21. Onward!

I didn't tell anyone about my last notification, mostly because I didn't want to be the center of attention with another thing that no one else got. So we rested a bit and got back into formation (I scouted, then Bjorn, Marcus, Lily, Scria) and continued the dungeon. It took us a little while to decide which way to go, but eventually we chose the path next to the channel. It wasn't too wet, and it just seemed to be different than the two pathways on the sid of the room, one of which we came through. We also decided to go downriver, because it made sense that if we were fighting rats they would probably be down river and not up. At least, Marcus made an argument that no one disagreed with, so we went with the flow.

We travelled for an unusually long time without seeing any other monsters. All I saw was the endless flow of water (and other stuff), and the path that I followed. There were no doors, no other pathways, no monsters, no traps, no loot, nothing. It was the most boring dungeon ever. I even went back to the party a few times just to make sure they were still there.

After about an hour of walking I started to hear the others talking quietly. The sound echoed through the tunnel, and yet nothing happened. No ambush, nothing. It was almost like someone else had already gone through the dungeon and cleared it, and the others were starting to relax, and joke around. It made me feel a little left out, able to hear their voices, but not able to understand what they were saying.

After another hour had passed they had relaxed so much that I could hear laughter, and cheers coming from behind me. I still couldn't hear exactly what they were saying, but occasionally a single word would make its way to me. I was starting to get annoyed. Here I was, working hard, sneaking through a sewer, and they were just enjoying themselves. I started moving faster, just trying to get a bit farther away from them. It wasn't too hard, between jogging, and Shadow Jump I got far enough away that I could barely hear them in a couple of minutes. I would have gone farther, but I was a little worried that there might be something here.

A few hours later, and I was only continuing because I had already come this far, I wasn't about to quit now. I also wasn't giving anyone else a choice, because they were still far enough away that even if they yelled my name, I wouldn't understand them. I did hear them enough that I knew I wasn't alone, so I was pretty sure I'd have backup if something happened.

Then, something happened.

I was surrounded by light, then I was in complete darkness. It was so dark I couldn't see. Or there was nothing to see in the first place. I also couldn't hear anything, and I was pretty sure I was screaming. I don't know how long I stayed there, in that dark space, but eventually I started falling. With the falling feeling, I also started to hear my scream, and I started to see little lights in the distance.

I stopped screaming, and tried to figure out how to use my wings. I struggled a little to get my wings out of my dress, and at first I only got one out, which made me spin, really fast. I almost felt sick, but I was able to ignore that feeling and get the other one out. It took me a moment to stop my spin, but eventually I got myself into a glide. It was really more of a fall, but I was kind of in control. I was really hoping I could slow down enough that I wouldn't hurt myself when I hit the ground.

As I kept falling I saw a city in the distance. It was too dark to recognize it, and I had only seen one city from a completely different perspective, but I tried to aim for it. I could tell I wouldn't make it, but I was able to direct myself in that direction.

By the time I could start to make out individual trees on the ground, I realized I had been teleported a long way up. I had plenty of time to calm down, kind of control my fall, and aim for a city. I actually started to feel a little sad, that I would be stuck on the ground again. I actually enjoyed the feeling of being in the air, even if I was falling. I decided that I was going to figure out how to fly, whether by magic or by my wings, and that's when I remmebered I had magic.

Shadow Step

I didn't teleport too far, I just flipped myself around. I was expecting to start going up from my momentum, but instead I lost all of my momentum then started to fall again. When I realized that I just started laughing. All I had to do was get close to the ground, and I would be completely safe. I could fall from any height, and as long as I had mana, I would never die.

After that I just calmly waited till I was in range to Shadow Step to the ground, and through the power of magic I survived a fall that should have killed me, or at least broken a leg or two. Once I was on the ground I lay there for a while. Then I remembered that there were other people behind me, and if I had stepped into a trap there was a good chance they did too. I started searching the sky, but I didn't see anyone, or hear any screams. In fact I didn't hear the normal sounds you'd expect to hear in a forest.

It was dead quiet.
