Keith left the building. I glanced at Maxwell.
“Hey, how are you sure we’re the same people you lost all those years ago.” I said in a dull voice. He grinned a big grin and laughed.
“What, ya think I wouldn’t recognize the face of someone who did this to me.” He pointed to his eye.
“Besides, I have a special ability. It’s because I’m strong. Anyone who’s weaker than me is subdued due to the pressure I’m constantly giving off.” I just blinked at him.
“You can’t base your judgement on that, does that mean anyone that is stronger than you is Rin and Keith.” he shook his head and flexed his muscles.
“Anyone with great strength has visible proof of that. But Rin and Keith are the only two skinny men who can stand by my side without feeling like they’re about to die. Why you may ask. Because you two are the strongest people alive.”
I shook my head. I don’t know much about the properties of this world, but that sounds like total rubbish.
“So how do you go places without basically torturing normal people?”
“I can control it.”
“But you said it’s constant.”
“Yeah, I can control how strong the constant flow is. And just for your information, I’m exuding the fullest capacity of my pressure. You should be choking right now.” He poured some coffee into his mug and took a big gulp. I got up and put the bowl in the sink.
I dodged to the side.
Crash
I turned around and saw Maxwell’s hands outstretched. Seems like he threw the coffee mug at me. I rolled my eyes and put on the hooded coat he gave us. “I’m going out.”
I informed him.
Stepping outside I felt something furry rub against my leg. Shocked by this I jumped backwards and got ready to fight. Looking down to the spot I was just standing I saw a white cat with a black ribbon wrapped around its neck. It held a red rose in its mouth. I slowly approached the cat and petted it. It purred loudly in my embrace. It got up and walked away. It noticed I was following it and stopped to look back and meow loudly. I decided to follow the cat, I didn’t have much to do today so I guess an adventure wouldn’t hurt every now and then. Standing up I put the hood on and followed the cat. We walked past many stores and many alleys. It jumped up on a dumpster and onto a roof. Not wanting to lose sight of the cat, I followed it. The cat then walked to the other side of the roof and jumped down onto a stone wall. I followed the cat all the way to what seemed like a graveyard. The cat walked up to the biggest tombstone, two graves lying next to each other. I read the words on the stones.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
“Here lies Keith Cunningham. Died protecting the orb, the people and the world.”
Next to that was another tomb stone, just as big as Keith.
“Rin Laramie. Died protecting the orb, the princess, and the world. He claimed he was never for the people, but we shall honour him no matter what.” I looked at the grave solemnly and sighed. The cat dropped the rose over my grave and looked back at me. The cat then stood over my grave and began to dig.
“H-hey don’t do that, I may be alive but that doesn’t mean you have to ruin the burial sight.” I said as I stood there, debating on whether I should stop the cat, or see what she’s trying to dig up. I waited a bit and decided to stop the cat, but before I was able to, the cat pulled out a red book and passed it to me. It dropped the book to my feet and looked at me and meowed with what I could assume was a big happy cat smile. I picked up the book and read the cover.
“Rin Laramie.”
I tried opening the book, but something kept it shut. I looked down and noticed the cat was gone. “Peculiar.” I mumbled before putting the book in my pocket. I covered up the dirt and went back the way I came. Entering the house, I saw Keith sitting down on the couch, he was looking at the two badges in his hand.
“Here, this badge is our rank. We’re currently ranked 1, which means we have to do chores and stuff.” he grumbled. He threw both my badge and id in my direction. I caught it. I then placed my coat on the coat rack next to Keith’s. I pulled the notebook out of my coat and handed it to Keith.
“Try and open it.”
“It has your name on it, shouldn’t you know how to open it.”
“I found this at my grave, it was buried there.” he looked at me confused before grinning.
“Wow, look at you. I wouldn’t dig up someone’s grave.”
“It wasn’t me; it was the cat.”
He said sure in an obviously sarcastic way before attempting to open the book. He also struggled to do this. He threw the book back to me and huffed in defeat.
“Seems glued shut. You better hold onto it; it might be important.” I nodded and went to my room. I spotted the cat sitting on my desk.
“So, this is where you went, my feline friend. You’re not a normal cat are you.” I walked up to it and petted it. She purred in response.
“Why did you take me to that place?” I asked while placing the book on the desk. I instantly felt silly for expecting the cat to respond. The cat walked toward the book and placed its paws on it.
“I guess you already showed me the answer to that question princess.”
I then picked the book up and placed it in the drawer on my desk. The rest of the day was spent playing with the cat.
