3: Grim Reality (Part 3)

<~-(+)-~>

Quest Complete!

[Restoration of Hope’s Lineage]

Caught unaware of the situation, a woman pleads for help against the Orcish Warbands that threaten to destroy the Dwarven Capital of [Deepholm]!

After defeating the Warbands and claiming victory, you unknowingly fixed events in history which will lead to the birth of a special Fatetouched descending from the survivors of this attack! The tale of Dark Obliteration will be told by their familial clan for generations to come and shall hold a special significance in dwarvish history.

I mentally facepalmed myself once I finished reading the prompt-dismissing it from my vision soon after. My actions today seemed to have far reaching consequences though only through sheer dumb luck none of the dwarves knew my name unless that woman examined me. Somehow, I do not doubt the dwarfess or her clan will care about this minor event in history since dwarves tend to only live for so long until old age claims them in the end and shall be quite busy rebuilding this settlement. Before I could teleport away from the settlement, I sensed something attempting to scry the area-almost blanketing the city in an attempt to accomplish a certain objective. Once I started feeling the sensation increase in density around my general location within the city, whoever was behind the scrying spell did not take into account a counterspell being prepared to glean information about them.

The caster’s energy signature within their spellwork revealed enough about them that before the scrying spell locked onto me directly, their spell shattered to pieces-most likely causing Backlash in the process. I knew the caster seemed to be around the Expert tier-judging from their energy quality-and their spell structure gave away human racial elements. My little scryer-or some kind of Oracle class-had targeted this location for a reason and I assumed they were trying to find me out due to the Region Broadcast since those Black Moon bastards got sanctioned by me. Now fully aware of potential scrying spells or abilities to try tracking me down, I made a mental note to track the caster down and start inquiring about what they wanted once they knew where I was.

After breaking the scrying spell and making absolutely sure there would be no more attempts to track me down by potential mortals utilizing the System, I teleported back to Earth. The spell worked at first since I knew my presence-despite my vessel being created by the System through chargen-was there within mere moments after what happened with the [Revenant Cascade] spell, but before the space around my destination coordinates stabilized, I received a System warning.

SYSTEM WARNING

Due to multiple temporal anomalies detected around [Earth - Sol 3] by the Eternal System, the teleportation coordinates have been altered towards the nearest safe haven! Alternatively, this can be revised to the following subsidiary destinations within the Multiverse accessible by the System or Nexus Gateways:

* Earth (Year 2021)

* Earth (Year 2020)

* Earth (2018-2019)

* Altaris [Earth - Sol 3a]

* Cantarius [Earth - Sol3b]

* [List continues]

I did not know what the fuck was happening on Earth to warrant a System redirection through the Gateways, but it warranted investigation which made me grumble more about another thing to investigate when it came to the System. After spending another moment grumbling about it, I pulled up a separate System prompt and inquired more about the anomalies.

What the System informed me about them made me worried.

Each anomaly was shattered fragments of Earth’s own timeline-its own future-that represented an apocalyptic wasteland governed by a false System Interface and resulted in over 75% of humanity either killed in the initial century or transformed into other species. In each fragment that I could examine, it seemed that events revolved around three people caught up in a series of unfortunate situations to forge them into some kind of anti-heroes which ended with someone travelling back through Time to alter past events. I could tell these three people are important to risk time travel, but what really made me consider them was that all members of their group are Fatetouched which put them under the purview of the Elder Courts. This also meant I have extreme leeway under the Accords to get close to them-even if their lives are threatened to such a degree as someone going backward in Time to stop them before they rise to power-and potentially recruit them into saving people.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

Utilizing the System itself, I pulled up their identities and the relevant information about this event depicted through the fragments. From the prompts I received back concerning my inquiries-and all the clutter they made in my vision-I decided to shorten them all down into a summarized “Administrator” type report that is easy enough on my eyes and set that as my preferred method for the future. Here is what I saw after cleaning up the clutter and reorganizing the prompts into the report-which I titled as a “Administrator Report Summary” for convenience:

Administrator Report Summary

{Event Summary: System Cataclysm}

Initialized on [Earth - Sol 3] during the date of [June 1st, 2018] at [1500 hours] due to an asteroid impacting the planet in the region designated [Area 51], the event dubbed “System Cataclysm” integrated the planet’s remaining inhabitants with a usable Tier 1 [System Interface] and activated the planetary ley lines which resulted in ambient energy generation. For the first two weeks [June 1 to June 15], all planetary governments and society were disrupted on a fundamental level-creating power blackouts and randomized monster spawns within the cities while only capital settlements were designated safe zones.

Prior to the event initializing, roughly two point five million of the seven billion [Human] population were uploaded into a digital matrix released by Reality Interactive titled “Cruxborne Legends” and could not be integrated into the System. Many of the remaining population-though not all of the humans-were converted into new races based on psychological profiling, soul examination, and living experience.

Currently, this event has been noted to occur at least five times this Cycle.

Five different iterations of the same event and same number of times these three have played a major part of it that I’ve noted. It became crystal clear to me that they are the people I need to look out for in this new iteration of the “System Cataclysm” since their power might be just what may be needed to form new legends, but I needed to choose my actions carefully going forward. Every choice I make from this point on will have a cosmic level impact which could spell disaster if the wrong choice is made. After all, I will need those three together and willing to move on from Earth.

“System, initialize the teleportation destination to Earth in the temporal coordinates of July 2018 in the Pacific Northwest region. Also inform Xaradel of my destination if possible,” I commanded in a clear tone into the aether.

My only response was a System prompt.
