Chapter 1: Adversaries

Rushing up the stairs I attempt to make my greatest escape, my biggest getaway. I, Keith Cunningham, will steal the golden orb of Mae, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult as my arch nemesis Rin is getting ever so closer to me. Shoving objects down the stairs I quickly opened the door to the roof and shoved it behind me. I thought I was about to make it home free, but Rin shot the door open. Gun in hand he got increasingly closer to me. His jet-black hair shimmered brilliant in the moon light as his high-top ponytail blew in the nights draft.

“Keith Cunningham, do you have any idea how much I’ve searched and chased you. I followed you all over the world, but you were always one step ahead of me. But now it ends here.” He reloaded his gun and aimed it at me, I did the same, orb in left hand, gun in right.

“I finally get to take down the world's most infamous phantom thief.” A crazed grin forms on his face. Quickly he fired, but I rolled away shooting back at the crazy determined Rin Laramie. As if he’s able to see my movements before it happened, he fired ahead of me, nearly hitting my head. Running closer to him I shot the gun out of his hand and kicked his legs causing him to fall. Aiming my gun I shoot, but he quickly rolled out of my range and picked the gun up. Not giving him the chance to get up I shot him in the leg a little bit of his blood landed on the orb.

“Great, now I’m going to have to clean it.” I mumbled in anger. Realizing I’ve lost focus Rin took the opportunity and shot me in the leg then tackled me to the ground. “You're pretty persistent aren’t you.” I shouted at him, trying to fight the pain, “Of course I am.” he shouted back, he stabbed me in my left arm, blood spurting out of the wound. The orb rolling out of my hand and into my blood. Without giving me the chance to retrieve it Rin places the gun to my head; I did the same to him. “If you shoot me, I’ll shoot you.” I said putting my finger on the trigger.

“Do you think I care; I’ve dedicated my life to stopping you.” he retorted. Not seeing a way out of this I was left with no other options.

Bap!

Two bodies lie motionless on the rooftop one on top of the other. Keith Cunningham is finally dead, his stash of treasure was later found and returned, all but one. The golden orb of Mae disappeared from the crime scene, in fact it disappeared from that world and from its people’s memories.

I awoke on the ground with something on top of me. Startled by this, I pushed it off. It scurried awake, confused and disheveled; he glared my way. Realizing who I was he got up and got in a fighting stance, I did the same.

“Keith.”

“Rin.”

“What happened to your clothes?” he asked, pointing to me. I noticed I wasn’t wearing anything, and neither was Rin. He caught on to this rather quickly and tried to cover himself with a leaf nearby. I looked around, it looked like we’re in a forest, and there’s a pathway too, which means civilization is close. Rin walked to where I was, the orb in his hand. I than glanced to the ground, scanning my surroundings for something anything that can be used as a weapon, looks like Rin was doing the same.

"This is your fault, you just had to mess with the orb, now look at where we end up, We're in the middle of nowhere." Rin said venom lacing every word.

"My fault, it's your fault if you weren't so obsessed with me, I would be home free, and how can I cause us to teleport."

"You don't know the myth of the orb. You know what, arguing with a petty thief like you isn't going to get me anywhere." Rin huffed frustrated

“Want to call a truce, let’s figure out what happened, and then we fight.”

“Well duh, you think I’m going to fight you naked in the middle of the forest.” Rin was disgusted by just the thought of it. I ruffled my flames colored hair, trying to rack my brain on what caused us to get here. Following the path, we found a small town. It looks old, like a cottage town you would find in those fantasy stories that would be filled with elves and dwarfs. Rin tapped on my shoulder, “I don’t think we can enter looking like this.” he whispered, I nodded in agreement and pointed towards some clothes that were hanging on a line nearby. Quickly and stealthily, I stole some for me and Rin and handed it to him, he mumbled something about this going against his moral code, but he still put it on. “There we go.” I spoke. I donned a white tunic, I also had on charcoal grey pants that were ankle length. Rin was wearing a black tunic with long sleeves, gold patterns can be seen on its sleeve, and cloud grey pants.

“Wish I had a rubber band.” He said fumbling with his neck length hair.

Taking his lack of focus as an opportunity I snatch the orb from Rin's hand, leaving him puzzled.

"Truce over." I shouted back to him as I stared at the orb with pure bliss. now that I have this I can figure out where+. If I get in reach of a cell phone or a map of the local area, I can determine the route to take to get back home. Stopping in the middle of the town I noticed an old man. His back was hunched over. He had long grey hair and a beard that would have touched the ground if it wasn't groomed so nicely.

“Um excuse me sir, but what is this place?” I asked as politely as I could, hoping we shared the same language.

“Oh, are you a traveler, this small town is the town of wind.” The old man said as he began walking again. He stopped halfway and looked at me, “In your hand, that orb, you must hide it, come with me.” he then led me by taking my hand in one hand and grabbing his cane in the other.

"Keith you bastard, come back here!" I heard Rin shouting as he caught up to me. I just sticked out my tongue as I continued to follow the old man, Rin right behind us. He led us into a large cottage filled with books. Rummaging through his draws he pulls out two satchel and a scroll. “I’m sure that because you’re travelling with the sacred orb of Mae you know of its importance, but I want to ask just to be sure.”

He then pulls out a violet orb and places it in one satchel, while placing the scroll in the other.

“What are your names?”
