(c'mon author, didn't we already give the readers a history lesson?)
{Yeah but that was just a summary, this will go into a bit more detail}
(Fine)
I ignored both the author and Jun, and then turned back to Michael; who finally sorted out the notes from his phone.
"Alright class, we'll do a quick roll call and then start the lesson" Michael said and started calling the names. The role call lasted for a couple of minutes before he started the lesson.
"Since we have a new student today, why not do a recap?" Michael said, looking directly at me. The students didn't reply to his question but he decided to go ahead anyway, Bringing up some images on the board.
"In the year 2099, humans lived normally. They never believed in the gods, except for a few, believing the gods to be no more than myths. Stories created by humans themselves" He took a pause, I could see that the other students already heard this before so they were mostly doing whatever they wanted.
By the looks of it, Michael didn't mind as he just continued the lesson.
"That was until the first blessed appeared" On the digital board showed an image of a beautiful woman with white hair and blue eyes.
"She was blessed by the Greek god-king Zeus, granting her control over lightning and the weather"
"A couple of years after, more and more humans showed up with the power of various gods." He continued.
"Many speculated the reason why the gods might have granted humans their blessings but none landed on the right answer yet"
"The sudden increase in amount of blessed caused the mana concentration on earth to increase, which inturn caused the world to forcefully 'evolve'" he said, sliding to an image of a portal (I knew what it was because I've seen it on the news before) on the board.
"Portals started appearing and at first humans believed it was from the gods but they were proved wrong when beasts started exiting the portals within a few days of them appearing".
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
"These beasts caused the death of almost half of the human population at that time and more gods started actively giving humans blessings in order to give them a fighting chance"
"A few centuries, today, ever human is born with a blessing from one of the gods. Today you, future heroes, are responsible for entering portalsand making sure the amount of monsters in there is kept at a limit so a dungeon break does not occur" Michael wrapped up which left me confused.
'keeping the number of monsters at a minimum? I thought heroes completely cleared the dungeons ' I thought and I raised my hand to ask.
"Yes Alex, what's your question?" Michael asked me, still keeping his smile on.
"Why don't heroes clear the portals?" I asked causing some of the students to snicker but I didn't mind. (I guess that was supposed to be general knowledge?)
"That would have been the ideal course of action but you see Alex, monsters are not the only things you can find in those portals" he replied to my question.
"Various valuable crystals, called mana stones, can be found in those portals and many countries have come to rely on those mana stones to boost their economy".
"As for weaker portals that do not have those crystals, they are perfect for training young upcoming heroes. We call those portals controlled portals because we've already made sure it's relatively safe and does not pose more than a certain level of threat to the young heros" he concluded.
'I see, so the portals either become cash mines or training grounds' I thought but was brought out of my thoughts by Michael's announcement.
"Speaking of controlled portals, you guys will have your first portal test tomorrow. Pick out your team and report back to me" he said surprising me.
(What the hell author? I just got here and we're having a test already?)
{Yep, who told you to awaken so late}
(But you're the one who wrote it like that)
{I guess. You'll be fine, I think?}
(That doesn't make me feel better)
"Umm, am I allowed to skip this test?" I asked Michael feeling hopeful.
"Unfortunately not Alex. Each team should have no more than five members" he answered with a smile.
( This guy's smile is getting annoying)
{Nah you're just jealous}
(Of what??)
{His looks}
(F*ck you)
{I've heard that one over a thousand times}
"Hey Alex, wanna team up with us?" Mia came from behind me interrupting my banter with the author.
"Sur-" before I could reply Huo Jun by my side spoke up.
"I'm sorry but my side kick will be in my team, someone has to carry my beloved staff" he answered.
"No I don't" I turned to him, feeling my brows twitch.
"You're Huo Jun right? You can also join us if you want" Mia said not minding our interaction.
"Of course you'll want the great sage in you team, I accept your offer and I shall protect my new underling that way" Jun replied feeling proud of himself (?)
"Great, we just need one more member" Mia said, moving back to pull Blaze from his seat and bring him towards us.
"U-um excuse me" someone spoke from behind me in almost a whisper.
I turned around to see a girl, no taller than 5'6 standing there. She had purple eyes and hair, coupled with her small face, she's what you would describe as cute.
"Yes ?" I replied.
"D-do you guys mind if I joined your team?" She whispered again.
"Sure and with that our team's complete" before I could reply Mia, who had already arrived with Blaze, replied.
"Thank you, my name is Amara, blessed by Michael the angel of destruction. It's nice to meet you" she introduced herself, still whispering.
"I'm Mia, blessed by Poseidon. Nice to meet you too" Mia replied in her bubbly tone.
"I'm Blaze blessed by Prometheus. I'm also her fiancee" Blaze said pointing towards Mia (does this dude need to grab any opportunity to flaunt his relationship with Mia?)
"I'm Alex, Blessed by thanatos" I said smiling towards her.
"I'm Huo Jun, blessed by the great sage equal of heaven. You should feel honored standing in front of this handsome one" Jun as dramatic as ever, introduced himself.
With that, we had completed our team for the test and reported to Michael, who gave us the rest of the day off to familiarize with one another and maybe plan a bit.
"Let's go grab something from the cafeteria first?" Mia suggested to which we all agreed.
