Chapter 3 - Classes

Kelsey woke up to a slew of notifications ringing in her mind. Her body was sore. It had been late evening when she had fled from the wolf and climbed the tree, but now dawn was breaking, with the faintest hint of sunlight peeking over the horizon. For several moments, she lay still, the memory of the pain fresh in her mind, before finally mustering the courage to sit up. Groaning as she moved, her body seemed to protest every millimeter she shifted. Once upright, she leaned back against the tree, opened her interface, and was stunned by what she saw.

*ding* Warning! You have ingested Mageblood! The Rebirth Ritual will begin.

*ding* Mageblood has altered your body. Your body shall be remade.

Kelsey couldn’t believe her eyes. Checking her status window she saw that all of her

stats went up by five already. Does that mean I leveled up, or did it work retroactively? More

questions for another time.

Mageblood Regeneration seems like an incredible skill. I knew eating that stuff was a good idea. I don’t even feel hungry anymore. I do wish the pain wasn’t so bad though…

Looking at the final notification, she braced herself.

Mage! Magic exists! Oh yeah, every little kid’s dream of magic is about to be my reality. The list of Specialty classes was immense, easily surpassing 1,000 entries in total. Nearly every kind of specialty one could imagine was present for the Warrior, Mage, and Worker archetypes. It seemed that Rogues and Archers fell under the Warrior archetypes, where Healers fell under the Mage archetype. She could read more in-depth descriptions of any of the classes she wanted just by focusing on her choice. She opened a few that piqued her interest.

[Fire Mage]

A fire mage is able to create and control flames at will. A simple art, but one that,

with effort, can bestow the wielder with great power.

[Atomic Mage]

An Atomic mage is able to create energy from matter, and matter from energy. The power of the sun at their fingertips.

[Spatial Mage]

A Spatial mage is able to create and manipulate spatial forces. The ability to bend the laws of physics to their will.

Her attention turned to Atomic Mage and Spatial Mage from the specialty class list. Now these are fascinating. ‘The power of the sun at their fingertips’. That certainly is tempting. As much firepower as I’m sure a class like that would give me, I’m worried about radiation. I wouldn’t mind blowing up a mountain with a bomb but doing it with an atomic one just feels reckless.

She then turned her focus to the Spatial Mage class. Spatial magic is certainly cool. From my understanding, Spatial magic is stuff like teleportation and telekinesis. I am only really worried about its offensive power. Telekinesis is cool, but it's not exactly as direct as blowing something up with a nuke, is it?

Fire mage was something that Kelsey was seriously considering as well. It’s a basic element but being able to create and control fire would not only be great for fighting but would also let me do things like cook food and make fires more easily. I have to think about my survival...

All of this is with the assumption that this isn’t just some fever dream and is actually going to give me magical powers.

The Mage and Healer categories were longer than the others, but still lacked some of the exotic magic types she knew from fantasy games such as void, illusion, poison, or blight. Maybe those are in the Advanced section? There still seemed to be a lot to choose from despite the missing elements.

She was surprised to see that she had advanced classes available. Them being called advanced classes implied that someone shouldn’t be able to start with them. Selecting the advanced classes, she immediately understood why there were so many options available to her. It was because she was from Earth.

[Advanced Classes]

[Scientist]

[Researcher]

[Doctor]

[Biologist]

[Chemist]

She saw the list of her advanced class options and her excitement deflated. These are too... ordinary. I didn’t get thrown into this magical world to work in a lab. I want magic, adventure, not another 9-to-5 job. The classes might have their uses, but they didn't resonate with her. Moreover, she didn’t feel like any of them would help her survive a second encounter with a magic vine wolf.

