Chapter Twenty One: Unshackled

Chapter Twenty One: Unshackled

“Kyra, we need to start working on how easily you’re angered. We can’t keep fighting every time you’re insulted.” Gabriel spoke as he sent waves of water at the guards and pushed them back. He then froze the water and kept them in place. This was far better than slaughtering them.

Kyra, on the other hand, slaughtered her way back to Daiyan, who stood upon the platform petrified.

“I’ll control my anger when I want!” She yelled back. She turned her attention away from the prince and looked at the mayor. “Do you think getting under my skin was a good idea?!” She screamed.

“Technically, I was talking to the disguise you gave yourself, not you,” Daiyan answered, stuttering as he did.

P “Same shit!” She threw back. The young girl pointed her sword at him. “Get ready to die,” she stated.

“Men!!” Daiyan exclaimed, and then he ran off the platform just as the three runaway slave catchers came. Their individual tiger lizards climbed aboard the platform and encircled around Kyra, and just as she was about to engage in combat, she dropped to her knees.

This all hit her like a ton of bricks, and her body could barely move. She had overworked herself, and the lack of sleep she had been getting wasn’t great in the slightest.

Her body finally hit the ground, and her eyes slowly closed. The approaching slave catchers were the last thing she saw before her world turned dark.

Gabriel, witnessing this, ran towards her, making sure to blast the oncoming guards towards the manor far in the distance.

He jumped up, flipped over one of the tiger lizards, and landed on the platform. By this point, both the slaves and buyers had run off.

Gabriel placed his hands before him and looked at each slave catcher. Their warrior-like armour had x markings on the front in red and white skulls on each shoulder pad.

Their terrifying appearance was no deterrent for Gabriel; in fact, it pushed him to wipe them out (not kill them). The golden-haired prince looked at the unconscious girl with surprise. However, upon further looking at Kyra, he noticed the dark circles under her eyes and the thin sheet of cold sweat covering her forehead. She looked worse than he’d ever seen her.

The constant killing and being on guard were finally taking a toll on her body, or at least that’s what he thought. His attention was quickly brought back to the slave catchers when a fireball was sent his way.

He waved his arm up and created a wall of water, freezing it. Some balls bounced off the wall, and others melted the ice and passed through. Gabriel, however, was quick enough to create a spiral of wind and blow them away. The tiger lizards simultaneously roared, pushing Gabriel in all directions.

'God, their breath stank.’ Gabriel thought. He then grabbed his sword and proceeded to run towards one of the tiger lizards. The prince then sank his golden blade into the creature’s neck and sliced all the way through.

The slave catcher upon the animal was flung off as the animal flailed around, crashing into the other creatures and effectively knocking them out as well as their riders. Gabriel smiled and began his barrage of water attacks before freezing them all in place. He was done.

Daiyan, watching this, began running towards the town’s entrance and tried to escape. However, an angered Cilia stood before him. Her usually bright eyes were dull and sharp, and she glared at the pale man with such intense hatred. From the time he bought her to the three days she was treated like shit, she was finally going to enact her sweet revenge.

Thanks to Gabriel’s large-scale water attacks, Cilia was alerted and promptly came down. Among the runaway slaves, Dino, Olian, and Kayla were spotted by her, and she made them wait for her deep within the forest.

“You’re the slave that ran away. You stupid bitch. Do you know how much I had to pay your mother for you? I practically scrubbed that worthless bitch’s debt clean. I should have beat you into submission from the first fucking day.” Daiyan seethed.

Cilia shrugged and ran forward. She swirled her hand around her body, and several green insignias appeared around her. Then a group of vines poured out of the insignias, and she moved her hand towards Daiyan. The man began screaming and scrambled to run away.

However, Cilia was far too quick. The vines were tied around each limb, and the satisfactory cracking of each limb was soothing. If this were any other scenario, Cilia would have been sickened that she even used this attack in such a way. But Daiyan didn’t deserve her sympathy. She swiped her arm to the left, dispelled the spell, and stood over his body. Daiyan lay on the ground with broken bones, his pupils moving around rapidly.

“Pathetic.” Cilia commented.

“Hey!!” Gabriel called out, waving at the blonde girl with an unconscious Kyra on his back. Cilia grinned and ran up to the two. Her smile, however, dropped upon looking at Kyra’s terrible state.

“What happened?” She asked, walking around Gabriel and examining the young warrior. Kyra did look horrendous.

“The exhaustion of her escapades has finally caught up to her.” Gabriel stated. Cilia didn’t understand what the prince was talking about, but she instructed the man to lay the girl on the ground.

“I can only bring up her health points. If rest and hunger are involved, she’ll have to fix that when she wakes up.” Cilia spoke, and for the nth time, Gabriel saw the independent girl Cilia truly was. Her mother was a fool for not paying attention to her.

The blue-eyed girl placed her hand over Kyra’s chest and began healing her. Her palms glowed green. The glow began encompassing Kyra’s body.

"So, how old are you?” The prince asked.

“Fifteen,” Cilia replied, focusing her hands on different parts of Kyra’s body.

“Ah, one year younger than Kyra and two years younger than me.” He state.

Cilia laughed.

“With how rough Kyra is, I would have thought she was at least twenty-three.” She joked. Gabriel laughed as well, and their attention was back on Kyra.

“How did you learn to fight?” Gabriel then asked.

“I used to consume a lot of action fantasy novels and always thought heroes and heroines were so cool. I wanted to be like them, so I bought a magic book and began practicing. My mother caught me once and began chastising me. Didn’t deter me though.” She laughed out loud.

“So what do you plan to do when Kyra’s healed?” She asked.

Gabriel shrugged.

“Wherever the wind takes us, Kyra once mentioned that she wanted her name in the history book, although she did say it in her sleep.” Gabriel rambled. Cilia nodded.

“Well, me and the other three are going to try and make a life for ourselves.”

“I’ll send a request to my father, and you can work in the palace. All four of you.” Gabriel said. Cilia stopped what she was doing and looked at the lilac-eyed prince, surprised.

“You would really do that for us.” She gasped.

“Uh huh. Take it as a reward for helping Kyra heal.” He stated. Tears pricked Cilia’s eyes, but she held it together.

“Thank you. Truly thank you.”
