Next day after having breakfast at the inn, which was fried eggs. I went to tour the market next, more specifically to find a blacksmith. Raily had told me that I'd need a weapon as even as a low-rank adventurer, we'd be facing some monsters and always face wild animals.
There were a lot of weapon shops in the market, but all of them seemed too expensive, I had some money but not too much. Thus I went into a shady-looking shop, but there wasn't anyone there. But someone called from inside.
"Whoever it is come on in"
So I went in, and an old man was sitting there polishing weapons.
"What do you need kid?"
"I'd like a weapon, some heavy weapon" I chose a heavy weapon Because my skill gave me a lot of physical strength. I had tested it and I could now easily lift a stone the size of a car, which I thought was enough to go for a heavy weapon.
He heard me and put the sword down, gave me a handshake. Tried to crush my hand and smiled.
"Ah, looks like you'll be able to handle a great sword," he said laughing.
He went ahead and got a dozen or so great swords. I had no idea which I should pick so I just asked him.
"How do I pick a weapon?"
"Oh! First time buying huh, well you just pick it up and try a few swings if it fits you, it fits you. Nothing complicated."
I thought it was complicated but I just went with whatever he said.
I chose the sword which came at my eye level and was quite big as well. I was now 6ft or probably more. The sword was heavy but with my strength, I didn't feel much. It cost me 40 silver though.
It was still early in the morning so I thought to gather information, the best way for it would be to find a library. After asking around a bit I found a library. There was a registration fee of 5 silver and an entry fee of 2 bronze. After paying I went in and read books till early afternoon.
The books had thin paper, still rough and everything was handwritten and then magically copied.
Here's the information I found
1. Everyone has status.
2. There's another tab called stats which only can be seen with appraisal-type skills or with a stone that does the same thing.
3. Some skills also have levels. Some skills have stages. Such as Enhanced Physical Strength has stages those are
i). Slight
ii). Low
iii). Intermediate
iv). High
v). Extreme
And I even found their actual effects such as with Slight your strength stat is increased by 20%, with Low it's 50%, with intermediate it's 100%, with high it's 200% and with extreme, it's 500%.
4. The 10 stats are Attack, Defence, Strength, Endurance, Intelligence, HP, MP, Luck, Charm, and Dexterity.
5. When you register at a job guild you'll get that job, you can have more than one job and for any job, you need to register with a guild. Unless you want to do it the illegal way.
6. Classes are automatic and you'll get a class at level 5 and you can upgrade class when you reach levels 50 and 80.
7. Monsters give experience based on their race and level, you can also get experience if you do your job or do class-related activities.
8. The country I'm in is Makkara and the city I'm in is one of the best cities in this kingdom. Makkara is a small kingdom with most of it covered in forest.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
9. To the northeast of the city is another forest called Forest of Sara named after the wife of the first noble who ruled this city. This is the forest where most adventurers go to complete quests.
10. There's a plain on the southeast side where low-level adventurers go to.
With this much information, I was set to become an adventurer. I soon reached the guild, it was mostly empty. Also, there was no bar here as shown in most light novels. It was more like an office. I went to a counter with a beautiful lady.
"Welcome to the adventurer guild, I'm Nore, how may I help you?"
"Hi, I'm Ishant and I'd like to register as an adventurer."
She took out a form and said "please fill it out and come back to me with an ID"
Apparently, the trope of guild receptionist instantly falling for the protagonist wasn't gonna work here, or I'm probably not a protagonist. She seemed like I was just bothering her or something.
So I went out and filled out the form it was nothing much but things like age, previous jobs, class, and what role I play in a party all that stuff.
I went back to her with the ID and the form and she just looked at me with disgust after reading the form.
"You don't even have a class yet?"
So that was probably the reason...
"No, I haven't reached the level yet"
She muttered under her breath "country bumpkin" and put the ID on some plate after that she gave me a black coin and said to put my hand on this crystal that she bought from the back. After I did that she murmured a spell and I received a notification in my mind.
{Job acquired: Adventurer}
{Activating Job: Adventurer}
{Job (Adventurer) Details :
Rank: H
Monsters Subjugated = 0
Quest(s) completed = 0 }
She said it was done and now I can get quests and stuff.
Now in my Job section, there was Adventurer and Job skills have turned to
Job Skills
[Monster Subjugation Counter][Quest Board][Quest Progression Board]
The Quest Board skill will only work when I touch a plate at the counter and with that I can see quests that I can take. The receptionist went on to inform me in a monologue. "You can only get quests one rank below or above yours and if you do not accept a Quest at the same rank as yours for one year, you'll lose your job. "
I did not accept any quests and waited for Raily. After about half an hour she came in with another girl.
"Hi, you didn't wait too much did you?"
She asked
"Nah, I just finished with registration"
"Oh, you are already done with it, good. Then let's register as a party. Oh let me introduce our party leader"
She pointed at another girl.
While Raily was a little short, had a small sword with her. And today she was not wearing a cap that hid her hair so she clearly looked like a girl. As for the other girl, she was quite tall for a girl, had sharp eyes and axe at her back. Looked like it'd be a full party of vanguard. Raily had told me yesterday that they only had 2 members until now and we're looking for more as it's ideal for a party to be 4-6 members.
"Hi I'm Elicisa, you can call me Elce, my class is Axe-Wielder and I'm G-Rank Adventurer so I can create and manage a party."
I also introduced myself and said that I don't have a class yet and their gaze didn't change much. After a short talk, I found that only a G Ranked or above can create a party. Also, Raily doesn't have a class either and she just became an adventure yesterday night. Now I understood how she knew that staff would become frustrated if you register during busy hours.
Elce went on to accept a quest, a party can accept a quest of the average rank of the party.
When she accepted the quest at the counter we received a notification.
{Party ((unnamed)) accepted the quest:
Subjugated 20 Slimes(Normal) }
It was an always-available quest as Slimes will evolve into Acid or Red slime and become a threat if they're not killed. Elce told us both. As it was a short newbie quest we didn't need to prepare anything except a water bottle as we had just had lunch after forming the party.
We soon took off to the plains, there was knee-length grass here and we had to find slimes. Normal Slimes are transparent but slightly blue. After about half an hour we found two Slimes.
"Hit them with the flat side of your sword, Slimes will just join again if you cut it"
So that's what I did and I got a notification instantly.
{Killed a Level 2 Slime(Normal): 200Exp (20Exp × 10) acquired. }
Raily had killed the other one. Soon we found 3 more and I killed another one.
{Killed a Level 3 Slime(Normal): 300Exp (30Exp × 10) acquired. }
{Level Up}
I was now Level 2, so I asked Elce how much experience is needed for Level up she said "Oh, you just multiply the level by itself and add two zeroes at the back. That much"
So it was something like a Level square multiplied by 100. With that, I should be Level 3 if I get 800Exp more.
We hunted Slimes close to sunset and had completed the quest.
{Job (Adventurer) Quest completed: 500Exp (50Exp × 10) acquired}
{Level Up}
I just reached Level 4, since we were in a party I only got 50Exp for the quest but if I were in an even bigger party I'd get even less so it was okay.
As we were getting back to the city something hit me on the back of my head really hard. And I fainted.