After finishing the list of advanced classes, she looked through all of the mage options, and narrowed her list down to the three options she started with. [Atomic Mage], [Spatial Mage], and [Fire Mage]. All three were incredibly appealing and, if they worked the way she thought they would, they would certainly help her survive in the forest. She weighed the pros and cons of each for over two hours. Without knowing exactly what skills she would get; it was hard to decide. In the end, her choice was clear. The power of a nuclear reactor at her fingertips was tempting, and being able to cook more easily would be nice, but the truth was, she loved space. She was a software developer with a minor in physics on Earth. The idea of manipulating the fabric of spacetime was something she just couldn’t pass up. The final straw, however, was her concern about destruction. If I'm going to have magical powers, I'm going to use them to create, not just destroy.

Without another thought, she made her selection.

The instant Kelsey made the choice she felt power rush from within her and spread to

her extremities. Looking down at her body and flexing her hands, she stood up.

I feel… amazing! And it actually worked! I have magic…

Hopping from one foot to the other, testing the strength of her new body, she found herself faster and stronger than ever before. She began punching and kicking the air, like she had seen people do in boxing movies, trying to get a feel for her new capabilities. I don’t have a mirror, but my body doesn’t look any different. I really hope that my ‘new body’ or class didn’t mess with my face. I like my face.

Then she started looking more closely at her skills.

Which one should I try first…? I guess I’ll try the two that I almost certainly cannot hurt myself with. Deciding on Spatial Sight first, she activated the skill with a thought, and the world around her became a tapestry of wireframe threads. Details like color and texture were completely lost, and in their place were manifestations of reality itself. Everything she looked at was made of small lines and polygons. This is weird… It's like looking at objects in a game before the textures are added.

The thickness of the lines in her vision seemed to depict the mass or energy of whatever she was looking at. When she looked at her hands, the lines were thin and somewhat bright. The lines making up her clothes were fine and nearly invisible. Looking toward the Mageblood tree she was standing on was different. The lines making up the Mageblood tree were thick and shone brightly. She gazed over the edge of the branch, looking down at the forest below. She was able to pick out general shapes of things like trees and bushes but was unable to see the finer details of her surroundings. Rocks and grass on the ground were just an unintelligible mess of wires that she couldn’t make heads or tails of.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

While maintaining Spatial Sight, she decided to activate another untested skill, Lesser Telekinetic Enhancement. The moment she did, she felt a distinct change—not from within, as with her body transformation or class change, but as if an external force had enveloped her, enhancing her movements with added force and speed. It was akin to being assisted by an unseen suit of armor that amplified her every action automatically. Her Spatial Sight revealed subtle changes: the wireframes of her body remained the same in thickness but glowed with increased brightness. I definitely feel stronger and faster. She thought as she tested her body’s movements.

Spatial Sight seems… kind of useful I guess? At the very least it helps me understand what's happening with my other skills. She decided she would use Spatial Sight with all of her skills going forward to see what was actually happening to the spatial structures. Wanting to see the world normally again she deactivated Spatial Sight.

Alright, up next, Spatial Perception. The description for this one seemed super interesting. I can’t imagine what seeing in a sphere around me might mean.

Kelsey activated Spatial Perception and the moment she did so her reality changed. She was no longer a human with two eyes, she was now an omnipresent god with thousands… at least within a roughly 10 meter sphere around herself. Spatial Perception didn’t let her ‘see’ what was in the sphere like her normal vision. It was more like her Spatial Sight. She could see the wireframe outlines of objects which meant that specific colors and other such details were lost. She also wasn’t actually seeing from any one spot; it was like she had eyes everywhere all at once. It was almost like a whole new type of sense, unlike sight, or feeling, but somehow kind of like both. With her eyes closed she was able to count the individual legs of a tiny bug on the opposite side of the tree and she could tell that the small body of the insect was smooth and fragile. She could see the inside of the tree she was standing on and could watch as the Mageblood flowed down the sides of the tree. In the core of the tree there was a pipe-like structure where the mana was flowing upwards to the top. The branches themselves had a similar structure as well. Spatial Perception was like the perfect mental picture of everything happening around her.

