Chapter 3: Weapons

Chapter 3: Weapons

We slowed down once we reached a forest. “How long until we reach Umbragogo.” Rin asked as he took a sip out of his canteen. “Seems like it’ll take four days by horse, and it’s Umbrage.” I explained while fixing the blanket over the hay. The sun was setting, and I was getting tired, so I lay down and began to close my eyes. Right when I was finally asleep Rin dragged me out of the cart.

“Oh no you don’t, you drive during the night, If I drive any further, we’re going to crash.” he sat in the cart and wrapped himself up. I decided not to argue because I know if we get into any problem Rin is taking control cause he’s the best driver, so he needs to rest. “Hey Keith.” he started as I began to climb up the horse.

“Did you feel that too, that deep sorrow as we fled from the town.”

I sighed, “yeah I did, you think it has anything to do with those memories Simon said we lost.”

“I don’t know, but what I do know is that we’re not in our world anymore and I don’t think we’ll ever go back.” I heard rustling coming from the cart. I assumed Rin’s trying to get comfortable.

“This suck, I’m stuck with you until we figure out what’s going on.” I chuckled; Rin chuckled in response as he soon drifted asleep. Trotting down the road in this pitch-black darkness I lit a torch that was in the cart to see better. Holding it up ahead I focused on the dark woods that surrounded us. Feeling chills run down my back I look around to see what was staring at me. Not wanting to stay here any longer I quickened the pace of the horse so that it went from a trot to a jog. The path was getting bumpier, and I was surprised that Rin didn’t wake up yet. Suddenly the sound of footsteps filled my ears, it sounds like at least ten men were running. I look behind me and found what looks like bandits riding horses and pursuing us. Speeding up the horse I tried to escape, but the bandits were getting closer. If the cart wasn’t attached to the horse, my escape would be guaranteed. Looking at the peacefully sleeping Rin I thought carefully about what I should do. Deciding my freedom is more important than someone who tried to, or well did kill me I choose to disconnect the cart. “Sorry Rin.” I said with a grin. As if something possessed Rin he got up in an instant. He turned around and glared at me.

“Don’t disconnect the cart.” He instructed.

Rin’s Perspective.

I felt the cart suddenly increasing in speed. Not wanting to waste my energy I left my trust in Keith, I’m sure he can outrun whatever's chasing us. That was of course wishful thinking. I know he would betray me at some point. Putting strength into my body I stood up after hearing Keith mumbling something.

“Don’t disconnect the cart.” I ordered him as I prepared myself to fight. Turning around I spotted bandits. I’m currently tired from guiding the horse for a day and fighting Keith on the rooftop, so I’m not at my best to fight. I shoved all thoughts of rest and spotted a bandit getting dangerously close.

“Faster Delila faster.” The rider screamed as he aimed an arrow at me. Dropping on my knees to dodge the arrow that was shot my way I picked up hay and threw it at the archer’s face. While he was distracted and riding on the side of the cart, I jumped off the cart and onto his horse pushing the archer off. Doing this much is simple for me, in fact this reminded me of the time I fought Keith in the middle of the Sahara Desert while he was trying to escape by horse. I guided the horse to the other bandits. One pulled out a sword and tried taking a swing at me. Not having anything to protect myself with I fell back a little and grabbed the swordsman by the back of his caller and yanked him off the horse. He seemed to be the leader because the other bandits slowed down. Jumping off Delila I run towards the swordsman as he was trying to get up. I picked up the sword that was long forgotten and pointed it to the man.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“You think you can scare me with that. Men finish him!” he instructed with a loud voice. Looking around me I noticed I was surrounded by men getting off their horse.

This much is nothing, I had to fight way more to be allowed in the agency I worked for. Waiting for the first attack I paid attention to my surroundings. One brave person who was wielding a cutlass ran my way. His swings were reckless, and his center balance was off, he was obviously one who relied on brute force and not skill. Figuring this out I leaned to the side as he charged towards me. I used his weight and momentum to flip him over. I than hit the back of his head with the back of the sword as he was falling to knock him out. After witnessing this the bandits looked at each other.

“He was our strongest man.” one whispered. Not thinking twice, they all charged towards me

Using this utter chaos as an advantage I backed away as two was rushing towards me, they collided into each other, it was like watching a cartoon. I swiftly kicked under one of the bandits' legs and grabbed another bandit who was approaching me. I threw him at the bandit who was recovering from the kick. Grabbing the cutlass from the floor I hit another bandit in the back of his head. Now only two bandits are left. Watching what I did, the two bandits that are now on the floor looked at me scared, they were obviously the weakest. I glared at them.

In one swift motion they gave up their stuff and weapons and tried to run away. I watched as they escaped and searched the other members and found two stuff to use to carry the sword and cutlass. I put the sword on my back and got on Delila.

I hope Keith didn’t leave me behind, I left my items in the cart. Moving as fast as Delila can go, I spotted Keith, he was driving slowly.

“Ah so you waited for me.”

“Yeah, I’m sure if I didn’t you would try to kill me or something. So, what did you bring.” Keith asked in excitement. We both stop and I showed him the cutlass. I also showed him some food I took. “You found any money.”

“I didn’t want to steal that much from them.” I explained. He glared at me. I simply couldn’t allow myself to steal their money, I already fought them and destroyed their pride. Robing them would have been too much. We then hooked the other horse to the cart, not trusting Keith anymore I instructed him to go back in the cart. Now that the cart is pulled by two horses, I sat on the cart itself, like I’m supposed to, and began driving.

Four days, I drove the cart for four days straight. We stopped the cart every now and then during the two days we were on the road. But because we ran out of food and water on the third day we kept going without breaks, hoping we could stock up on food when we get there. Soon enough we made it to Umbragodo. Umbragoo was less like a city, and more like a fortified fortress. It was guarded by huge walls and on it was a crest of what looks like a moon.

“Welcome to Umbrage. Please show me your passport.” One of the soldiers guarding the gates instructed. Tired I looked around me and in my pockets, “Don’t have it.” I mumbled. The guard pointed a spear at us.

“Wait, wait, wait, what my friend is trying to tell us is that Simon of the town of wind sent us.” Keith explained. The soldier nodded his head and told us to wait right here. He left and went into what look like an outpost. Soon a bulky dude with tan skin appeared. His hair was black, and he had a buzz cut, his face had facial hair and his right Eye had a scar going down to his cheek.

“It’s you guys.” He said as he emerged from the shadows.

“Ten years went by, and now you decide to show your face.”
