Magicians are those who have been taught the arts of magic, both mundane and warlike. Though technically anyone can learn magic those at common level(majority of the population) are never taught magic. Most people can become magier as long as they work though most who try are at least seedling grade, hedge magi grade for those who wish to use the free magi terms. Those with common grade can do it but most guilds and free magi refuse to teach them unless they are able to give them a good reason ie ’the power of money’. Beside being rigorous taught those who are born as sprout grade are considered natural magier and are usually more powerful than those on the same power level. Their growth is slow but explosive in strength, allowing most to cast spells both more powerful and more often then the ‘trained magier. They tend to get snapped up by mage guilds or experienced free magi due to their potential but the ‘explosive’ part is no joke, rates of self-destruction are rather high for them if they can’t learn enough control.
The Free Magi ranks refer to those magier who refuse or are not allowed into a proper mage’s guild, many magier with strong pride in their personal achievements are those too poor both monetary and talent to join a guild. Guild magus have a more stratified rank system since they are usually tested more rigorously and have the resources to be recognized. Mages guilds are usually grouped by country though there are some guilds without borders that accept those who wish to join as long as they meet their individual requirements. Mage guilds usually offer better training especially to raise magic pool levels but are less likely to have varied spells to offer at low levels. Even high level magus are more likely to follow set spell repositories in general. Free magi tend to have more varied and exotic spells in general, often due to improvisation or study of old relics they find.

Besides magic which is power of the soul there is also Ki, this is power from the body and primarily the blood. It functions along a general basis as those eastern martial arts you know of but can exist along magic. Training both is possible though foolhardy, both in resources needed along with exponentially higher self-destruction rates. Ki abilities tend to be less fancy but still powerful since it is based in a different power source then magic and is more common as everyone has some level of ki. Most elite or veteran warriors practice some level of ki abilities and some are even masters of Ki. While Ki and Magic have different sources of power they are still from a common origin and can be interchanged to a degree. Some are born with better Ki power pools just like mages and both are able to have inborn abilities or talents but the ubiquitous balance factor of being a walking danger source. Regardless high proficiency in magic/ki will make a person stronger, faster, more mentally fit and actually live longer.I hope I can use Ki since the family is rather elite in terms of martial ability so I should be able to use it as well. If I can use both.....oh gods above this will be awesome. Maybe I should not be counting my eggs but well who would not want this sort of shit, hehehe.