Kelsey finally took a moment to assess her appearance. Oh god I’m a mess. The t-shirt she was wearing was almost completely torn at the back, only hanging together by the thinnest margin. The skin under where the cut happened was completely healed but her skin and the fabric were coated in blood. Her red hair was littered with tiny bits of leaves, twigs, and dirt from her trip through the forest. On the bright side, her face seemed unchanged based on what she could tell by the wireframe lines that made up her new vision.

I need a bath.

It took about half an hour for Kelsey to adapt to her new spherical perception. It seemed to have a very small mana cost, but it was negligible, so she decided to just keep it

active permanently in order to get used to the feeling.

Okay, now onto the main event.

Tearing off a piece of her already very torn jeans and placing it on the ground, she activated Lesser Telekinesis while focusing on the piece of torn cloth. Initially, nothing happened, but then, the small piece of denim shakily rose into the air and began moving toward her open palm. Wow, that is intuitive. It's the exact same feeling as when I would sit down on the couch, forget that I left the TV remote on the counter, and imagine the remote levitating. Except.. It actually works.

She continued to use her skill on the piece of denim while monitoring her mana. Using it on an object this light didn’t seem to deplete her mana reserves at all.

It's definitely using some amount of mana, significantly less than 1 mana per second, but my regeneration is just higher. According to my status screen, I’m currently regenerating about four and a half mana per second.

With Manasight activated, she observed the mana, dark purple in color, interacting with the denim as she experimented. She could tell that mana was affecting the fabric, but to her, it appeared as a simple cloud of mana that surrounded the piece of denim. I guess that is Spatial mana?

Wait, this is the same color I saw when that dome surrounded Thadius and me. I wonder if that was spatial magic too? It did teleport me, presumably. That is certainly a trait I would associate with spatial magic.

Does that mean someone, or something brought me here with magic? The moment she had the thought, fear gripped her chest. She immediately began thinking of other things and entered Meditation. Once she had calmed down a handful of seconds later, she went back to working on her skills, purposefully ignoring the terrifying possibility that there was someone out there right now, watching her.

Deactivating Manasight, Kelsey switched to Spatial Sight and observed the piece of denim as her spatial manipulation affected it. It appeared as though a hand made of wires was clutching the strip of cloth, moving it exactly as a hand would. The hand itself was made from spatial wires that were formed from the area around the piece of denim itself. I guess that makes sense, I was imagining a hand when I used the skill.

It seemed that Lesser Telekinesis couldn’t create new spatial structures, it just manipulated the ones that were already inherent to reality in order to move the piece of denim. I guess that must be what Lesser Spatial Creation is for.

Letting the piece of cloth drop, she decided to try something new. She activated Lesser Telekinetic Creation and visualized a short blade being created from the spatial wires. Moments later spatial wires sprang into existence and began forming the blade she had imagined. Looking closely at her creation, she saw that the edge of the blade was a single wire thick. She didn’t know how sharp a spatial wire was though. Deciding on a direct approach to test it, she reached out and touched the blade, only to immediately retract her hand as the blade cut deeply into her thumb.

Damn that thing is sharp, she thought, sucking on her thumb. She then released her control, and the telekinetic blade dissipated as she turned her attention to trying the new skill from her Mageblood Body.

She turned off her Spatial Sight, sat down, and, while observing her bleeding thumb, mentally activated her new general skill, Mageblood Regeneration, which could convert Mana into Health. She monitored her mana and health during the process. The healing was fast; in less than a second, the bleeding stopped, and the wound on her thumb closed right before her eyes. It was 1 to 1. She spent 4 mana to heal the 4 health she had lost. Within a blink, her mana was fully regenerated. That’s insane... I can focus on getting more mana and It will functionally be like increasing my health with it.

