“Well, my name’s Rin and his name’s Keith.”
“It really is you two, oh how long have I waited to see you both again, it’s me Simon.” He looked like he was on the brink of tears.
“I don’t know you” I asked him, tilting my head to the side to further drive home the fact that I really don’t know who he is. He sighs while running his hands through his hair.
“I was afraid of this; it seems like using the orb of Mae messed with your memories of this world.” he then turned around and walked to his kitchen packing a backpack filled with food and water in a canteen. “I won’t keep you here for long, the temple of Lucy recently appeared, now the town folks are leaving.”
“The temple of Lucy, what’s that, and what do you mean this world.” I was filled with questions.
“The temple of Lucy is a sign of destruction and calamity. If one of the temples appears near your town, it means it’s time for the place to crumble. Don’t worry about the last part, your memory of this place will return to you slowly, you just have to activate the orbs.” he handed me the satchel with the scroll and handed Rin the satchel with the orb. “Please leave the town immediately, I wish I can help you, but I must stay as both the mayor, and because these old legs won’t take me far.” He waved goodbye to us and closed the door. “Hey Rin, what was that myth you were talking about?” I asked as I took out the scroll to examine.
“Can’t believe you don’t know about the myth of something you stole. The orb of Mae is said to teleport those who shed their blood on it, carrying nothing but the user's body.” I then looked up from the map and looked at Rin. “Hey, I think this orb did more than teleport us, look.” I showed him the map. As a detective that travelled the world chasing me, he should be familiar with most countries' layouts and street names.
“What’s this? This map is like nothing I've ever seen before.” he then opened the scroll even wider. The scroll revealed the world map.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
“Infact, these continents aren’t even close to the earths.” He showed it to me even clearer, five small continents spread across the map circled by a big ring which I assume is land, it’s something alright. “This isn’t earth.” I mumbled; Rin nodded in agreement. I was about to head back to the old man to ask more questions, but the land began to shake.
Boom
Loud noises that can be compared to a kundu drum being struck right next to a microphone. I noticed the land shaking more furiously behind us, so I quickly turned around. Something that’s similar to an Aztec temple began to emerge behind some buildings.
“Rin, Keith, get away from here.” Simon said while pointing towards a horse cart, he then handed us a pouch full of coins.
“Get out of here as fast as you can, get to Umbrage, the town. Tell the guards men Simon of the town of wind sent you, he’ll explain everything he can.” He quickly instructed. Rin, who has more experience driving a horse, hopped on it while I jumped in the cart. Simon ran inside his house. Rin skillfully led the horse through the fallen obstacles that fell due the tremors. The rumbling then stopped. I fixed myself properly in the cart full of hay and watched the giant temple overlooking this small town. Soon the doors at the very top began to open. It was a sight to behold, and a terrifying one at that. Lava started to pour from the entrance and quickly made its way down the long stairs. This lava moved unnaturally, as if it was being pulled towards something. It almost moved like rushing water flowing down a waterfall.
“Rin, pick up speed, Lava’s rushing towards us.” I shouted as I clutched the satchel and the backpack closer to me. I couldn’t help but notice a faint purple glow coming from Rin's satchel, but I had no time to figure out what’s happening. I must hold on tight.
Leaving the town behind I watched as the lava slowed down. I watched how the town was getting smaller and smaller and couldn’t help but wonder if Simon’s alright. He seemed to be the only one left in the town, he could have left with us, but he didn’t. I noticed something wet running down my face and placed my hand on my cheek. “Why am I crying? Why do I feel so sad?” I looked at Rin who was currently whipping tears from his eyes as a quiet sob left his mouth. Not being able to hold in this pain that fills my chest I look up into the sky and cried.
Did I lose a friend?
