11. Show Business

I stayed up on the roof for a little while longer. Mostly waiting for the crowds to go away so I could get down without being noticed. It didn't take too long, as soon as the golden chariot guy finished talking he got back on his chariot and left with all the soldiers. Once he left most of the normal looking people (the ones without weapons and armor) left, and the adventurous looking people went to the adventurer's guild. Oh, and Marcus hopped up on the stage and started doing a magic show.

He was doing pretty good with flashy illusions and magical sound effects, until some other mages started messing with him. At first I didn't notice, but sometimes his illusions would just stop, or disappear. Like when he pulled a bunny out of a hat, and all he got was the ears, or when he tried to make someone disappear and they just changed to a bright neon yellow color. As he got more frustrated I realized something was going on, and that's when I saw three guys in blue mage robes laughing and pointing just before something went wrong.

I wanted to help him, but they were out of range of pretty much everything I could do, so when I heard everyone around Marcus laughing I tried to get his attention. I jumped and waved my arms, but he just didn't seem to notice me, so I used a spell. I cast darkness over my head. He didn't seem to notice, in fact, he was just standing on the stage while his audience laughed.

Alert!

Marcus sent you a message:

Are you free?

Respond Y/N?

'Um, yes respond, and yes I'm free'

Alert!

Message sent

Once he recieved the message he held up his hands to quiet the audience.

When they finally quieted down he spoke in a booming voice, "Ladies and gentlemen, you must think that I am merely a shabby magician if I cannot even do some simple magic tricks without such obvious failures, but those tricks are not my closing act. What I am about to show you is far more than anything you have ever seen before. Indeed, it is a greater trick than I have ever performed before, and I warn you that it is not something that anyone should interfere with. When I start I will need to concentrate completely or I could lose control. So, if you are ready to see the greatest magic trick ever performed. Silence."

There was an unnatural silence, caused by his casting of a spell. When he cast silence the three blue robe group looked a little surprised. Then he started channeling power into his hands. As he did shadow started to swirl around the stage. The shadow started to get thicker and climb into the shape of an upright box, almost like a phone booth. Once the box was complete the energy in his hands started to burn, and he channelled it into the darkness. As the fire entered the shadow fiery cracks started, until the box looked like it was about ready to break.

You have been summoned by your servant Marcus

Accept Y/N?

I smiled as I realized what he was doing, and accepted. It felt kind of weird to get teleported into the middle of the shadow box. One moment I was on the rooftop, and the next I was surrounded by shadow and fire and silence. Then the box broke, and I remembered that I didn't like being the center of attention. And I was most definetly the center of attention. Everyone in the entire plaza was looking at me. Even the ones who weren't watching the show. Even the ones who just walked out of the adventurer's guild.

"Boundless Courage" Marcus whispered, and suddenly I wasn't bothered by all the attention. It wasn't like I forgot about my feelings, I just didn't feel them anymore.

The crowds stared for a moment before someone (probably one of the blue robe group) shouted "You can't do a summoning spell in silence! It has to be an illusion. She isn't real."

Feeling like I could beat my mother in a fight, I raised my hand and spoke, "Good people," I paused a moment, my voice didn't sound like my normal voice. "I can assure you that I am real. If you have any doubts I would be happy to erase them."

"There's no way a celestial would serve that loser. He's just a sham!" It was hard to tell where the voices were coming from, almost like magical interference.

I looked to the blue robe group, "Would one of you like to come up here and see how real I am? Also, I do not serve him. He is my servant."

The mages started arguing about coming up to the stage while most of the audience gasped. I also realized that there was an illusion on me that made me look like a celestial. I really wanted to look at myself, just to see what I looked like, but i was pretty sure that would look odd, so I just tried to look bored. I started to get bored because the mages didn't stop arguing.

Shadow Step

I appeared right in the middle of the mages, and they all jumped. One of them cast Force Blast, and I calmly countered with Shadow Swap. When he realized I took no damage he was stunned, and the mage on the other side of me started yelling.

"What if that had hit me? You idiot..."

The third mage, and the shouting one seemed to realize at the same time, "She's real!"

"Wonderful now that we got that out of the way" I glared at the one who tried to hit me, "would you mind explaining why you tried to attack me?"

"I, I, I thought." He ran. I tried not to laugh.

"I hope you two can explain what is wrong with your friend, I don't feel like chasing him today."

"He just panicked, he's an idiot, please forgive him." They both got on their knees like they were begging.

"I suppose, no one was hurt, but I would appreciate it if people would stop interfering with my favorite servant's show. It's rather rude." I Shadow Stepped back to the stage.

The crowd started cheering and claping even though I didn't feel like we had done that much. I just semi-threatened a few mages while pretending to be a celestial, that was summoned from shadow... I was starting to see some holes in Marcus' plan.

He whispered to me again, "I didn't have a plan to get you out, so can you handle that?"

I sighed. Shadow Step, under the stage. It was kind of nice under there. Cool, dark, somewhat quiet, and no people. Also, whatever illusion he put on me was gone, so I missed my chance to see what a celestial looks like. Of course I could always ask him later, but it wasn't that important.

It took a little while longer for him to finish his show, and for the crowd to disappear, but I kept myself occupied practicing my magic. Before I got a chance to leave I got a message.