Once her thumb was finished healing, Kelsey stood back up, reactivated Spatial Sight, and resumed practicing with her Lesser Telekinesis and Lesser Telekinetic Creation. She discovered she could create a variety of small objects, from blades, hammers, and spears to paper clips, cups, or any other simple object. She also noticed that her spatial creations, that shone brightly with Manasight, were completely invisible to non enhanced sight. Additionally, she found she could manipulate physical objects, like bark from the Mageblood tree, with more force and speed than those she made with her creation skill. She just couldn’t maintain the integrity of an object she created if it moved too far from her. Attempting to create wieldable weapons like a short sword or a dagger yielded mixed results; she could handle and move them, but any attempt to apply force behind a swing caused her concentration to falter, and the objects to dissipate. It feels like it should be possible, I just need practice.

During her time testing, Kelsey realized that in conjunction, her two skills functioned exactly the same way she had always imagined Telekinesis would work. She could push, pull, or twist any object that her Telekinesis skill had the strength to effect. She could create brand new objects with her creation skill that she could then manipulate with telekinesis. It was like a dream come true. Telekinetic powers were something she always thought would be super fun to have on Earth. Admittedly, most of that desire came from not wanting to get up from the couch. Still cool though.

After half an hour, feeling much more comfortable using her newfound Lesser Telekinetic Creation and Lesser Telekinesis skills, she shifted her focus to her Transfer skill. Holding the piece of denim, she mentally activated the skill, and the strip vanished instantly. In that moment, she gained a new sense—a mental image of a 10x10x10 meter room appeared in her mind, with the piece of denim lying on the floor. With a mere thought, the denim was back in her hand. She transferred the piece of cloth back and forth several times, noting how little mana it required to move such a small object.

Okay well that’s going to be useful. Hopefully I can store food in it… once I find some.

Placing the piece of denim on the branch beside her, she revisited her skill list, deciding to try Lesser Telekinetic Armor next. Unsure of what to expect but excited, she activated the skill. A translucent purple shimmer enveloped her body and clothes. Had she not seen the purple energy, she wouldn't have even known the skill was active. It doesn’t hinder my movement or flexibility at all. She didn’t want to get too excited before she discovered how durable it was.

She found that her fingers could move through the armor with no problem. It seemed air was able to pass through the armor too, judging by the fact that she could still breathe with the skill active. She could touch herself and her clothes as if the armor wasn't there. However, when she reached for the piece of denim, the sensation changed. At first, it felt like she was wearing gloves and was completely unable to feel the texture of the material, or anything else beyond the pressure she was exerting on it. After a few moments of concentration, the barrier touching the denim disappeared and she was able to hold it normally.

Activating her Spatial Sight to examine the armor, it appeared almost solid, obscuring her view of herself. The lines constituting the armor were incredibly thin yet shone brighter than the Mageblood tree she was standing on. Guess that confirms my theory about the lines indicating mass and energy. It seems like line thickness indicates mass, and how bright the lines are indicate the amount of energy. The Mageblood tree certainly contains more energy than my armor, but its spread over such a wide area it appears dimmer.

She spent several minutes exploring her armor's capabilities. She discovered she could adjust its transparency and remove sections entirely. She even managed to alter its style slightly. Changes in transparency only affected its appearance to normal sight; to her Manasight and Spatial Sight, it continued to shine like a beacon. She decided to keep the armor mostly the same, choosing to make the area around her face invisible, but making the rest of the armor opaque. At least then someone without manasight would be able to see her face.

*ding* Spatial Sight has reached lvl 1 -> 2

Now, she had one final test for her new armor. I guess it's time to try punching something. Kelsey walked up to the spot where the branch met the tree and began to psyche herself up. She was all too aware how much it hurt to punch something solid like a tree. She once got angry as a kid and punched one of the trees in her backyard. Thankfully, it didn’t break any of her fingers, but it did hurt like hell. On the bright side, she was so embarrassed by the pain that she totally forgot to be angry afterwards.

Hey, I got this. I’m in a land of magic. I’m basically a superhero now, I can punch a magic tree. I mean I already drank its blood; this stupid tree can’t hurt me.

Then without stopping to second guess herself, she punched. Her fist hit the tree with more speed and force than any human from Earth could ever dream of producing.

