Grogg, a creature of unimaginable nightmares, had a reputation. Or rather, he used to. Long ago, he was feared by adventurers far and wide—a hulking monster who could crush skulls and rip armor apart like paper. But lately, Grogg had a problem.

He couldn’t stay awake.

Adventurers stumbled into his lair, ready for battle, only to find Grogg snoring in the corner, his deadly limbs lying useless beside him. They'd poke him a bit, and if he didn't wake up, they'd just leave. It was embarrassing. His once-feared cave had become more of a tourist attraction than a death trap.

But everything changed one fateful evening when an adventuring party, wide-eyed and jittery, charged into his cave. Grogg awoke just long enough to realize they had a problem. The group talked way too fast, twitching, and swinging their swords wildly, blabbering about heroic deeds. Disgusting.

With a mighty yawn, Grogg lifted his tentacles, took a swing—and missed. He stumbled, half-asleep, stepping on the nearest adventurer. Opps, oh well, easy food. Grogg threw the body into his jowls. Crunch.

ZING!

Grogg’s many eyes widened as the rush hit him. He felt unstoppable, invincible. Like he could fight ten armies, then climb a mountain before breakfast.

His eyelids didn’t droop. His body didn’t slump. Instead, Grogg felt... awake. More than awake, actually. His heart raced, his muscles twitched, and for the first time in centuries, Grogg felt truly alive.

“What... what is this feeling!?” he shouted, looking down at the remaining adventurers. With this new power coursing through him, he made quick work gathering and devouring them. Though he left one behind, clutched securely in his tentacle.

“You! Human! What delectable power surges through you so?” The man trembled, but dutifully replied, “Tis an energy elixir, Great One.”

“ENERGY! Yes! I feel its power! Do you have more of this elixir?”

“Aye, though just this one.” He pulled out a bottle with a lightning bolt symbol on it.

“Excellent! Give it to me!” Grogg opened his mouth. The human tossed it in. Grogg chewed and swallowed. The elixir’s magic flared out from his gut and lit up his limbs. They undulated and bulged with power.

Grogg roared in elation.

“Human! You shall now be my minion and as such, will supply your new master with energy elixirs.” Grogg gently set his new minion down. “Now go forth and acquire all you can for soon we bath in our enemies’ blood.” The new minion scrambled out of the cave.

Grogg rubbed his tentacles together in a maniacal manner, breaking out into evil cackles.
