Letters to a child I never knew
4th Letter: my home is my prison

4th Letter: my home is my prison

To my child,

she was here today.

She agreed to collect my letters and give them to you once you're old enough to take the tests. She said keeping me in the servants' backyard was as much for my protection as it was for her peace of mind, but I know she doesn't like me. It's not unreasonable to dislike the person your husband ordered into bed, but it is still not fair that she dislikes me. I don't even remember it because of that medical soup the physician gave me. It's not like I had much of a choice either - that's just how the world works.

Your father doesn't care what happens to me. If you ever have to choose - she is much nicer than your father.

When I'm all healed up the guard will give me an excercise that's supposed to be a good foundation. I'm not quite sure what they mean by that, but I guess I'll understand soon.

In love,

your mother