‘Crack’.

As her fist connected with the tree, a loud cracking sound echoed through the forest—the bark underneath her fist shattered, releasing Mageblood sap by the liter. Oh shit, oh no, sorry, tree!

Panicking, she rushed to the crack in the tree, pressing her hands against the opening. I had no idea I had gotten that much stronger… I guess with my higher attributes and my Lesser Telekinetic Enhancement, my effective strength is around 30. If 10 really is a human average, it makes sense I would be so much stronger now.

Holding her hands against the tree's open wound, she activated Lesser Telekinetic Creation and formed a wall of force against the hole. She focused intensely, maintaining the barrier for several minutes, willing it to hold while she thought of how to best stop the bleeding. Gradually, she noticed the tree's wound beginning to close, and the flow of Mageblood sap slowed. I guess the tree can turn mana into health too.

She checked her status and found, to her surprise, that her mana was still full. She could sense her mana draining slowly into her armor, but it felt like a very small amount. As she focused on the feeling of the mana draining from her, she realized she knew exactly how much mana was being drained per second. 0.15 mana per second to keep the armor active. That is oddly specific. She thought back to when she punched the tree and could vaguely remember the feeling of her mana rushing out of her fist as she made contact with the tree, but she wasn’t sure how much it was. It wasn’t a huge amount, but it was certainly more than she was using just to keep it active. My mana regeneration really is incredible.

Thinking about punching the tree, she looked down at her fist and realized that it didn’t hurt in the slightest. Grinning, she looked at her skills and saw her final untested skill. Short

Range Teleport. Saved the best for last. She looked around the branch and made a smart decision for once.

Probably shouldn’t test this while 200 meters above ground.

Before moving down the tree, she took one last look at her status screen and distributed her free points.

As she looked through her skills list, she made note of two things in particular. The first was that class skills had cap of some sort; she currently had 7 out of a maximum of 10 class skills. The second thing she noticed is that General skills seemed to not have that same kind of limitation. The number next to the general skills simply told her how many she had. Not that any of this matters right now. I'm nowhere near my cap for class skills anyways.

With her attribute points distributed and curiosity satiated she began her descent down the tree. This climb down was much easier than before thanks to her improved attributes. As she reached the bottom, she looked around searching for any threat nearby. Seeing nothing dangerous, she quietly moved in the direction of the river. Deciding to be slightly more careful this time, she moved to the edge of the woods surrounding the riverbank and glanced around.

It was a good thing she did, because sitting at the edge of the river drinking its fill was a large, rabbit-like creature with a keratin horn sticking from its forehead. It had dirty white fur and

ruby red eyes. It was larger than any rabbit she had ever seen, easily over a meter tall and thick. It was closer to the size of a medium sized dog than a rabbit. She wasn’t quite close enough to Identify the creature, but it didn’t seem nearly as dangerous as the Thorn Wolf had been. She didn’t see any mana coming from the monster either.

Hopefully that thing can’t use magic.

Kelsey considered her options for a few moments before making a decision. I'm hungry, and some grilled rabbit sounds delicious right about now. May as well use this as an excuse to try out some of these new skills.

With a thought, she used her Spatial Perception to locate some small rocks nearby, then used Lesser Telekinesis to draw them toward her hand. Thin spatial wires encircled the rocks, guiding them into her outstretched palm. As each rock reached her hand, it vanished, transferred into her internal storage with her Transfer skill. She held her breath, careful to remain silent and not startle the horned rabbit. Her armor and body enhancements remained active as she prepared.

After several minutes of accumulating her arsenal of projectiles, she felt ready. Summoning one of the stones from her storage, she gripped it with Telekinesis. Focused on the rabbit, still unsuspecting by the river, she launched the stone at it with all the power her new skill would let her. The stone, like an arrow, flew through the air with incredible speed, narrowly missing the rabbit and snapping into the ground, causing dirt and sand to scatter in every direction.

