that he’s looking forward to telling me everything I need to know about Faram Valter. Before we got started, the door to father’s office opened, and to my surprise, mother walked inside bringing more snacks.
“You don’t mind joining you in this, right? It’s been a long time since the three of us have gathered to talk, after all,”
Wearing a gentle smile, mother sat beside me. With more snacks and company, father started our long talk. He fed me everything I wanted to know about Master Faram Valter and even went as far as to tell me the story that only a few nobles knew from the past.
