Chapter Fourteen: Freedom

The dream was serene, mouthwatering, and peaceful. Kyra ran across the meadows, her skin by the rays of sunset, as her mouth was stuffed with powdered dough puffs. This was life. The swordsman giggled in her sleep before smacking her lips in absolute bliss.

The young girl then felt sharp steel on her neck, eliciting another giggle from her mouth.

“Hehe, that tickles.” She murmured. The sharp feeling intensified until it was no longer fun but painful.

She cracked her eyes open, and audible gasps of surprise left her mouth. Multiple men stood over her bed with the blade out and pointed at her.

It was the middle of the day, and when she looked to her right, the prince had been long gone.

“What the-?” She remarked before she was forcefully dragged out of bed and the room. “Is anyone going to tell me what I did this fine morning?” She asked, looking up at the men. Her bare legs dragged across the carpet, slightly burning them, but she didn’t mind.

“If this is about sharing a room with the prince, I promise that no extracurricular activities took place.” She added, letting out a nervous laugh.

She was met with nothing but silence. The group reached the throne room, and the young girl was immediately thrown inside. Kyra tumbled and rolled before she stopped just under the king’s throne. Once she positioned herself properly, she looked around, and the colour on her face drained.

"Well, little sister, we meet again.” Luther’s voice reached her. She bent her head backwards and saw her brother standing next to the door, with Klaus standing next to him, happy as all hell.

“Kyra von Stein, your brother comes to me with troubling accusations.” The king spoke, coughing at the end of his sentence.

“Aah yeah.” Kyra backflipped and landed on her feet. She wasn’t going to sit here and allow the king and her brother to get her; she began sprinting at lightning speed, not wanting to wait around for her punishment or even argue her ‘innocence’.

She zoomed down the halls, halted, entered the prince's room, took as much money as she could find, and zoomed straight out.

“Halt your movements, von Stein!” One of the guards screamed out. Kyra looked back and noticed the magic staves pointed at her.

“Not a chance in hell!” She screamed back, sticking out her tongue.

‘Open inventory.’ She ordered. The hologram appeared before her, and the young girl clicked the outfit she had stored from the training session. The grey tunic, black trousers, and black boots appeared on her being.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

A water blast and a fire blast came towards her as the guards gained on her. She could sense her brother and Klaus in the mix. Thank God the prince wasn’t here to see this mess.

As she continued her running, Isaac came out of the corner before her and brought her to a stop. Kyra remembered the words uttered by the prince the night before and summoned her sword from the inventory.

A pair of chains slipped from his sleeves, and he too readied himself.

“The prince spoke about how you were such a king’s slut.” Kyra laughed out loud, and the crimson-haired male frowned before sprinting forward. The two began striking each other, steel vs. steel.

Isaac threw and retracted the flames like an expert. Kyra managed to see the blade attached to the chains and snarled. The young girl sprinted forward just as the chains came towards her.

She moved the side, and everything moved in slow motion as the blade attached to the chain cut her cheek.

The young girl ignored the sting on her cheek and moved forward, swinging her sword around. She successfully cut the butler across his chest, and when he stumbled backwards, she slashed at both his arms, rendering them useless.

She moved past the bloodied butler and towards the door at the end of the hall. The exit to the palace was a long way away from where she was. Maybe this door would lead her to another exit.

“Sir Isaac!” One of the guards called out as they encircled around him.

“Don’t let her escape.”

“You don’t have to tell me that.” Luther spoke, moving past both the men and towards Kyra.

The girl looked back and finally made up her mind. If she was going to stop being chased for good, she was going to need to kill her brother and his men once and for all.

Kyra stopped in her tracks and turned around. She readied her sword, furrowed her eyebrows, and took a deep breath. Her expression then went black. Every movement was readable. From the dust that scraped the wall to the steps each man in the room took,.

Luther knew what was coming, and he cockily ran forward. He was going to show her who the man of the von Stein house was, once and for all.

Kyra took a calculated step forward and moved her sword upward with enough force. A gust of sharp wind blew upward, knocking the sword out of Luther’s hand. She then moved her sword further upwards.

Luther could tell.

Kyra could tell.

The men standing around in the halls could tell.

This was it. Her blade connected with the skin of his neck, and he received the same treatment his father did.

Kyra didn’t stop with him, however. She zoomed forward, slashing and slicing everyone in her path. Klaus, seeing this, decided to leave and run off. He knew it wasn’t manly. However, he wasn’t going to lose his life over a mission he had no passion for.

Kyra witnessed this and allowed him to leave. The blood-soaked halls were a sight to behold.

{33000XP Collected}

That was half the XP payment she was going to receive, and she had a sack filled with gold coins. She could live with that.

Kyra turned back and ran towards the brown door. She opened it and ran into the dark room, dimly lit by the fire lamps attached to the walls.

The dungeon. The emerald-eyed girl continued her way down the swirling steps and landed in a small puddle at the end of the steps. She continued running, occasionally taking glances at the prisoners tied up behind the caged rooms.

She then turned right and almost tripped when the sight of Gabriel sitting in a caged room caught her attention. The young prince, alerted by the noise, lifted his head. His smile then frowned, a look of confusion coating his face.

“I’m being chased. I stole gold from your room, and I am now leaving the palace. Do you happen to know of an exit?” She asked. Gabriel didn’t answer her message.

Instead, he got up and grabbed her shoulder, throwing her down.

“What’s going on?” He asked. Behind the caged doors, Catherine sat there and watched in amusement.

"Look, before I came here, I had killed my father. That caused my brother to hunt me all the way here. He’s told the king what I’ve done, and now I need to leave.” She explained.

“Where’s your brother now?” He asked, trying to mask the disgust that was slowly creeping on his face.

Kyra removed his arms from her shoulder and replied.

“Dead.”

“A woman who knows how to deal with business. I like it. The exit is around the corner, and it'll take you to the outer walls of the kingdom.” Catherine commented.

“Big sis!” Gabriel yelled, disappointment coating his words.

“I need to go, Gabriel.” Kyra brushed past him.

He grabbed her wrist and held her in place. Kyra looked back at him with a look of exasperation.

“I’m coming with you.”

“And have your crazy father hunt me down. No thanks.” Kyra retaliated.

She finally reached the exit and waltzed out of it.

Sweet, sweet freedom. At long last,.