The rabbit whipped its head around and locked eyes with Kelsey as it immediately charged in her direction. The rabbit was fast, but Kelsey’s magic was faster. Summoning another stone, she waited for the perfect moment—when the rabbit launched into a leap towards her. As it closed the distance, about 10 meters from her, and its feet left the ground, Kelsey seized the moment, hurling the stone directly at the rabbit. The stone struck the rabbit's chest, causing it to veer off course and tumble to the ground beside her.

She didn’t take the time to see how much damage she had done; instead, she turned and ran toward the riverbank where she would have more space to fight. As she made her way down to the river, she noticed a rabbit entering her sphere of perception, its horn aimed directly at her back. With no time to summon and launch another rock at the rabbit, she resorted to the only option she could think of: activating her Short Range Teleport skill, envisioning herself a few meters to the left. She vanished and reappeared 5 meters to her left, just in time to see the rabbit charging through the space she had occupied moments before. She grinned wildly with excitement and identified the rabbit.

[Horned Rabbit - lvl X]

She couldn’t see its level, but she knew she could win. She stood on the riverbank, ready for the Horned Rabbit’s next attack. She summoned another stone and waited. This time, the rabbit approached more cautiously, seemingly content to circle her. “Come on you stupid hare-brained moron, fight me already!” she yelled at the monster. Thank god no one was around to hear that.

Almost as if it understood her terrible taunt, its eyes glowed red and it charged at her again. She prepared to execute the same plan as before, waiting for the rabbit to launch itself at her. However, this time was different. As the rabbit planted its feet to launch, Kelsey saw a burst of light gray mana explode from underneath, propelling it forward much faster than before, its horn aimed at her midsection. Kelsey released her stone projectile and attempted to activate her teleport, but it was too late. The rabbit's horn slammed into the Lesser Telekinetic armor surrounding her. She felt her mana rush to the impact site, but it wasn't enough. The horn pierced her armor and stabbed directly into her stomach.

“Damn you rabbit, that really hurts.” She muttered, checking her status. That single stab took out over two thirds of my health.

Grunting in pain, she seized the monster by one of its feet and yanked the rabbit, along with its horn, from her stomach. Not releasing her grip, she clenched the rabbit's leg tighter and slammed it onto the ground below. With the rabbit momentarily dazed, she pinned it down by kneeling on its chest as she created a razor-sharp blade of telekinetic force. Just as she was about to drive the newly created blade into the rabbit's neck, it snapped out of its daze and thrashed its legs and horn wildly. It managed to slip free just enough to bring its horn up and stab her in the shoulder. Being stabbed hurts so much more than I expected.

Releasing the rabbit to avoid another stabbing, Kelsey backed up and teleported away, summoning another stone. She hurled the stone at the rabbit as it dodged to the right. Anticipating its movements, Kelsey activated her teleport again, positioning herself right where the rabbit was moving through the air. Gathering as much strength as she could muster in her legs, she slammed her telekinetically armored leg into the rabbit's chest. She felt the small creature’s body give in as her shin connected and sent it flying 10 meters through the air. Landing with a thud, kicking up a cloud of sand, Kelsey could tell that the creature was in pain. As it struggled to its feet, Kelsey moved in for the kill. She didn’t want the monster to suffer more than necessary.

She teleported next to the rabbit once again, grabbed its horn, and lifted it off the ground. It flailed wildly, trying everything in its power to break free from her grip, but it was no use. She was already forming another telekinetic blade. The rabbit continued to struggle for several more moments as the blade formed. Once it had, she wordlessly launched the blade at the creature's neck, ending its suffering.

Multiple dings rang out in her mind as she transferred the rabbit’s head and body into her storage. Then, feeling exhausted and in pain, she laid down on the ground and activated Mageblood Regeneration. I’ve really gotta remember to do this in combat, she thought as her wounds slowly began closing. In order to speed up her recovery, she slipped into Meditation. Within less than a minute, she was back to full health and mana.
